You can, but c02 will give you hell. Nitro works great in the winter.

co2 will work ok if your tank is warm at first. but when the tank gets cold, liquid co2 can barely turn into gas, and youll have to cock it each time. if you use a remote, with a small heat source within a sealed off encloseure with the tank, it should work. but dont let it get too hot in there.

Co2 will give you troble beyond your greatest imagination in winter. However, you can do a few things to make winter play a little more worthwhile. First of all, if you want to solve the problem foreveryou can buy a HPA tank. http://www.FirstCallPaintball.com - www.FirstCallPaintball.com is having a great deal on this HPA tank. http://www.firstcallpaintball.com/detail.aspx?ID=1436 - http://www.firstcallpaintball.com/detail.aspx?ID=1436  If you buy it before sunday night you can get free shipping, or if you spend more then $200(not including paintballs) shipping is also free. If you do not have the money or do not want to buy a HPA tank you can do a few things to try and warm up the co2 so it can expand into a gas from a liquid. If you get a remote line and run it under your jack your body heat will warm the co2 through the remote and let it expand into a gas. If you do not want to by a remote you can buy a few handwarmers and duct tape them to your tank. Then you can put a sock or a winter hat around it and keep it on with a belt, rubber band, more tape, or what ever you want.

anything that will keep the tank above 40 degrees will work. under 40 degrees it can not turn into gas. but if you somehow keep the tank above that temperature (hand heat pads, or any insulation on the tank) your gun should be useable. i wouldnt put those handwarmers directly on your tank. they can heat up well over 130 degrees, which is very unsafe. get some kind of pouch for your tank in with a remote, and put the heat on the inner top of it to ensure no overheating.

just a remote alone does not mean the problem is solved. its all in the tank's inner temperature.

slap a propane tank on and go play in the woods with a cigar screaming "game on, lozers" You will never have trople with cold again

If you want to play in the winter the best advice I can give you is to keep your balls warm (always a good idea)and (if you can't afford HPA) get an expansion chamber. Cold weather is the only time an expansion chamber is any use at all.It gives the co2 more time and space to turn from liquid to gas. I've played in temperatures down to 17o F. and had very litle trouble. I use Polar Ice balls for winter play. Don't let people discourage you, playing in the snow is awesome.

No need to point out the perfectly obvious, the merely obvious will do.

A neoprene cover can help slightly, and i've seen players put socks over their tanks and put hand warmers in the socks, i've also seen people put those 9v battery heater socks on their tanks as well...

These can make a small difference depending on the outside temp, but ultimatly CO2 use in very cold temps is not going to be great... You will find that not shooting as fast, or as much is what you need to do, or else you risk freezing up your gas line and valve.

HPA or Nitro is obviously the best option in very cold temps.
