So did anyone watch the series. I know its sorta old but they have been replaying it on the History channel the last few nights. Its on right now and Im watching it. I think the way they plotted it out was amazing. It sure makes you realize how different the technology and weapons are a lot different from today. I want to get the DVD Box Set but its so expensive its like 70 dollars. Let me know what you thought about it if you watched it...

Have the DVD box set.  They were amazingly emotional, and action filled movies.

I watched the series when it was new on HBO. They are a great series. Don't wanna shell out the cash for the DVD set? Christmas is coming, hint hint. Thats how I got the set on DVD. Also, if you liked the series, consider getting the book "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose.

I've seen it numerous times, and it was kind of funny when it came out. I had done some research on the 101 prior to the release, and when it came out, I was pretty floored by just how historically accurate it was. If you want some good reading, pick up Stephen Ambrose's book by the same title.

I love Band of Brothers. Its like an extra long version of Saving Private Ryan which is one of my favorite movies.

I haven't seen many of the episodes (missed 3,4,5,7,8,9) but from what I've seen it's very good.

Saving Private Ryan was a good movie despite some of it's minor flaws. I don't care what anybody says about Windtalkers but I rented it last night and it too was very good.

Edit: can't forget about The Longest Day. Best B/W movie ever.

Windtalkers was bad. The longest day was excellent...though I can never seem to find the time to sit down and see the whole thing at once.

Another good move is "A Bridge Too Far" The sets were fantastic and the vehicles were great. When it came out in theaters, I found out that there was a guy in Europe who had gone around and collected at least one of every type of vehicle used by the Allies and the Axis. He made fiberglass molds of them and that is what they used. The vehicles, even though fiberglass replicas are historically accurate, not like "Patton". Even though it was a great movie, I find the use of using M48 Patton tanks as German Panzers kind of demeaning.

Yes, Band of Brothers is perhaps the most accurate war "film" ever created. (Film...series...whatever you want to call it)  It is a very wonderful tribute to all those who fought in perhaps the defining event of the 20th century.

Longest Day is also wonderful...the star power in that movie alone is remarkable.  Bridge Too Far is noteworthy since they actually filmed on location in Europe on the actual bridges that were part of Operation Market-Garden.  Patton is also pretty accurate when it comes to what happened...even if the vehicles used were way off. There is a scene in Patton where the General is directing traffic at a muddy crossroads and he yells at one of the tank commanders to get a move on as he is pounding on the side of the tank.  That actually happened. (The tank commander of that particular tank wrote a book detailing his experiance with 3rd Army and mentions the time he "met" Patton).

I've liked some of the new war films too...even those that aren't wholly accurate. Saving Private Ryan of course tops this list but I have also enjoyed Windtalkers (pretty darn good on the Pacific front and on a topic often talked about but never had a movie made about it), Pearl Harbor (the special effects rocked and it must be kept in mind that the story line was there just because a straight movie about the attack wouldn't be well received like Tora Tora Tora had been), and Memphis Bell (1991...not accurate at all as to the Memphis Bell's last mission but a good representation of what the air war was really like during the war...that and I'm a big B-17 nut) were all enjoyable.

Wish granted.  Coming in 2006 "The Pacific War"

A 10-part mini-series from the creators of "Band of Brothers" telling stories of America's battle with the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II.

That'll be a hell of a story. The air war in the pacific alone could fill up a 10 part miniseries.

I agree with Reb. They might consider a 20 part series. How many people remember "Victory at Sea"? It was a well-made documentary chronicling the war at sea, both Atlantic and Pacific.

Yea Reb, "The Pacific War" should be great.

Details on the internet are few and far between but here's a http://www.flagsofourfathers.net/ - link which talks about it and a Steven Spielberg/ Clint Eastwood film called "Flags of our Fathers" about the Battle of Iwo Jima also coming in 2006.

Oh man, both those projects sound great!  It's about time someone did another movie on Iwo and perhaps the most famous picture from World War II. Plus that Pacific series sounds good too.  That should be very entertaining and considering how well Band of Brothers went over I'm not surpirsed.
