Laptops. I have always wondered if there was a chord that youc ould plug into your cell phone and then the other end goes into the 56k jack so that you can surf the net via your cell phone line. I figured someone would have come up with this for traveling purposes, but so far all I have seen is a slightly bigger cell phone with a mini keyboard and a 3'' screen. Anyone know if something like this exists and where to get one if it does?

I've heard of it...I think.

Actually, I don't know if it even came out yet but they were talking about being able to use google on your cell to find better prices for when your shopping and stuff.

no no, not something ON your cell, something to TAKE UP your cell. Back in the day with 56k modems you had to take up your phone line. Well, honestly, I wouldn't mind using up my cell for internet purposes on my computer at all.

There is something like that I think.  There was some way you could plug your laptop into your cell and get internet access if I remember correctly.  There are also portable modems like cell phones you could use for internet access.

There are a variety.  Most cell providers offer data plans on their cell phones, which usually allow you to use your Bluetooth laptop to connect to the internet through your Bluetooth phone.  If your phone doesn't have Bluetooth, check with your provider for a cable.

If you don't want to use a data plan, SnapDialer from http://www.FutureDial.com - www.FutureDial.com allows you to connect your phone to your laptop using a cable, and then use regular voice minutes for data.  This is what I use in airports and whatnot.  Kind of a pain to set up, and not cheap, but works quite well.  Also available from Radio Shack.

Keep in mind, of course, that none of these will be fast.  They will be slower than your 56k.  Sufficient for minimal surfing, but pretty brutal for serious foruming, for instance.

Good luck.

If your phone doesn't have bluetooth just get an adapter.  I thought you could surf the web on your phone.  I can lol its just slow as crap.  And if you have your laptop in front of you why would you want to surf the web on your phone anyways?

I think you totally missed the point....
We're talking about using your cell to get 56k access on your laptop, if it doesnt have access to a landline/ wireless.

I like cell phones because they call them "Handies" in Germany.  For some reason, the word "Handy" is funny...

The other thing is that, where there is WiFi your laptop should be able to connect to the internet if it has wireless net, bluetooth is mainly for your cell andpdato surf the net not Laptops, but most now that come with bluetooth come with WiFi, which means where there is a networ wireless connection there is internet...

I love my laptop and wireless internet, i am sitting on my couch in thew basement right now

You can get a sattelite phone and hook it up to your laptop and get internet. They did it on that Tactical to Practical on the History Channel with Hunter Ellis.

They do have them, I have one of the cables. They sell them on ebay, it plugs into your usb port. I got one to transfer data off my phone but you can also use it as a modem. I thought of that idea a long time ago, I remember telling my mom they should do it when I was in fourth grade. Great minds think alike.
