Hey sorry about the desperation but I need a quick answer on this.

I need to know if on/off valves are true valves and just block air flow, or activate/deactivate the safety pin on the tanks to allow gas flow, or if it depends on which one I get.

I'm having a bit of trouble with my universal drop... the ASA on it sucks, and I can only use nitro tanks with the quick fill, because screwing a tank into the ASA is impossible (it activates the safety pin waaaayyyyy to early).  I'm going to replace the duck bill ASA with an On/Off most likely, or get the Smart Parts On/Off.

Again... I need to know if on/off valves are true valves and just block air flow, or activate/deactivate the safety pin on the tanks to allow gas flow, or if it depends on which one I get.

Thanks in advance.

I've been looking for an on/off for a project that actually controls the airflow when it is turned on or off as opposed to just opening/closing the pin valve on the tank, so I've looked at quite a few on/offs.  So far, I haven't found any that do what I need.  I ended up using a brass plumbing valve as a temporary solution until I do.  So my answer would be that most of them just activate the tank valve and you should do a "hands-on" check when buying.  Good luck.

It really depends on which on/off you get... some on/offs will depress
the pin valve to allow air into the gun, others will stop air flow from
entering the gun while keeping the pin valve depressed....

Which on/off are you getting?? I've got a Smart Parts on/off on my A-5
and it works great for me.

Thanks guys.  I went to my local proshop and picked up a Check It On/Off which solved my problem perfectly, but activiating/deactivating the pin valve.  Attached it last night and just tried it out a few minutes ago, works great.
