Yes you do have to be certified by an Airsmith. I would  suggest you not do this your self. And if you want to be an Airsmith you have to go to a class.

For Co2,   .20c an ounce is about the going rate.

So,  for a 20 ozer,  $4 is NOT overcharging.

$5 would be getting a bit steep,  $6 would be way overcharging, almost criminal.

You'd have to fill a lot of tanks to pay for a fill station, the tank you'd need,  and the Bulk fills.  We started doing it because we had about 8 people who pitched in to help pay...then it was cheaper that way.

Once we got started up,  then it was cheap and convenient to do our own fills.

We used 50lb. Bulk bottles,  but,  you absolutely need to know what you are doing...unless you are an adult,  forget it,  nobody is going to trust you with a 50 lb tank.

Now that I'm on HPA,  I keep a 20lb. Co2 tank around,  and the fill station to help out those on Co2.

Ok... I'm going to convince you NOT to fill your own tanks.

I work at a place that has some 50 lb CO2 canisters.  I thought it would be fun if I blasted a plastic budweiser bottle off the end.  I screwed it on tight, flipped the knob and BBBAAAAMMMM!!!!   My ears were ringing for hours.  The power litterally blew the bottle to pieces.  That was a 50 lb canister.  The filling station ones are 120lb.  Imagine the difference!!!!!  (I know size has nothing to do with pressure, only volume...)    But think!  If that 3200psi thing blows up, think frag grenade!!!!  OUCH!!!! (I learned my lesson!! It was fun though... until nmy ears hurt)

Half of us? Ok.....

Why should we be "commited"? Maybe you should wake up and realize that not everyone is an idiot like you.

Anyone with half a brain can fill their own tank. It's not rocket science, Einstein.

Though there could be an exception for you. Why don't you wait until you graduate middleschool.

You need to be an airsmith to fill tanks. Even though you may be smart enough to fill the tanks it is best to get the training.

Filling HPA tanks is much easier then CO2 tank.

I have a friend whos in 10th grade and has filled his tanks since he was a kid and hasn't had problems. You don't need to be an airsmith yu just need to know how. Where I live there is a place where you can rent co2 fill stations for $18 american a month. But there the same place that charges 5 dollars to fill a 90z

Just switch to Air and get a scuba tank and a fill station. Costs a lil upfront but in the long run you'll be saving $$$ and filing Air is much easier.

I have been filling my own HPA tanks for a few years now. I decided that it would be easier and cheaper than driving a few hours everytime I needed a fill.
I am a firefighter and we fill 4500psi Air bottles for SCBA packs all the time. I figured the only difference in those and paintball HPA tanks was the size and the fitting needed to fill it. So...with a small amount of searching I found the parts that I needed to fill my own tanks.
The most dangerous thing I have ever seen is when the so called "professionals" flash fill HPA bottles at tournaments or big games (TWC). I would much rather fill my own tanks the proper way then pay some buffoon to try and blow my tank up. Flash filling is the most dangerous thing you can do to an HPA tank. The guideline that is recommended by Scott Airpak Inc...is no faster than 500psi per minute. Except in an emergency when you can flash fill if the tank is completely enclosed in a container designed to contain the fragments if the tank should fail catastrophically (That word means explode).
I have never been in a situation that I had to fill my paintball HPA tank or I would die. That would be the only emergency that I could think of.
So if you do fill your own tanks....learn how before you try. Here is a resource to get you started.
http://www.ottersccustoms.com/filling.html - Otters Customs

And from what I have read above....I guess when Hell Survivors charged $9 for a 20 ounce CO2 fill they were over charging just a bit?

Sorry for such a long post.
