Not worth it, and are banned at most fields.
Look into a red dot sight instead. Still not worth it except for the looks, but at least it's legal.

I have a 42mm Simmons red dot that I use on my A5 from time to time.
It's actually pretty useful for when you want that first ball to be on target, but it kinda weighs a lot.
Laser=no
red dot scope=yes

One of the major drawbacks is that you have to be in slightly
dimmer light to use it, as it doesn't show up very well in broad
daylight. That said, if there is any dust, mist, or ANYTHING in
the air, it draws a nice line right back to your position. If your
target is facing you, they will see a little pinprick of red light
where you are at, even if it isn't pointed right at them. Better to
use in fast combat, when you know what you are shooting at,
and they know you are there too, and then you don't have to
aim. Put it on the target and fire.

^ I would actuallysay the biggest drawback of laser sights is that they are usually illegal to use on other human beings.
Lasers and eyeballs don't mix very well.

they are useless, especiall if you are shooting long range.

Paintball guns are not accurate enough to need a scope or a sight/laser. The shot to shot consistancy is not good enough to expose a need for one. Scopes and things only give you tunnle vision. You will not watch your side or use your peripheral vision.
The only real time you could use one is in a scenario game where you need to look for targets that are further away or have it to look nice on your gun.

Class 2 lasers are not a hazard to your eye unless you stare at them on purpose... which would be like doing anything else you know is bad for you... stupid! That said, I've never heard of anyone seeing better performance because they use one either. Many I've seen are taped and look like like crap. They look cool until they take a ball... then they get fragged and look pretty bad. Unfortunately the red dots I've seen can't take hit either... Got ducked tape? Spend the money on a good pair of gloves or new lenses for that beat up mask.

Class 2 Lasers are limited to 400 mW Power for good reason , besides being Illegal at any field I have ever heard of / played at . they can temporarily blind an oponnent (try switching all the lights off in a fully lighted room, at midnight , with no external sources of light , thats real similar )
Maybe you could use them in a recreational game ,of friends , but not in any organised scenario game , and definitly not in any speedball game .
For the short ranges a paintball marker could be considered relatively accurate at , I would go with a pistol sight , like the red-dot , that was designed for snapshooting , No parrallax , no magnification , no emitted energy (passive sight) , and no Hassle with the field owners .

Class II lasers are lasers that when the human eye notices one, the human brain will automatically avert the eyes gaze preventing any damage. You have to stare at a class II laser to have any damage. I've not seen any ban on them posted at the two fields I play at and any field that has banned them, did so as a knee jerk response not understanding the science. Class III and IV lasers are the "bad" lasers. Now would some nerd go on-line and prove me wrong?
But laser sites for paintball guns is a pretty silly concept anyway....

He-he , the classification of a laser is based upon its power output , not the human eye's response to the emissions .
The most commonly used laser for sighting systems is the He-Ne (helium-Neon) laser , emitting all of its energy in the visible spectrum . I forget the specific wavelength , would it matter anyway ?
Yes , its energy would be like looking at the sun directly , you'd squint , but the beauty, and danger of a laser is this , the further away you get from the sun , the less energy per square inch it delivers , but for a laser ,its beam is focused , and will cause immediate discomfort and temporary "nightblindness" instantly because of the beam's undiminished intensity .
I work with 8 THOUSAND WATT industrial CO2 welding lasers , and Yag (Ytriuum , argon , Gallium) cutting lasers on almost a daily basis , and these are the bad boys of the laser family (Both Class III and IV). These ,of course , you wont find on any street corner , but do practice laser safety on almost a daily basis . Even a lowly laser sight can make a dramatic impact on your short term vision with a momentary exposure .
Everything Xspyderman says is true , and More !!
you want something to really fun to play with ? , try a night vision sighting system ! Whoo-Hoo !!

I must correct DrunkDriver on a couple points: Red dot scopes do NOT cause any sort of loss of peripheral vision when used correctly(both eyes open). You just see a red dot superimposed on your target.
Also, in my experience, my guns are not even that high-end and they are very much accurate enough to warrant the use of a red dot scope. I have a ProCarbine, M98C, and A5RT...and run them all on co2 exclusively. I use LAPCO barrels and PMI Premiums usually. If my guns are capable of putting 80% of my shots in a 2" circle at 75', then I know most of these other guy's setups are capable of even better. Who knows what I could do with a HPA tank!
Xspyderman, I own a Simmons 42mm red dot and use it on my A5RT and M98C from time to time....it has been shot numerous times and never had a problem other than having to clean it!
Also, my Simmons came with see-thorugh scope covers and a warranty not unlike Tippmann's!
The only thing I don't like about the scope is it's weight....it makes the gun unbalanced with that extra weight on top.
Finally, very good posts by Shadowminion and
Psycho5785 stating the dynamics of lasers and the usefulness of them in games, respectively.
