Subject: Ressurected milsim .68 carbine
Date Posted: 20 January 2005 at 11:07am
My winter project.

I purchased this old .68 carbine about a month ago serial #7567 off ebay. It was stock.

I wanted a relatively light, durable M4 looking marker and this is what I came up with after quite a bit of research.

-full metal RIS
-full metal JCS rails
-full metal AR carry handle with mount and scope
-Air-tipps stock from my P/C
-vertical tank kit
-numerous internal mods
-raised hopper (evil smokestack)
-GG&G vert grip
-bushmaster rail guards
-I know the barrel is just OK...getting my Armson back from a buddy.

I have always wanted to do this to a .68 carbine, and now have finally done it! Waiting for the snow to melt!

It is from my Armotech WG65. You can purchase them seperately online for about $114-140. I had to dremel out the front barrel nut to fit over my barrel.

It is a 3.5oz co2 tank. Until recently I was unable to find them. Only 1 place I know of that stocks these things...good price too...I bought 4 @ $27 each....got free shipping for anything oer $100....crazy b/c I've seen them sell on EBAY for darn near $40 NOT including shipping. I haven't tested how many shots I can get, but have heard numbers between 150-200....hard part is is filling them right. I've got a fill station though.

hyper Nicely done! you need to add a front sight and a magazine well for your carbine. I bet that would make it a lot better. check out my marker so you know what I mean.

Thanks for the comments guys, but I prefer to keep it this way for now. The tank gives the magazine effect, and I didn't want to run my remote on this gun....a little more chalenging having to change air now too! Besides, I'd be afraid of breaking off some clip.

Everything on this marker is ROCK SOLID. Ain't nuttin' gonna break off or come loose.

As far as a front site goes, I prefer look w/o it. I've got my Armotech WG65 setup with all those doodads. I've also got a simulated silencer that I still may see how it looks.

I think you should run the tank off of a Remote Line, it would look alot better.

Very nice. It really really good, especially for a winter project.

You can find those little 3.5oz or 4oz tanks at any place that sells pump guns. http://www.doropaintball.com/AB1038101EQuick/shopexd.asp?id=6250 - http://www.doropaintball.com/AB1038101EQuick/shopexd.asp?id= 6250

That site has pretty good pump prices and a very good selection, which is more improtant when it comes to pump and stock class.

Man, those tanks are expensive. I found mine at http://www.expertshot.com/35ozco2tank.html - www.expertshot.com At $27 bucks they are a better deal, especially when you order 4 or more...free shipping over $100.

Hyper,

Spend some time and polish that barrels bore. The old 14" barrel (like yours) has a much better looking muzzle break.

Did you do the same to your barrel? Did it shoot a lot better?

Actually yes I did. It takes some time but is worth it. You just have to be careful.

Use a 1/4" wood dowel. Cut a notch about 2" long in one end that you can slip a piece of high grit paper in and secure with a rubberband. Never go below 800 grit but try to go as high as 1200. drive the dowel with a power drill. This is the part you have to be carefull with or you will damage your bore.

Once you have what appears to be a mirror finish it's time for the next step. After cleaning all the grit and residue from the high grit sanding it's time for the real polishing. Use a gritless aluminum polish, Mothers as an excellent product for this, on a lint free cotton cloth in place of the sandpaper on your dowel. (Yes, this part is messy so don't do it at the kitchen table)

Once you've cleaned ALL the polish residue you just have one last thing to do, treat the bore with a friction reducing compound. Several people like to use RainX, and it is a good choice. Personally I use a heavy duty silicone dry lubricant. It applies wet but leaves a dry low friction coating behind. Use a 20gage shotgun swab as an applicator. When the silicone gets too scratched up just use another swab with rubbing alchohol to remove. Allow it to dry and reapply.

When you done you have respectable barrel that enhances the appearance that you are looking for.

One word of note, this barrel is not quiet. If your looking for a "sniper" barrel this isn't it. This barrel barks with authority! It gets peoples attention. Which for your teammates is actually a good thing, tacticly.
