dont worry man, people that tell you that know nothing about paintball.  it doesn't harm your marker in any way.  The reason why is because whats so different from that and then having a paintball in it.  it still functions the same(the bolt slides fowards after the valve shoots the air foward) wether or not theres a ball or not. the only thing that it does is that it waste more gas, and that;s it.  THats because more gas is escaping per each shot because nothings blocking it's path, so it becoimes very unefficient. But overall don;t worry.

It messes up the bolt ,because there is nothing in the way for it to move out (the paintball). And it waste gas.Plus it will send air thru your gun (mostly out the front though) I do not think warriorsnake know this.

...  I see nothing wrong with dry firing your marker.

So what if there is nothing in the way of the front bolt for it to push out?  And gas goes through your marker anyways, and I don't think it wastes any more gas than a normal shot...

no, it has the same efficiancy as a gun shooting paint. the valves dwell (time it is open) is still the same. its safe to dry fire, except your internal o-rings may wear faster, just like when shooting balls. so i wouldnt reccomend emptying a 20oz every day. you should dry fire after oiling, and take off your barrel when doing so.

what these guys tell you is not true for all paintball guns.

I see too many of you guys generalizing, and it might get someones gun broken.

SMG's will not cycle properly if dry fired. ATs markers will actually break if they are fired without their magazine too much.

Please be more specific in your posts.

There will be no damage from dry firing your marker. I do it all the time.

You're incorrect, you might have real guns mixed with paintball guns.

The bolt is just fine, it cycles the same, back and fourth every single time the same way all the time, even if there's no paintball in front of it.  Air also goes through your gun all the time when you pull the trigger it goes from your valve, out to the front.

Huh. For the A-5-

1. The bolt doesn't push anything. Ball or no ball, it just doesn't. It actually keeps balls from falling into the breech at the wrong time.

2. The A-5 could care less whether there's a ball in there or not. Everything is designed to fire without needing the ball to assist the firing process.

The dry firing is a kind of confusing misconception- actual guns you can't, people think the same about a paintball gun. And of course, to throw in the monkey wrench, some paintball guns can't be dry fired like the SMG. Just make sure you know how your gun operates or you ask us if its ok before dry firing your heart out.

Some guns you cant really dry fire that well, like forsay impulses need the ball to help recock.  The bolt wont recock some of the time but you can still dry fire it.  Tippmanns have no problem with this and is pretty safe.
