Well it's Christmas, and with the cheer comes some ranting, some complaining, and plenty of headaches.

i know some of you are thinking some where along the lines of "well jeez thanks buddy for taking some Christmas cheer" but Im not trying to but theres a reason for this little rant. And it pertains to something to paintball.

About 2 weeks ago i decided to pay a little visit to the Local PB shop (which also happens to own a few fields here Maryland) This place in the past has been friendly to me and it was where i got my Tippmann 98 Custom last year in November. So i figured to see what they have for some ideas for my Christmas list. One of the first people i see when i walk in is 1 of the employees who helped give me some pointers on some good starting choices for paintball when I was getting really interested in the sport last year. but he was busy getting some stuff done so I let him be. However a Pollish Imigrant was there to help. Things started off fine, asking him for a few prices on things like the 98C R/ trigger and a few different items. Then i went to ask a question. The question was on any tournoments coming up. He said yea no problem. Then he ask me if Im on a team or not. My answer is of course no. Since my last attempt at forming a team kinda failed ( due to some mess ups thanks to my stupidity.) I haven't bothered since. but ive been thinking about again. He then ask me what marker I use mainly. I tell him that i use my Tippmann 98 Custom. This wasn't the first time that some thing was going to happen like this. had a simerler problem with a one heck of a bragger in my grade who just happens to also be a part time ref at the one of the fields the store owns, and the one I frequent the most. I had asked this kid if the field would let me get a part time job there so i could have some cash on hand and get some upgrades and paintballs to use. His however one of the High- end marker snobs. you know. the stuppid kid that is always like "Tippmanns are crap, Tippmanns sucks, BLAH BLAH BLAH ETC ETC." His response: "Ha, they wouldn't hire you! You own a stupid Tippmann, and you are obviously a stupid retard for buying one." (yea sure why don't I buy your stupid Spyder victor, which i know from that employee I mentioned before hand who helped me when I was just starting, with the fragile Plastic handle which makes it an imiediate extra 20 dollers for the steel pistol grip, replacement.) Well simerler response from this guy at the store.

"Oh, your going to have to get a better gun for the tournements otherwise your going to lose because you can't fire fast enough."

Hmm lets see here. limited funds+ $50 of hard earned money for 2000 rounds, which for 99% of the fields here are Field paint or their store paint only. Yea sure that makes alot of sense now, yep. Sure i can blow through 3-7 casses of 2000 rounds each all day, and still have enough money left from my lawn cutting summer job to do so. and with a marker only 1 year old and that will soon have an $85 trigger upgrade that will at least double my ROF from 5 BPS to at least 10, which i will still need to aim to HIT something within THE FEWEST AMOUNT OF PB POSSIBLE TO SAVE MONEY!!!!!!!

The best part about this though is that at these field which they own and I go to is this. about 50% - 60% of markers used at the field, are Tippmanns. 40% - 50% are Spyders which are often either Spyder Xtras, E99s, or the occasional Phenix (spelling?). the last 5% - 10 % are these " high end" ball wasters who half the time are one of the first few out, minus the ones that actully have skill, mainly something in AIMING.

Back to topic. i start thinking what to do. On one hand this guy is someone i sorta feel sorry for. Apparently when he was still in Poland he and his dad were temporarely sent to Siberia for speeking out against the Soviet Union. On the other hand, This guy is asking for an Earful for starting to make fun of my marker..

End result. I just thanked him and waited a few minutes to ask the guy i knew before hand for just a little bit of help before i left...... and made mental note to make sure to send this guy a couple of photos later on of a group of people using Tippmann markers beating all these highend marker using "Pro" players as a late Christmas present.

BTW: sorry for the long post

You can play rec ball with a m98c, but not for tourny's. Unless the other team is shootin regular pneumatic markers like yourself you don't stand a chance. If you buy a R/T the tourny won't allow you to play. With a stock m990c you will be outgunned. For him making fun of you isn't the nicest thing, but he is stating a fact. Sorry if you were looking somethin along the lines of "that guy is mean here's a cookie" but this is reality.

*sigh* ok let me put this way. its not the fact that this has been posted however many times its been posted. its focusing that 1. its showing some major disregard on saying something to a customer who knows his marker has certain limits. and 2. ya think that during the Christmas season these people would give it a break with the "stupid tippmann" part.

EDIT: to impulse: Don't care. I don't see how its fair that my marker which is still only semi auto even with R/ trigger yet because someone whos richer than me can walk on and switch his marker to burst or full auto.

I remember about 5 or so months ago me and a few other people finished playing woodsball and headed down to the speedball course where there was a tourney team in their clean pretty dye jerseys, pants, shoes, and gloves that wanted to play us so we all agreed and I went out and with my, at the time, mech a-5 and a few other people with their "low-end" guns. we rolled the tourney team with their shockers, angels, and I think 1 timmie just because all they could really do was shoot... a lot.. the four of us combined shot about as much as one of their guys and we didnt lose a single player.

Meh. I showed somebody a render I did of the Overdrive system and he goes 'A tippmann? Tippmanns suck, they're slow'. So I explained to him that an inline blowback with no sear will cycle at around 45 cps with no problems.. his next remark: 'Well it's not the gun it's the player'. I just stared at him and said 'Practice what you preach or leave me alone'.

There's a lot of SP sheep at my school... funny because our mascot is the Wolf, because "Wolves lead, sheep follow". The irony is lost to these people.

Just wait'll I get a video up of a Carbine or 98C hitting 15 bps with a mech trigger.. just wait.

As for your story (sorry I went off on a tangent there), just prove everybody wrong. Try http://www.model98.net - www.model98.net for some relatively cheap speed upgrades.. I know you said you're tight on cash but the ability to shoot fast, even if you never use it, is nice to have.

Good luck on the tourney thing and all.

If you are so shallow that you think every high-end gun is a ball waster, then you ARE a stupid noobie.  You can't say that every high-end gun just wastes balls.  If you have the MONEY to spend,  then why not shoot fast AND accurate.  If you shoot 10 balls at someone rather than shooting 1 ball,  you have 10 times better chance of hitting the person.  Some people want to shoot fast.  Just because you can't shoot fast and don't want to spend the money on paint doesn't mean you have to bash high-end guns and people that own them.  You are just as bad as that ref.  You are saying high-end guns are a waste,  just like that ref says your tippmann is a waste.  If you really act like this then I hope that ref keeps up what he is saying.  You deserve it.  You can't just bash guns that you can't afford and not expect some bashing back.

So,  do you think I should sell my 20+ bps cocker and go buy a tippmann so I can shoot slow and chop?

People like you make me mad.  If you are going to act like this,  I don't want you in the sport.
