The closest sniper type barrel in existent...is the Flatline, all the others will not come close to what the Flatline can accomplish.

Besides paying the price tag on the Flatline, be prepared to purchase quality balls in order fer the Flatline to work to your advantage.

I would go for the flatline, if you have the barrel and velocity set just right, it will produce very good results.  However, if the flatline is outside your price range, my next choice would be a lapco bigshot.  It is a very good barrel for the price.  Hope this helps you and good luck.

Get an accurate and quiet barrel (AA, Lapco is accurate, but not so quiet) and some good camo.  When they blow the whistle, run your butt off and hide in some bushes... I hope you're patient.  Sniping in paintball isnt so much about range, its about being silent, still, patient, knowing which shots to take (And when) and being in the right place at the right time.

Flatlines are verynice, great brush penetration and exclent distance. Use Marbalizers or other hard shell small diameter paint. Small??? Trust me they work gerat in a flatline.

Tuning the flatline can be a right pain- mine is still finnicky, but a Stabilizer and some range time should solve that. Once that's done, though, it's incredible in the woods. The flat trajectory is far and away its biggest advantage in vegetation. The long distance is great too, in game like 'attack the fort' and such, where you get some nice long range defensive shots...

They arent better. Its more preference. The All-American barrel is a good barrel, its a two peice so you can change the size. The freak is similar but you also have inserts, so you can match it to your paint, increasing accuaracy. The All-American and Freak are more speedball like barrels. From you saying you wanted to be a "sniper", you probably play woods so I wouldnt suggest them. I would go with the flatline.

I have a standerd A-5 flatline and it works perfectly. I dont even use great paint i mostly use 32 degrees team collors and i love the accuracy and distence.

Trust me the A-5 flatline is a great upgrade for woods ball, especially if u want to attemp to become a "sniper" I recomend for ur first game u bring ur velocity adjusting wrench though so u can get the velocity good.

If u havent already read the sticky on flatline, read it, he knows wat hes talking about.

Flatline. The range is just dominating.

By the way everyone, I read an interview with Chuck Stoner, and I have to admit, he actually gives the best argument for being a paintball sniper. I never considered myself a sniper or anything, I just play whatever position I'm in the mood for, but I always saw the cause and understood the arguments snipers make. After reading what Chuck had to say, all the people who say there is no such thing as a paintball sniper can just quiet themselves.

I would post a link to a website, but I read it in a book.  Hold on a second, I'll go find it.

EDIT: Ok, since it's five pages long, I'll try to summarize the main points.

1) "As a sniper, I'm hunting...what I try to do is set myself up in siutations where people will approach me, enter my effective range, and not know where I am even after I've eliminated them."

2) "As soon as you begin to fire, if your gun is noisy, or if your movements are quick and jerky, you give away your position..your fighting ability is compromised"

3) "You should always set up fights on your own terms."

4) "I choose where to hide, I choose the shooting lane, I choose the terrain...Human eyes pick up erratic movement very quickly-rapid, jerky movements, swift movements. Our eyes are arranged in that way...move very little...steadily and smoothly."

5) "If you go into the woods, and you're looking for a whole paintball player, you might get lucky and see that.Mostly, you're going to see hands and the corner of a goggle, or the tip of somebody's boot. You have to be able to interpret what you see and then incorporate that piece into the whole and identify your target. The same thing happens in...deer hunting. You rarely see a whole deer. You see a tail, a leg..."

6) "It helps to know the fields...I know the fields very well, so I can use the creeks. people don't realize it, but one of the most effective stalking techniques is to...move in a creek bed because the noise of the water conceals most of your movements...Your down a foot or two below the line of sight...People just don't expect to see you wading down a creek..."

7) "...you always find bunkers and trees and log piles and fox holes. Everybody thinks those are the ideal places to hide. I disagree. I want to hide where somebody is not going to look for me..."

8) "I strive for a shooting lane that provides me an effective, defensible, dangerous position to work from."

After this, there's tips on scopes and how to make them work, a lesson in camoflage and the colors of the terrain, and the tutorial on a cheap ghillie suit. I probably missed other keys points, but I didn't want it to be extremely long.

I REPEAT BECAREFUL USING THE WORD "SNIPER".  I SWEAT THE FRIKEN PEOPLE IN HERE WILL TURN INTO LYNCH MOBS AND ATTACK WITH PITCH FORKS.  I BELIEVE IN SNIPERS IN PAINTBALL.

FLATLINES= FAR BUT EASY TO DODGE, TEMPERMENTAL

BIGSHOT, J & J CERAMIC, AND CMI RIFLED TRU-FLITE ARE AWESOME BARRELS.

Thanks Nigel.

It's all from "The Complete Guide to Paintball". I know it sounds kind of like a childish info book that only rookies (the world "newb" is a stupid, stereotyping corruption) would buy, but it's got a lot of market reviews, tactics, field and store listings around the world, history, etc. Hey, it was only twenty bucks and I found it at my college's book store, so it's practically a text book for me.

^yea, except u can hit things with a flatline, so you wont have to worry about it.

i belive paintball snipers do exist, but i dont belive u can simply become one.Why do you people not belive that paintball snipers exist?

Wut if you are wearing a ghilli suit, and up in a tree, and picking off people who are runing to different trees/bunker 150 feet away from you? What characteristics of paintball are their that make it impossible to become a "sniper" please tell.

And the 18" doubles as a walking stick to help you get around after you got bunkered cause you sat in the bushes the entire game.

If you can shoot 150 feet through dense brush and hit anything at all I would be amazed.

And who said you would be shooting through dense brush? It would be a real crappy woods ball field if all their was was brush around.

In some cases, it's actually more effective to set up in front of brush than it is to be behind it. If you have good camo, it breaks up your form better, similar to how WWI and WWII ships use a zebra pattern of camo to confuse U-boats.

Posted By: A-5 Command
Date Posted: 06 February 2005 at 3:54pm
but he said to shoot 150 through dense brush, you cant do that with any paintball gun the ball would break when u hit the bush, and unless the field your playing that is just acres of brush (which in that case would make a terrible field) the flatline is an excelent barrel.

^Yeah, I see what you're saying. I hate the fields that are just undergrowth up to my knees - I hate the thorned brush, rips your clothing up bad. Fields should be open more open with nice fat trees, logs/bunkers, and maybe some brush around a creek bed, but that's it.
