I know of three items to produces backspins on paintballs. The flatline barrel of course from tippmann, the hop-up barrel from Armotech, and the karta body for the automag. What I want to know if anyone has used the karta would they please tell me how it works?  Is he Hop-up a straight barrel or curved like the flatline and how it works? If anyone has used two or more would they please tell me which one was better?

Update: And don't forget the Undertow and Cooper T bolts. So I got 5 now

Update: So it turns out the karta was a mistake its called the z body for the automag

The Deadly wind site says nothing about that body kit putting backspin on the ball.  Where did you get your info?

The Hop-Up is made by Armotech, not Ariakon, and it is a straight barrel. There are grooves on along the top of the barrel that allow air to pass creating low pressure. This causes higher pressure at the bottom of the barrel which results in the paintball hugging the top of the barrel, creating backspin. The grooves also provide just the right amount of friction to cause the backspin without sacrificing velocity.

Oh, and as of this writing, the Hop-up barrel is only available on the Warsensor line of markers - they are not yet available for individual sale.

Rifled barrels do not work as well as the Flatline.

The hop-up isn't rifled. The grooves are at 11, 12, and 1 o'clock. They run straight the length of the barrel

In my opinion, you're comparing apples and oranges:

Flatlines have a better range but, they are more sensitive to the inconsistancies in paintballs than normal or even rifled barrels (which results in inaccuracy).  If you've got a good case of paint, you're rockin with accuracy and range.  If you don't, you're not.

A Rifled Barrel (like Armsons) does not try to increase the range, they try to improve accuracy (in terms of shot to shot consistancy).  In my experience, when you get a proper paint match, there is a significant improvement over a smoothbore in terms of accuracy.  Inconsistant paint has had a minimal impact on their performance in my experience.

However, since there aren't any rifled barrels that can change their bore size to match your paint it's much harder to get that match.

That phrase also appears in the Armotech ad on page 178 of the December 04 issue of APG. The Ariakon ad that runs on pages 160-165 in the same issue does not have any mention of the settled litigation.

You can add another to your list, it's called the Undertow bolt -

Regarding Ariakon/Armotech:

There was a legal dispute between two companies over which one had the rights to use the name Armotech. As part of the settlement one had to change its name.

The one that changed was the maker of the "SIM" series. It's now called Ariakon. Look http://www.ariakon.com - here

The other Armotech retained the name and is still selling the traditional Armotech line (WG series, Zeus pistols, etc). It's also the maker of the hop-up barrel. Look http://www.armotech.us - here

Yeah I was going to mention the Undertow but I'm not sure if Imperial is still producing them.

I have an extra Evil bolt that I plan on modifying into an Undertow style bolt.

No, Ariakon took Armotechs name and renamed the guns. which is illegal, therefore they had to change their company name. They original site for Ariakon was http://www.Armotech.COM - WWW.Armotech.COM . The real armotech site is either http://www.Armotech.net - WWW.Armotech.net , or http://www.Armotech.us - WWW.Armotech.us . The .us is the distributing website for the US. where as the .net is just the informational website. My friend is an armotech fanatic. some amazing guns they have, just real expensive.

WRONG. Ariakon was part of armotech, then they made there own models under the armotech. Then they broke off. Sim-4 and the WG-65 are 2 totally different markers. Different internals and different parts. They just happen too look extremely similar when you arent looking at the design of the guns. Know what your saying before you say it.
