......... Its a 98 with a new barrel, double trigger, and drop forward..
How, retarded is that..
Though they better sell that egrip for the 98 C because to get the E
pro only costs 38 bucks more, and if I could drop whatever electronics
are in that into my 98... I would do it.

I still have faith that maybe just maybe tippmann will release another marker in the near future that is what a tippmann should be. Because, that is notin any way, shape, or form the innovavative marker or high end marker tippmann and its associates claimed it to be. WAS stated their new board will be compatible with all of tippamnns several future markers, so taht gives some hope. But until i see my faith proved true, im very dissapointed in them, and if tippmann does not release an innovative, creative marker be june 30, i will have lost all respect for them.

Wow, I'm glad I have my pro carbine. I think the tippmann R&D department was working heavily on that one. What a load of crap tippmann. Let's through one or two upgrades on the gun and then rename it, it'll be sweet. After we do that, we'll change our name to Kingman. CRIPES. That's a load of crap. My whole issue is with the marketing of it.
Tippmann has been known to create little "rip-off" packages, where you buy a package with a few ups, and instead of saving you money, it actually costed more!
I called them "newb-packs"....but they still said "Model 98 Custom" on the guns.
Now, they are trying to re-word stuff to makes it seem like something it's not.....a classic Kingman move.
Tippmann's products used to speak for themselves....now they're jamming the Tippmann name in every nook and cranny that's available.
I just feel less proud of being a Tippmann owner seeing that they have gone that route with their advertising.
|
Posted By: Zesty
Date Posted: 18 February 2005 at 5:17pm
Simply, if Tippmann would have just said,"Hey, we're coming out with a new M98C value-package that includes a drop, better stock barrel, double trigger, and better paint job. Buy everything in one package and save some cash."...I could respect that.
But instead, they make a big fuss over it, and even try and change up the name to keep things fresh.
I actually give them props for coming out with a package that saves a bit of money, but the package does NOT deserve it's own special name....Pro? Please!

I guess you missed my whole point.
My beef is with the way Tippmann is marketing it. It's not that they made a new package for the M98C, it's that they call it the "M98C Pro" and go out on a limb to shove this down our throats.

crying so loud if there hadnt been all the discussion of the "new
tippmann." This looks to me like an effort to establish a soldi
baseline line of equipment. I dont think we've seen all of what
tippmann has coming. I wouldnt not be surprised in the least if
Tippmann released an all new (or mostly new) marker or concept by the
end of this year. Now, whether or not its any good remains to be
seen, but I wouldnt give up hope just yet ladies and gents. This
reeks of "teaser" to me

It wasn't a new gun, just a few slight modifications, that may, or may have not been good, depending on your point of view, and a new part of a name tacked on. Sounds similar to me.

Man, you people... I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall...
It's a re-package of the M98c to compete with Kingman on the Low-end market... It MAKES PERFECT SENSE! They WANT MORE MARKET SHARE.
Again, there are THREE projects in the works. The Pro-Custom (in stock, RT and Wicked Air Sports E-Grip), a Pro A-5 (in the same three variations) and the UPCOMING MARKER THAT NO ONE HAS SEEN YET.
R&D is working on the newest marker now, and it incorporates the same WAS EQ board... but that's all that is known about it.
That said, keep the faith. I think everyone is going to be suprised by things from tippmann in the future, even you space-gunners...

Shame on you, Tippmann Pneumatics! |
Zesty, Tippmann is a business. They need to make money and it's been over two years since they last released a new product.
Second. The addition of the WAS EQ board is more than just a few ups... The WAS EQ will outperform the A-5 E-grip (prog. 10 to 30bps). Yes, it's built into the same body as the 98c, but it's definately different.
Third. This is one of three projects. Next up is a pro-variation of the A-5. THEN there is a new gun that has nothing to do with either the 98c or the A-5. THIS IS THE NEW GUN.
Tippmann is moving to take some of Kingman's market share in the low end electro market. It makes sense for them to do so. They're looking to re-tool thier approach to the entire market. SO far Tippmann has been Newbies, Field owners and us Loyalists... They've let Kingman and everyone else take the Speedball and high end market... They're looking to correct that oversight that eveyone here has been complaining about. They're looking to make a splash and this is only the first step.

^^^ - Exactly. The M98 became the 98 Custom because they milled out some interior room to make it easier to upgrade.
The idea here is to make a splash. The compete on the low-end electo market now for $239 a pop for the Pro Custom E. Next up they'll tweek the A-5 and re-package it.
Then it's on to the Speed/High-End market that they've been ignoring forever.
They're doing the very things that members of this very forum like to cry about them not doing, and now those same members are crying because they started doing those things... Tippmann is a big name right now, but it's going to get bigger...

It cracks me up how people complain about this new marker.
I don't think Tippmann expected you to sell your existing Model 98 or A5 to buy the Custom Pro. As Dr. Phil would say "It's not about You!". It's about all the new players following in your footsteps. They don't have guns yet and these are great guns for them to start with.
For years Tippmann has been known to make the MOST reliable and durable guns in paintball. For some reason, you guys want them to just blow that off and make another high-end, unreliable electronic marker to compete with Intimidators and such. If you want an Intimidator, buy an Intimidator. If you want a low-cost, super reliable marker, buy a Tippmann.
If you already have a Tippmann, what are you complaining about?
I for one, think it's a good move. I'll stand behind Tippmann on this and I expect to sell a LOT of these to a LOT of satisfied customers who won't be upset at all with the move Tippmann made.

If I sound "whiney" about this whole thing, well, then so be it.
However, I am just extremely cautious about trusting the "new"
Tippmann. Many corporate changeovers are NOT a good thing, and
usually lead to a homogenization of the product, and I just can't bear
the thought of seeing that happen to my beloved Tippmann.
Possibly, things may remain quality focues, heck, the product may even
improve. If so, then Hallelujah, brothers and sisters, but until I see
the proof in the pudding, I will believe it when I see it.
Yeah, they Pro line should help bust through the Kingman sales numbers
in the low end market, and that can't hurt. Tippmann quality, if that is maintained, at a Spyder price is fantastic news.
What I DO know is that I am hearing more complaints about lousy
customer service than I ever heard in the past, ans they purged a lot
of good people that had been there a decade or more.
All I can say is that the "new, improved" Tippmann is going to have to prove themselves to me to keep my business and loyalty.
Otherwise, I will guard my "retro" Tippmanns with my life and expand in other directions.

Whats the difference in releasing this and releasing the 98custom when they did?
It wasn't a new gun, just a few slight modifications, that may, or may have not been good, depending on your point of view, and a new part of a name tacked on. Sounds similar to me.
You all sound like 7 year olds, bitter because Santa brought you a go cart instead of a dirtbike. Chill. |
Big difference. The custom added some very thoughtful improvements to the standard Model 98.
The "Pro" adds absolutely no change in the way your gun works or the way you add ups.
Basically, the Custom improved on the Model 98, but the Pro doesn't improve on anything.
Pretty major difference if you ask me.

I will come out and say I am one of those that were wrong.....I never thought Tippmann would stoop this low! Basically, they are doing what we have been dissing Kingman for for years....releasing the same gun with a few ups and calling it something else. Oh well, I'm still rocking my vintage ProCarbine, M98C, and A5RT...but it sucks to see how things have changed. |
Kreeper-X, I see your points, but allow me to elaborate on mine.
I understand the business aspect of it....but since when has Tippmann been the sort of company to put business before self-respect?
Like I said, I have no problem with the new gun package coming out, it's the marketing. I don't see any reason whatsoever to change the name on the gun in any way. When they changed from the M98 to the Custom, there were some major differences in how the 2 guns were upgraded...hence the addition of the "Custom" label.
But here, I see no real reason for the "Pro", other than to lure in newbs. Which,I'll agree, is good for business, but not good for the respect of your loyal customers.
Let me get one thing straight, I don't think any of the packages are a bad deal! They actually save you money as oppsoed to costing you more like the old packages.
It's just that, they never changed the name of the M98C on the old packages, so what makes this situation any different?
I'll admit, I don't know anything about the new guns or any R&D that Tipmann is doing, I will bow to your expertise on this one. All I'm saying is I don't like how it is being marketed, and I think it's a step in the wrong direction as far as keeping respect, but a step in the right direction as far as making money and spreading the name.

I think it's funny how everyone on this forum bashes Kingman for doing the very thing they are proud of Tippmann doing now.
It's good for new players, I just don't like the name change and the inference that it's a new gun.
Simply, I can see the change in THE GUN from the M98 to the M98C....where is the CHANGE from the M98C to the M98Pro?
"Tippmann quality, if that is maintained, at a Spyder price is fantastic news."

The Custom Pro IS different from the M98 Custom. I don't know all the details, but the E-Kit for the Custom Pro will NOT fit in the Model 98 Custom - so something changed besides the name plate.
The eBolt did not sell very well because of the price. It was more expensive than the gun itself. However, the E-Grip for the A5 sold like crazy.
Tippmann wanted to make an E-Grip for the M98 because they could actually sell those. Apparently, people wanted an electronic Tippmann, they just weren't willing to spend over $200 to buy the kit. Now, they have a new Custom that accepts a new E-Kit. Just like the old Model 98s didn't have easy double trigger kits or RT kits so they made the Custom.
It's a step forward that Tippmann didn't HAVE to make. I still sell more Model 98s than any other marker so I don't think their sales are hurting. They just decided it was time to improve on something that's already good.
If the rumor mill is true, they are ALSO coming out with an entirely new marker but you'll have to wait a little longer for that.

As long as something has changed in the actual gun, then it's a little easier for me to swallow.
However, unless there is something more significant than having an E-Kit available, I still feel the same.
But I'm trying not to diss it to hard until I hear all the new features.
Like I said before, it's actually a decent value. I just thought Tippmann was more the type of company that ran on word of mouth, rather than marketing hype and "making a splash."

What new player wants to buy a gun he will have to upgrade to stay competetive. In his mind. High ROF= Gun prowess. They put out a gun that a newb can buy and be comfortable with for a while without dumping more money into more upgrades. I dont think i really see a problem with that. But i was hoping for a whole new model...

^Well, from what everyone "in the know" saying there still is a new gun on the horizon...I'm looking forward to it.
I see the market share they are trying to take over and how that is good for everybody, and I'm happy for Tippmann....but it doesn't make me proud.

Anyone have any recent news on Tippmann's customer service? I haven't heard anything bu a couple isolated bad reports lately, so I'm wondering if things have gone downhill or what.
