Acually they make good armour for knuckles and fingers. But for anywhere else its just too heavy.

Not necessarily. If you put cloth over it then the jagged edges would be eliminated.

someone actually asked the same question sometime last year....this thread will get the same results and jus to let you know....it takes a wuss to wear body armor while paintballing, be a real man, jus wear a long sleeve shirt or jersey.

How heavy do you think it would weigh if you just made a tank-top style chainmail vest? like dont make a neck gaurd(sp?), arms, or the sides. so it would look like a chemlar(sp?) vest with wide shoulders.

would chainmail gloves realy be a good idea? i mean even if you left the fingers off, couldnt it scratch your gun or make moving your hands hard?

I could see people where chainmail gloves because they look cool...but I find no other use for them in paintball.

what would you need chainmail for? i mean unless you start getting yourself lit up at 10 feet is it really nesecary?

Why would you want armor. I have worn a vest like chainmail suit thing, and it was heavy. I don't use armor because it is fun to show others that don't play paintball the wilts you can get.

Actually, there's already a company marketing this; at least they make neck and groin protection from chain (actually ring) mail.  The link is below.

Put a bunch of quarters in a bag then shake em around--Doesn't make it any quieter.  The chain mail would still clink together under the shirt.

And the idea of it breaking the balls more easily is based on the fact that this armour would be made of metal.  Metal is hard, which means more breaks--It having jagged edges was not the main point.

allow me to answer. if you're afraid of a sting you're in the wrong sport.

chain mail is more something you should use in a swordfight.

its would kinda look cool as gloves but if u want to use it for a chest protecter,u shouldnt be playin p-ball,cause it just shows how afraid u are to get shot

I've made chainmaille for awhile, I can tell you it would offer no bounce or give to a paintball that hits it.
Your typical indoor body armor is a neoprene type of garment meant to absorb much of the shock and take out the sting of getting hit.

I don't recommend you try to use this type of accoutrement for paintball. It can be very expensive to make (unless you are making the links yourself ) out of some mild steel. But if you would like to try your hand at making chainmaille I buy my stainless steel links from below. I prefer the number 6's. Again its very expensive to make any type of garment as you will use hundreds if not thousands of links depending on what you are making. My suggestion is to learn how to make maille and then first make your own links. There are alot of informative sites online about this.

Like Ive said many times....wearing paintball armor (neoprene) is for wussies who cant stand gettin hit and having welts...in that case, youre definitely in the wrong sport....join a chess or checkers club and leave the paintballing to the people who really enjoy in receiving and giving welts!

I personaly would wear the gloves, because where I play, we play very close range (sometimes under 5 feet) and we play hot.

So yeah, Id rather wear some metal on my hands than a broken hand.

I wear gloves too and knee pads as well but, Im not afraid to recieve ball hits on my chest or any where on my upper body...only the weak wear body armor, unless were all using real bullets....then I would wear body armor (the real ones).

am I the only one picturing how stupid this idea is? All I see is some kids tip toeing around in some huge chain mail armor like a handicap lost at a renaissance festival.

Too heavy, bulky and noisy. Also, the increased break % would not be worth the protection. If you really want padding, just buy a protector.

look its that easy no armor is better!!! easyer to move less heavy....

and the goal of the game is not getting hit so if your to slow to get your @$$ out of  way and have to wear armor caus it hurts well you shouldent play paintball sonny!!!

Sheesh.....The only protect a player needs to have some fun under the sun while gettin pelted wit paintballs....a mask, gloves, knee pads, elbow pads (optional) and a cup (optional), wearing any kind of body armor for paintball doesnt make that person become a better player.

if you're a wuss, then wear armor. the chainmail is full of hard points on which paint will break way too easy, as stated above. plus, a good shirt of chainmail weighs in at about 25 lbs. so, if you wanna train for the track team, and wanna build your legs, then by all means, do it. but otherwise, i say no.

like usafpilot07 said, if your giong to go with armor than get something dye or any armor meant for paintball, with chainmail (which i have never worn) i would guess that you would have to wear a chirt underneath and your saying that you would put a shirt over it, I would think that wearing 3 layers would get really hot and especially since summer is comin up you'll be dying out there

How many times do you guys have to reiterate "not to wear
chainmail" to convince him? Dudes, if Garnsh Ghst wants
to play with mail, by all means let him find out for
himself the hazards. Who knows? It might help him
become a paintball MVP.

I've never considered a cup optional.
