Hello all. I have been a visitor of the forum for awhile and figured I would try to join the forum after I purchased my 1st gun. This is one great board you guys have here!! Have learned a ton of helpful info from many of you which I would like to now say thanks to all. I have been playing p.b. for about 1 yr. now. Mostly woodsball w/some speedball throw in.I try to play every weekend as time permits especially after just purchasing an A5 w/E grip.. I have a delemia after playing  for the 1st time w/the new Tipp. After removing  the barel, I noticed that the top of one of the inner threads on the barrel was chipped or broken off. I have not tried to re-install the barel due to not wanting to damage the threads further. The gun functioned great as expected but I am wondering what to do about a replacement barrel? While playng Sat. a.m. I was asked if I would like to play in a 3 on 3 tourney in late Mar. and am miffed as to what type of barrel to get. The damaged one was a stock 8", any rec.'s from anyone as to what to do for replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,mm

Welcome to the forums!

Your Tippmann is still under warranty call them and they will give you instructions on how to send it and they will most likely send you a replacement barrel for free.

Once again, welcome, good luck and have fun!

ya call tippmann, and welcome to the forum! But i would try to look into a new barrel anyway like a Lapco Bigshot... stock barrels aren't the best.

Welcome aboard! If you wish to get another barrel besides the stock one, lapco bigshots, jj ceramics, and some DYE barrels are more commonly bought. To see what how other people feel about these and other barrels, visit http://www.pbreview.com - www.pbreview.com

A little chip on the end of your barrel threads should not cause a problem. Since most people upgrade to a better barrel it does not matter that much either, it gives you an excuse. Most people get either the J&J Ceramic(around $35) or the Lapco Bigshot(around $50). The Bigshot is worth the extra few dollors as it is a better barrel. You can spend more money, close too $100 for a Dye Ultralite, Boomstick, or any other high-end barrel.

Your other option is a barrel kit. A barrel kit has many barrels in one. Each barrel is a different size to match different paint perfectly. Some barrel kits have insterts and some barrel kits have different backs. I have the Evil Pipe and love it. There are many differnt kits to chose from, Smart Parts has the Freak kit, Empire has one, ect.

Many tippmann stock barrels appear chipped or broken on the last thread. If it threads in smoothly without catching then it is not a problem, if it "grabs" and stops screwing in then call tippmann. Usually the appearance of a missing thread peice is just because the annodizing has chipped off, and even if the smallest thread is missing it will not effect preformance.
Hope this helps.

Thanks again to all you guys for  the welcomes and advice.. Well I went out and bought a 12" J&J ceramic...it looks sweet(black).Hopefully I will get use it this weekend provided I make it thru the work week.. I tell you what, you folks made it alot easier to pick out a new barrel for sure. After reading a ton of reveiws and comments on them I was over-whelmed by the info.. Do many suffer from the dreaded Busted Ball Syndrome??? I will be honest I have  never broken a ball...hahahaha . had to throw that in,couldn't resist..No seriously, I have only shot PMI balls though due to the field where I play..I didn't realize it was a problem....Oh well live and learn or just fogettaboutit!!!

Cheers,MM

Update on the J & J 12" ceram. I broke it in the 1st round due assholus interuptus conflictictus maximus... Ran into a "small man" repeat small physically and mentally...This s.o.b. was actually older than me I am 39 oh geez, and this creep was 44-46 somewhere in that range...well to not be long winded he was your universal ref to beat all..When this crazy loon shot somebody he would run up to them and start screaming like a little kid "I shot you you are out"" I could not beleive what I was I seeing.Well after about 10 mins. of this crap several of my buds and I decided to take him down (justly of course) 3-4 shots and he was **edited**ing up a storm throwing his marker all  the way off the field..While between games he comes over to me and starts this you think you are hot s  t don't you mr. camo man.. i just looked down at him and didn't say a word..well that must have pissed him off because next thing he kicks my marker off the bench and dents my brand new barell....The lord held me back and the refs got him away from me for the time being but I was pissed.I never said one word to the little man the whole time.I think it is only due the the young people that  were around and a few moms here and there.Well that was it for me for the day,but when it came time to leave the park somebody said "anybody up for a cold beer 7 wings?""" just  what I needed with  aquickness!!! Well low and behold guess who I ran into in the bathroom at Tacomac..yup shorty...I asked him what his problem was and had he recently stopped taking his medication or something..All I heard was your a f"""" P"""" you lil **edited**...that was it I kicked that S>O>B>'s ass silly..I don't think he will be back to the park for eternity..Turns out the weasel was a Lawyer.I don't have anything against Lawyers but I always have wanted to knock one good right in the kisser...I don't and haven't been in a fight in over 2 yrs. so please don't get the idea I think I am some badass..Far from it I assure you ther are vets on this board tuff as steel but fighting is not a good thing but if you have to resort to it, kick butt!!!!!!

sorry for the rant and being long-winded,I feel much better now.Better than my barell eh??

If the threads aren't chipped off then it's ok. But if it's just the paint that has been chipped off don't worry about it. BTW welcome to the forums.
