Walking through the mall today I saw a fellow decked out in military stuff.  His accessories included a camo jacket, camo pants, a camo hat,  and even dog tags.  The hat even said South Pole on it.

Is it "pimp" to impersonate our serviceman?  Do they think they are cool?  I think anyone who has enough balls to walk around in full military camo, including dog tags, should be thrown into the military.

It would not have been as bad if it wasn't for a number of things.  One of these being dog tags, this kinda pissed me off.  They are used to identify dead soldiers, and this ... imbecel(sp) ... wears them thinking they are "bling".  If he actually wore his hat right, not backwards and tilted back, but frontwards and on strait.  If his jacket was actually made of stuff the military uses, not some cheap crap.

Edit* Thinking back, I guess it all made me about equally mad.

Yea, I hardly doubt anybody would walk around in full dress with dog tags for no apparent reason. He was probbally involved with the ROTC or Reserves.

I wear dogtags every day of my life. They were my dead grandfathers. Are you going to get mad at me? If so kill yourself...

In fact, you just offended me and I don't like it.

I think wearing cloths that make you look like you are enlisted when your not is disrespecting the soldiers that protect you is disrespectfull but wearing dog tags is understandable

I think that wearing dogtags if your not in the military is dierespectful. BUT, if you are wearing a dead friend or family members tags its ok. I also think walking around in full camo and such is disrespectful. Id have shot him right there if he was wearing dress blues and wasnt enlisted. That is serious disrespect.

Ok, guys, you blew it way out of perporation(sp?).  I'm not mad, just annoyed.  Trust me, this guy has no affaliation with the services.  His crap was from a South Pole type store.  His jacket wasn't anything like what the military wears, their clothes are made of cloth, to better conceal themselves.  This guy's jacket was made out of shinny plastic looking stuff.  I have nothing against people wearing dogtags, but he tried to be cool and add that last touch of bling which was unnecissary(sp).

Jmac, your dog tags were your grandfathers, and I respect him for fighting in a war, and I respect you for wearing them out of remberance for him.  That is about the exact opposite of what he was doing.

i know a lot of people that used to be in the military, and are still serving, they get VERY offended when people do that. its suppsed to look like a uniform, a uniform used in the time of war. its something you EARN. its not a fasion statement, that sort of thing irks me too

Hmmmm.... What about when teams like the OMHW dress up in camo's and adopt tactics out of military manuals?  Or when you or others like you wear B.D.U.'s to play woods ball?  Why is this guy's transgression worse than any of you playing at being soldiers on the paintball field?

I agree with wearing full camo as casual wear is disrespectful, but I dont find the big problem in dogtags as long as you know what there for and you dont just wear them to be cool. I wear them and mine are for my paintball team. and each of us have a soldiers name who we knew who has fallen on them as a tribute. I know what there for and I have some family members tags who died. Now why dont I wear those? because i dont want them to get messed up or lost. I wear these so when people look at mine and my friends they know were out there doing something with what we can. We cant join the military and if we could we would. So instead we involve ourselves in combat simulation involving paintball. It can be disrespectful depending on the person wearing the tags. If its just some dimwit wearing them cause there "cool" and because "everyone else is" with no idea what there used for then yes, shoot them. But when you have educated people wearing them and not flashing them around as "pimpness" then it shouldnt be a problem. About the guy wearing the SouthPole Camo, he prolly either wishes he was in the military, or is joining the military, or is on a waiting list to go to boot camp.

because its not being worn as casual wear. Its being warn in a mock time of war and those people who do those things Im sure have more respect for the military than any normal civilian.

so your saying that all these guys who do reinactments, which is mock warfare might I point out, are just being casual when they get paid very little and travel the country simply out of respect and love of doing it?

No, I promise that I will say the Pledge of Allegience and 10 Hail Mary's every time I see someone who meets your criteria wearing camo's and attack anyone who wears camo's who doesn't meet your criteria.  Please let me know which soldiers of fiction are o.k. and which one's aren't so I will know.

Come on Badsmitty, this country was founded on people being able to decide what's best for other people to wear, do, say, love, kill, and everything else.

After you described his shirt as shiny and plastic...

Yeah, I hate that too. It's one thing to wear camo, it's another to wear cheap fake camo and look like somebody from the Village People.

So by me making this thread pointing out his ignorance, I am all of a sudden limiting his clothing options?  I don't think so.

It is different because when playing in the woods I wear camo to be camoflauged.... imagine that.  I don't think he was exactly trying to blend into the surrounding trees..... in the mall...

Why would he waste money on crap from the same store that has "fat albert" and other such stuff when he could get it for free from the services?

You do know what South Pole is right?
