I was asked this question by a guy @ work today and was wondering what would happen if he put hpa on is A-5 that has a x-chamber? He asked me mainly because my A-5 runs on HPA and he thought mine had an x-chamber on it. I tried to search but it timed out the 5 attempts that I tried.

Thanks Jeff

Not a damned thing, the HPA would flow right through the expansion chamber.  It will not affect the ooperation of the gun, good or bad,  except for the fact that there will be more air in the gun when you discconect the air source.  Meaning you would have to fire more shots to empty the gun....or there will be just a bigger rush of air depended on how you remove your air source.  I like to partiall remove the tank, just enough to close the pin-valve(like Tippmann says), fire the gun untill it is empty and then finish removing the tank, this saves air and o-rings.

Let me further explain what would occur. I just fairly recently turned an x-chamber into a volumizer. A good x-chamber would slow down the flow of the HPA coming through. At high pressure output, this slow down is *usually* not noticeable. However, when applied to low pressure applications, the lower pressure air is unable to flow through the incredibly small holes in the x-chamber. That is why I modified mine by removing the chambers and drilled four large holes surrounding the bolt holding the halves together.

I mentioned "usually" not noticeable with high pressure output. I did actually run into this problem. It was a compounded problem where my velocity wouldn't go above 260. The cause was a combination between a bent drive spring, a bind in the rear bolt's path, and the x-chamber slowing down the flow of air just enough. A new spring slightly fixed it, and my velocity could go to 290 (good enough), but after removing the bind everything worked ok. The reason I know the x-chamber with HPA was a contributing factor- the gun worked perfectly fine with CO2. The bind was pretty minimal and the spring was slightly bent.

That little story might also help you if you work at a shop.
