Q. why should i say "marker" instaid of "gun"

A. When paintball markers where envinted they where used to mark trees, cows, ect. they where very usefull if the rancher or farmer was riding a horse, because they could just shoot the tree, while on the horse. instead of getting off and on the horse. people then desided, that paintball would be a fun war type game so they shot at each other thus the term paintballing. athough in the late 1970's paintballs cost about $0.07 each, and each player would shoot over 2000 balls per game, and would play about 3 games at a time the sport was very evpensive about $420 so as more people started playing, and better technolegy came apon the cost of paintballs went down, and markers where alot better the cost went alittle down on playing also.

P.S. There is a lot more if you have any other questions about the history just ask.

Thanks, I guess. I would think in the 70s people would shoot less then 2000 balls a game. Also that the guns went up in price. "More people started playing because it was expensive" I don't see that happening. After the fourth sentance, it is all wrong.

Yea i guess back in the day they used to lane each other in the corn fields eh? cause 2000 balls a game. Maybe if they played for like 2 days straight that could sound resonable.

Well, the word envinted isn't really a word. A gun is an object that launches a projectile. A marker is an object that marks (like a Crayola MARKER?). I prefer gun because its 3 letters; desrcibes the action the gun is doing, not the goal; and because it sounds a lot less weird.

Paintball Marker sounds like a highly religious woman who can't say a word that is associated with violence.

So what was the point of this post? Here's some better history:

Tippmann manufactured replica assault weapons until 1989 (or was it '86?) when the government decided manufacturing these weapons is illegal, except for government funded manufacturers. They then nearly went bankrupt, and turned to paintball production. Tippman also invented and patented the blow-back system, which is used almost exclusively in most paintball "markers" today.
