Hey, as everyone knows, beef jurky is really expensive, is it hard to make your own that tastes just as good?  I looked on ebay for dehydrators, and there 30-100 bucks depending on size.  Is it hard to make?  any good online guides?

quite simple to make. you need the dehydrator, and something that will squirt the beef out in strips, and some good seasoning. im sure if you buy the dehydrator it will come with some recipies.

and yes it tastes great.

I was actually not aware of the cost of beef jerky, because I've never tried it before.

We made it at school when I was in the 3rd grade. I wasnt able to help because I had just gotten stitches on my right ring finger from nearly cutting it off the day before in class. I still have the scar.

You dont need a dehydrator. We use a conventional oven and its the best beef jerky ever. Its probably takes longer with an oven but it still works. BTW unless you have good spices, its not going to taste good. Seasoning is the key to beef jerky.

dehydrators?

pffft you lose flavor

GET A SMOKER! and a bag of hickory wood chips made some beef jerky in the summer that was soo good

i made some in a dehydrator but it wasent as good.

if your short on time theres a quick cook method.

cut up your meat then boil it for 10 seconds then put it in your bag of your soy sause salt and brown sugar. in the fridge over night then smoke it or if you dehydrate add some liquid smoke

it's better when you just cut it in to strips instead of using the "meat squirter"

Many of you said that seasonings was the key, is there good stuff that you can buy?  or is it simply a mater of knowing what to mix together?

Preach it! Smokers are the way to go. Cabellas should also carry those. Smoked will taste way better, hands down.

Make it in a regular oven and follow the spicing and curing directions closely.

What we do is grind the meat up in a meat grinder and shoot strips out on a rack with a jerkey gun and toss it in the oven.  Turns out very tender.

Deer jerkey is the shizznit, I love it.  We use a dehydrator, but we use the local bait shop's "secret" spices the owner makes and sells in little bags.
