First off, let me say I'm very impressed with this Smart Parts on this. Came in a nice box, with a way better manual than the Shocker one. Comes with all the tools you need, and a few extra o-rings and barrel condom. The gun looks great, I'm loving the ninja look mine has going. The trigger is kinda long outta the box, but I havn't adjusted it yet. I've got fast fingers, so I could max out the board even with a long pull. The trigger is very light, and snaps back into place very quick which is nice. I was pretty surprised, the stock feedneck has o-rings inside that fit my sanded Halo very snugly, it ain't going no where, so I won't bother buying a new neck. The gun itself is tiny, just like a Shocker, only weights a little more, but you can't tell with a tank and Halo on anyways. The reg makes a good feeling fat grip, so that's a plus. The only thing I think it definantly needs is a Uni-Mount, the duckbill ASA makes the tank sit far back and feels kinda long. I aired it up, no leaks, that's good. Filled my Halo, and went out and let it rip. It shoots pretty fast, but I'm used to a lot faster so to me 17 bps feels painfully slow. But the gun does exactally what it says. The eyes seemed to work good, I didn't break a ball, and it didn't dry fire at all. Stock barrel shoots fine, I might not bother replacing it at all. Again, no breaks, and I was shooting crappy dimpled 2 month old paint, and it's snowing outside to give you an idea of the tempurature.

All in all I'm happy with it. If it keeps shooting like it just did, it'll be a great back up, and a hell of a starter tourny level gun for anyone.

Now for the good stuff:

The Shocker was definantly nicer, and a lot faster, but this is still a good gun. Shocker is better, but you get what you pay for. And I'm feeling the black, and the deciding factor on color was black is all that's in stock at Punishers.

this is such a smart move for SP, there going to make loads of money.

i wonder why they cap the board at 17bps, i wonder if thats all the gun can handle and if WAS comes out with a board maybe it will screw the internals or somthing. meh. make sure if there is a WAS board coming out that you get one and give another review.

^^^No one really knows for sure yet, but I've been reading people saying the gun won't go faster than 17 because it has too small of a selnoid, so much faster than that air can't get through it and it won't fully cycle. So unless someone makes a new noid, or some sort of aftermarket internals, I think it might be limited to 17. We'll see soon enough most likely.

Kinda like SP's answer to dye's Proto Trix (proto shocker? haha)

Well I still think its a hideous marker but if it performs well and is reliable then who cares huh. I might try and presuade my little brother into ordering one to replace his spyder or something

Answer to the Proto Trix? Good joke, completely differentm market has nothing to do with the PM5's sales. If anything, manufacturers will have to answer with something to compete with SP's new lower priced market.

But, nice Ion Jeep. I can't wait till I get mine (Saturday, I was 1 hour off from a Red one, could've waited till next week, but I got impacient fast and am now getting black). I'm seriously considering using this as my main gun, just because of the reviews.

So why does anyone need to shoot faster than 17bps? It's not possible for a human running completely perpendicular to your stream of fire to break through a stream at 12bps without getting hit, and the chances of them running completely perpendicular to your firing line aren't too good most of the time.

17bps is more than adequate to stay competitive. Not to mention that Xball is now capped at 15bps I believe, so you are already passed what most pros will be playing at.

Its really not about laning off the moves. Its more less space between each ball on the way at someone snapping. Well, at least for me that is, but I set my boards at 16.

Which is exactly what I was getting at. After 12bps there isn't enough space for an average person running at a good clip to make it between the gap between two balls at that speed. Or say someone sticks their fat head out from behind a bunker, if you are already firing that means in the one second that they may have their head out 17 balls are trained on theis spot. Say they react in 1/4 of a second, that means in that 1/4 of a second approximately 4 paintballs have a chance of hitting them.

Granted this is a very loose approximation, but it is far enough away from 17bps to make the argument entirely valid.

No wonder I shoot a mech...

Tell us when you get to use it in a game, I'd like to hear about how it feels on the field.

Also, to whoever called me a trendwhore-I simply gave my opinion on what I thought the marker was going to be, it turned out I was wrong, and I admitted it. That's a crap load better than what most of the people on this forum do.

I got to actually field test the gun today, and I sure was impressed. Over the chrono, I was getting great consistency, highest was 272, lowest was 269, with several shots reading the same thing. The gun preformed great, I used it all day and had no desire to be shooting anything else. We had a team practice day with the new team I'm playing on, and they had me playing front. The gun was great for that because just like a Shocker, it's tiny and easy to move with. And I'm loving the rebound. Start shooting like 6 bps and it ramps, I loved it. Off the break I could run and shoot and still be putting out 17 bps without having to try. And before you go crying, it's totally legal for the tournament series we're playing in 2 weeks, so bite me. The gun just feels great to shoot, no kick, and it mows. I didn't have a single problem with it after putting about a case through it. Efficency is pretty good, but I couldn't get an exact reading because I was only shooting a hopper per game and refilling my tank every 2 games. I thought it was funny, I got more people looking and asking to shoot my $285 gun than the people with Timmys and DM4/5's did. And like 9 people asked me what kind of Shocker it was, haha. I'm in love with this gun, it's the best deal ever. If I was smart, I'd sell my DM5 and just save the money and only shoot the Ion. Go buy one for yourself.

Yes, but putting ball on top of ball when someone is snapping isn't always the best thing. I usually play one on the bunker one 3 inches off the bunker when trying to catch someone snapping. So, realisticly (for me at least) its about 8 bps, and appoximately 1/2 of those are usually right on.(Maybe I suck, Idk, then again I've been called a Paintball god before..) So around 4 balls when snapping actually have the chance of hitting the guy, compared to 3 or 2 (depending upon speed variations) it does make a difference.

Speed, eyes, speedball gun peroid, style, well u really cant even compare the 2. Ion- Made for speed. A-5- made for a lil of speed, woods, heavy duty, etc..

I would say keep the a5, and save cash to pick up a Ion too.

I was at the field with him that day, and there where 2 guys there with brand ne Dm5's. It was both there first time playing with them. both of them aired up there guns and guess what , both where leaking, the 285 dollar gun owns all
