I say Queen is the best band ever. Who do you think is?

(best band means ONE band, so dont list a bunch of your favorites, just do ONE)

Well, having 15 Queen albums, that's going to be hard to disagree with...

Best band, Queen.  Best solo artist, Bowie.

Btw, Queen plans on touring again, as they found someone to repace Freddy.

But I mean come on, you cannot replace Freddy Mrecury, it's just impossible

If it wasn't for the Rolling Stones, there would be no Zepplin.

Zepplin is, hands down, one of the most overrated bands of all time.

unfortunately that title is already bestowed on Nirvana, i am a better singer/writer/musician than anyone in that band

as for your first statement i do not totally agree because Zepp was mainly influenced by blues and folk, however the Stones do rock and were very important in rock history

Well I like Nirvana, and I think that Cobain, as a lyric writer, was brilliant. Just, about 85% of Nirvana fans suck. Cant blame the band for sucky fans. Plus its all about tastes. If you dont like grunge, then your not going to like his voice. I dont care for grunge but Im not going to say he was a bad singer. He was a good grunge singer.

Anyway.

I do think that the Stones were influanced by blues, but thats a whole nother can of worms. To say that Zepplin was "unraivaled as the best band of all time in any genre" is far to broad of a title. They were good at hard rock. The best? No I dont think so. And as far as them "teaching us how to rock", there were many many bands before Zepplin that were more important to rock, which is what I am gathering you are saying by them 'teaching us'. The Stones, as I stated before hand, were one of the first rock bands to be accepted into the public and hated by parents everywhere. (Note I am excluding The Beatles from this, they were alternitave *waits for flames of fury*)

Im not trying to say OMG JOO SUX JOO THINK ZEPPLIN ROCKS or whatever. I am very very interested in the social impact and history of music, and in looking into alot of stuff I know that music is all in your taste. Im not stepping on your taste at all, im just saying my opinion .

Hm. My opinion is that Bob Dylan is easily the best songwriter (excluding classical composers... apples/oranges, in my opinion) to walk the earth. But from the question asked, I took into account technical skill and originality as the two main factors. He was definitely in mind though.

And The Beatles were probably my next pick.

For most influential, I'd go with the Beatles, but they weren't really that talented.

For overall, Rush takes it.

Metallica. Hands down. Kirk Hammett is listed as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Cant beat that... Hetfield is not too shabby himself. For amazing guitar riffs, few bands can beat Metallica. And thats exactly why I love em.

Yeah, right, and pigs fly in Alaska.  Dave Grohl (sp? wierd name) is probably 10 times the drummer you are, and he's not all that great.  Nirvana made good music, but Curt Cobain's lyrics were too screwed up for me to listen to comfortably.  You should be slapped in the face for being and idiot.

but the best? my vote goes for.......i cant even begin to sort it all out, there are so many bands that have so much talent, and different styles of music that i dont think anyone can be properly named "best band ever"

being the most influencial band does NOT make you the BEST band.

I like Led Zeppelin, I think they are ok. But I do also believe Led Zep is the most overrated band ever. SO many people think Jimmy Page is the reason that the sun rises in the morning, and that is just annoying to me.

The members of Nirvana also had a lot more talent than they ever showed in their songs. To say that Cobain had no talent as a songwriter is just being petty. Dave Grouhl was an awesome drummer, and has since showed that he can play guitar and sing well too.

grohl is the only member i have any respect for, here is an excerpt

from one of their very deep and thought provoking balads:

Fill me in on your new vision
Wake me up with indecision
Help me trust your mighty wisdom
Yes i eat cow - i am not proud

Won't you believe it
It's just my luck
Won't you believe it
It's just my luck
Won't you believe it
It's just my luck
Won't you believe it
It's just my luck

Won't you believe it

Won't you believe it

Won't you believe it
It's just my luck
Won't you believe it
It's just my luck

No recess

You are in high school again (x8)

No recess (x7)

that second one is an entire song, how can you say cobain is a good song writer

and also, if they are such good musicians then why can every sixth grader with a guitar play smells like teen spirit?

Wouldn't that prove my point? He spread his time over 27 instruments... That means he probably wasn't a virtuoso for any particular instrument.

The Beatles started a new musical revolution, and they had catchy songs, but compared to the most talented musicians to bless this earth, they couldn't even compete.

Some musicians are unbelievablely talented with their instruments, but what difference does that make if they can't really get some great music going? (Case in point: Some of the "guitar virtuosos" of the 80's) Personally, I'd rather hear "Norweigen Wood" played out on a sitar over some guy playing the pentatonic scale really quickly.

I agree that The Beatles aren't the most talented musicians, but they are far from "sucking". People need to look beyond how complicated a song is and see what really matters: is listening to the song enjoyable? If that's the measure of a "good band", then I think The Beatles are definitely up there.

And besides, I recall saying that Miles Davis' band was the best ever, not the Beatles.
