Well, it has been about 3 days now since my car was stolen. I don't know why I waited 'til now to post about it, but whatever.

Anyhow, about four nights ago I parked my car at my apartment in Redding, CA. I was pretty much just staying there for the night, as I havn't finished moving all my things yet. Well, I got up the next day, hung around the apartment with my girlfriend and roommates, etc etc. I didn't go outside to drive my car until about 3 in the afternoon, and there wasn't a direct line of sight to my car from the apartment and where I chose to park. Well, when I went outside my roommate was parked where I had parked my car the night before, which is next to a "No Parking" area. I of course thought that there had been some kind of mistake and my car was towed, even though I parked legally. Sure enough, it hadn't been towed. So now, about four days later, there is still no sign of it. I'm pretty sure it is long gone, along with my $1200 stereo, $1100 wheels and tires, and about $1600 in store-bought CDs that insurance won't pay me for!

I tell you what, I would give anything to have caught the spineless  people doing it, cause my Winchester 1300 Defender was about ten feet away from me, loaded with 7 shells, in the closet. And those rats who jacked my car woulda had the barrel to the back of their head the whole time until the cops showed up.

Oh well, nobody is hurt, and that's the important part. Just sucks to be out so much money...

^^Ya I filed a police report about ten minutes after it happened. They say they have a 65% recovery rate, but I doubt mine will be found now that it has been a few days. Actually, I hope they don't find it because theft recovery vehicles are given salvage titles, and it'll make my car worth like $1500 - not to mention that even if they do find it, all my music stuff and wheels will be gone already anyhow. So, I figure between my stuff and the salvage title, I'm out about $6000, even if they find the darn thing. So I'd rather just get the insurance money for the car when they don't find it, and have it go towards a nicer car - if I'm gonna be out 6 large anyhow, it may as well be 6 large towards a nicer car.

sorry for that to happen to you but i have a question. Why would you keep $1600 worth of CD's in your car? It almost like bait for criminals. If they see something they like they take it.

my brother went with a friends family and went to vermont to snowmobile and ski. So they parked thier trailer(holding 2 brand new top quality snowmobiles in it) near the mountain.  they went to go visit some family or something and when they came back everything was stolen, probably the worst case of stealing ive heard of

^^Yeah I did buy it used, but how any previous owner could have found out where I am moving to, is beyond me.

Its not like they were littered about the car, I just had like 110 or so CDs in a big CD case, closed, in the backseat of my car. And its not like that's all they took, I mean the entire car was jacked man!

To everyone, yes, I filed a police report. Ya they are looking for it. I doubt they will find it. The cop said they get about 15 cars stolen a week in Redding and about 10 of 'em are Hondas.

EDIT: Glassjaw, no alarm. Oh how I wish I did, now. I live in Burney, which is a small town and most nobody even locks their car. I was planning on putting an alarm on it when I moved to Redding, but, alas, that chance will not come.

What's weird is, it was locked, windows up, and the only two keys for it were in my posession. Yet there was no broken glass or any evidence of foul play - which leads me, and the officer also, to believe that whomever stole it has a pretty good knowledge of Civics of that year, and has experience in taking them.

^^You would be hard pressed to find an insurance company that would pay for aftermarket modifications to your car, especially when they were not aware of such modifications. I have Geico, they are a good company, but I can't expect for them to pay for stuff that they didn't agree to insure.

My friend had a truck stolen that had a new sound system in it.
The insurance company payed for that too, and now he has the single coolest vehicle in town.
Of course, he probably reported the stuff to the insurance company, because they'd be fools to replace something they had no record of you having.

Also hard drives are only like 60 bucks for a 120 gig, next time, back up all your CD's digitally.

That can at least solve 1 problem.

I only keep burnt copies of cds I own in my car for exactly this reason. Our insurance covers it anyway but I'd rather not tempt people to break into my car.

Sorry to hear about your car man, last time I was in Redding it didn't seem like a place where something like this would happen.

Other than the suggestions for me to file a report, this was the smartest thing I have heard all day! Thanks Dave - next go around, I won't be out all of my music.

EDIT: Yeah Solip, it really is a pretty cool town. But I guess this kinda thing can happen anywhere.

Wow, in Redding huh, the last time I was there I got pulled over by CHP fer expired tags on my old school 88 Mistubishi mini-truck and also I was lost due to the poor directions that my passengers were giving me, well anyways....sorry fer yer loss man and have you actually checked wit the cops recently besides making that report, sometimes they get so caught on some other stuff they fail to tell the owner/s of a stolen vehicle that their vehicle could actually be in the impound yard (common problem in San Francisco), good luck man in gettin back yer g-ride.
