anyone here on the forum a vegetarian or a vegan? I'm a vegetarian, i've been one for about a year now. Why did you decide to become vegetarian/vegan? I did it because of the ways that the animals are treated before they die and the fact i actually care about animals more than just which one will be my dinner. -------------

Im not a full vegetarian, but becuase of religious reasons I dont eat pork or catfish or things of that sort. I could very easily go full vegetatian though, I dont really eat meat that much, and I often eat alot of vegetarian foods (Phooney Meats) and they arnt that bad. I respect vegetarians alot, its not easy to do it in the society we live in. -------------

My friend is full vegan...he's insane. I personally was a vegetarian about a year about, but I stopped because it was too hard to get my necessary amount of protein for what I was doing. -------------

Being a vegitarian is one thing, being a Vegan is soemthing else. A Vegan diet is one of the most unhealthy diets. Rufusing to eat even honey because bees made it is plain stupid. well, the animal is dead, does it really matter how it was treated? its a cow, i dont think it really cares if he he gets the water bed or the king size standard matress. Its dead, eat it. Its a chicken, i dont think it cares where he lives, and its food to every other kind of animal.

it is hard to be vegetarian, but morningstar farms has lots of great fake chicken, burgers, wings, etc. tofu isnt too bad, just make sure you get your protein, i need to buy vitamins... -------------

i actually wish i could go vegan, but soy milk isnt too tasty and i happen to love cheese...so i figured vegetarians better than nothing, its hard living so close to Philly, since i used to eat cheesteaks like crazy..but just gotta keep up my willpower. The veggie burgers at Burger King are pretty good i think. yeah protien isnt hard to get, iron is tho. -------------

Well the reason Iron is in red meat is because things with red meat, ala cows, eat grass, which contains iron. Food like Spinach is an awsome source of iron. Besides I see no reason to go vegan. Cows are not killed in the process of milking. -------------

i agree totally that theres nothing biologically different between us and animals. but animals don't line up millions of other animals for massive slaughter each and everyday, how many people here would eat an animal if they had to kill it themselves? and how many would do it without a gun? -------------

honestly, I've thought about it. But then I was like "wait...im 6'1"
175 lbs and play varsity hockey...i need to bulk up." So meat is a HUGE
source of protein for me, which I obviously need. Protein shakes are
also a huge part of my diet, along with a ton of healthy foods. But
anyways, huge respect to anyone who believes in all that, AND follows
through with it. I hate people who are
all like "they torture teh cows!!" and all that....then they're sowin

I think the same people would eat the same amout. The reason why the animals are lined up and slaughtered is because that is the effective manner in which humans have deviced to get the food on the table the cheapest and most time effcient manner. There are people in this world that still hunt and kill for their food, the rest of us just dont have the time. I dont see the people that lived pre-modern farming techniques having any trouble eating meat. -------------

If we were to get this large without the standard eating practices, how many people would starve because we ate every living thing? if you notice the lack of meat industry in countries and even in america before it was as big, look at the population too. i think you'll see that there weren't as many people around then either. -------------

food is good, i agree. i'm not saying that animals are Equivalent to humans either, or else they'd be the dominant species. i'm simply stating that i dont think that just because we dominant means we have the right to do what we do to these animals. i feel very lucky to have what i have. i realize its not that easy to help people like that either. and i'm sure if he could that he would too. I was simply saying that just because i am so privilaged (once again, this is my opinion) i can just treat animals however i want and kill a ridiculous amount of them to use as my dinner and whatnot. -------------

I was stating that if there wasn't a Mcdonalds, resturant, or whatever on every corner, then how many people would survive on their own? We kill so many animals because we ahve so many people to feed, but if they had to hunt, kill, and feed themselves, how much smaller would the population be? Between the weak dying of starvation, or us just killing off all the animals and starving etc... was that better? if not i dont really know how to explain it better, maybe someone could help me out? lol -------------

My favorite are those who say they are vegitarians and think they know exactly how a slaughter house works. Seeing as how I worked at one, I can counter anything you say about the 'tourturing' you say happens. The animals are raised, and their care takers are good people and actually CARE about the animals. I can't even tell you how many times I watched as the workers would go out and pet the chickens. Hell, even one guy gave some of them names. Living space is tight for them, and in the end, yes their heads are chopped and the feathers are plucked, but it's in that order. they NEVER pluck first, cut second. When the heads are severed, they won't feel a thing. I like those people who give pets human personalities. I think I now understand what your trying to say.
Sure meat consumption would be less, but even in places where meat is still limited and fresh killed, it is still consumed. I dont disagree with ones choice to not eat meat. I believe that anyone can do anything they would like to as long as it doesnt hurt any other human including themselves. -------------

ive never claimed to know how every slaughter house works. But i'm sure that not every slaughter house is as nice as your was. And i'm sure all those chickens, cows, etc. would prefer to live out in the wild and such. Probably have a better chance of suriving too lol. i also know that animals don't contain the same thought ability as humans, or i'm sure they'd have found a way for them to slaughter and eat us haha. Incase your wondering, i know you aren't necessarily talking directly to me or attacking me, so don't think that i took offense or anything. how many chickens were killed a day at your slaughter house, on average (if you know)? -------------

I have no idea of the numbers, I only supervised aspects of the animals growing processes, such as weather or not it was a healthy enough chicken. How can so many people be so wrong. If the animles would thrive as much in the wild we wouldnt domesticate them. We would just go threw the wild with big nets and get them for free. Yes animles should be treated moraly no unesisary torture but when it comes down to it we dont kill them any more brutaly then nature if anything they suffer much less. If you belive in evolution then we have the right to eat animles because we evolved to do so. If your a christian you can because God said its ok. You obviously haven't heard of something called a FOOD CHAIN. WE ARE PART OF IT, NOT SEPARATE FROM IT. It wouldn't be economical for the animals to be "tortured" anyway, because it would cause a lot of stress hormones to be released into the meat, giving it a nasty flavor, and toughening it. People wouldn't buy it. And don't post any links to propaganda, like PETA, because I'll write it off as B.S. That's also why, with less experienced hunters, the meat has a gamey taste. It happens if the deer or other prey doesn't die right away. You pay for it with tough, gamey meat. Especially with bow hunting. As you get more experienced, you kill the animal quicker, and get better meat. It pays to kill animals humanely. As for hunters "raping and torturing animals without eating them", I take offense to that. ALL the hunters I know or have ever talked to (and I know a lot of hunters; practically all of my family, and many more people that I know) keep the meat from the kill. Also, all of them, and myself included, believe it is IMMORAL to waste any animal you kill. The "raping and torturing" part doesn't represent even a slim percentage of legitimate hunters, and just makes you sound like an idiot. [/rant] |

Some practical advice for the Western vegetarian: Develop a liking for Indian food (as in "from India"). Other foods from that region will also work, but can be harder to come by. The problem with Western veggie-food is that it is trying to pretend to be meat. Hence veggie-burgers, tofu-burgers, soy-turkey, and other meat-wannabe dishes. Indians have a long history of true vegetarian cuisine, without trying to pretend to be meaty. Visit any Indian restaurant, and they will have a large selection of vegetarian dishes (including some that will help your dislike of spinach). And cooking Indian at home isn't hard either. Stop eating meat substitutes, and start eating proper vegetarian meals.

The majority of transmission fluids contain fish oil. So technically, vegans shouldn't use cars. I love beef jerky. i love serloins. chicken. roast beef. any meat. i hunt deer and turkey a lot. fresh fried turkey is some of the best meat you will ever taste. first u sit there for a few hours, then u shoot it, then u gotta pull the feathers out, then u cut it down the middle, then you cut away the breasts, then you fry it up. yup, fun. Elk jerky is sooooooo good. I could go for a double cheese right now. so what the difference between vegetarian and vegan |

Cheesesteaks from Pat's in Philly are the best meat-based food in the world. If you're ever in Philly, order a "Whiz-wit" - it's the most unhealthy thing a person could eat, but man, are they tasty... One Pat's steak could instantly make a vegatarian wanting more. |

all i can say, the only reason to go vegitarian in my mind would be for a diet, if you have high colesteral and whatnot. If you are concerned about pain and all that the animals go through. My aunt is vietnamese, and when the family gets together and goes fishin and crabin, we gotta ask her if she wants crab, and if she does, we take the crabs, give em rubber bands, and take a nail and a hamer, and put nails trough the brain, then she says she can eat them.
