Im interested, but I do not at all want to play at night. Paintball at night is worthless unless you have night vision. But Ill probaly end up going since they did Stalingrad so well, Ill just not play at all at night, or play a few hours then. What fields do they use at night? Anything lighted? I know the Tippmann Castle is, but still not enough for useable vision. I may make it.

I went last year and it was amazing,    and there is no harm in skipping the night fighting,   especially if you dont have night vision like the most of us.   I cant wait to go again

see you all there

Last year was my best paintballin experience ever at D-Day....don't worry about the night fighting, they close most fields and stop all fighting at around 2 and start back up around 7 or 8 in the morning.  The night fighting was probably my favorite part of the whole thing, fireworks, mass confusion, balls coming from everywhere...whats better than that?

probably nothing^.do you guys go to the campground,go home or just sleep up against a tree at skirmish?

I would advise you to pitch a tent and then you can chill there, some food is a good idea too, basically you will need to sleep, refill and just chill out so claim your land and pitch a tent...

^ Its actualy $100 a case plus tax. If you have 12 people it will be $72. And if your caught with your own paint they will kick you out. Its easily over a $200 day.

BY the way, I dont think Im going to make it. Vacation.

Depends:where and what type of game(I only play woodsball)

Posted By: mod98commando
Date Posted: 08 May 2005 at 4:43pm
It can't really be categorized as woodsball or speedball because it can really turn into either one. A scenario game can turn into anything because it's spread out over a large field with hundreds or thousands of players. It's almost always out in the woods but if everybody bunches up it could turn into more of a speedball match in the woods. Anything can happen and eliminations don't really matter which is why I love scenarios. You win by accumulating points so there is a more strategic twist to the game instead of just plain elimination or capture the flag. Scenarios are a lot of fun and I highly recommend them to people that are into woodsball. If you really only like speedball then scenarios might not be for you since they almost always take place in the woods and you don't get consistent speedball-type action. I like both speedball and woodsball so scenarios are heaven for me.

so who's going

- I am definitely going and it is the best scenerio game EVER!!!!!!!
What fields do they use at night? Anything lighted?

-They use the woods all day and all night. Nothing lighted. Night vision is the best. I usually play and go back in one more time after its dark for fun. But the its time to kick back after.

fireworks, mass confusion, balls coming from everywhere...whats better than that?

-Nothing is better then that. it adds a scary element. Turn on a flash light and get lit up. Pretty off the meat. Now if you could find a way to shoot a bright light in every direction youd be unstopable mwa hahah

do you guys go to the campground,go home or just sleep up against a tree at skirmish?

- Definitely get to camp there for free. So nice when filling up paint or getting a snack. there is plenty of room and its alot of fun.

with 2700 people last year how bad was it to park? what were the lines like for air, paint and food? also how does d-day run?

-Parking was cake. Plenty of room. A little hard to find though. The main Skirmish building is a little bit aways from where the main field and camping grounds are. We showed up last year and didnt know where the camp grounds were. Luckily they left a note (I swear) on the door (well flyers actually) on how to get to the camp grounds. I am glad they did that. I hope they do it again next year. The lines for air were fine if you have compressed air. CO2 was a pain in the neck. Youd have to go far away. Maybe this year they will do the smart thing and put the two next to each other. Man getting CO2 was a pain for some. Luckily I got to use compressed air. Lines for food were just fine also. I never had to wait for food. You can get more info on the game at Skirmish.com

Things aren't looking good for me, sadly. Money is scarce now (especially after i get my custom pro ) since my job sucks beyond belief and the friends I planned on going with are now going on vacation just before the game. If I can't find anybody else to go with then I'm just not gonna bother. A game like that is something you have to bring a friend to otherwise it's not the same.

It sounds like fun. But the prices are ridiculous. $99 a box of paint? no byop? just a little ridiculous. I must be cheap because I wouldnt spend that much on paint. and i shoot two boxes when i play in a couple hours...

Posted By: mod98commando
Date Posted: 11 May 2005 at 3:37pm
No, you're not being cheap, $100/case is outrageous. If you buy with a bunch of people and get like 12 cases then it comes down to $75/case though which is still too high but it's much better. You might want to cut down on your paint usage anyway, more than 2 cases in a few hours is quite a large amount. I don't think I've used more than a case (or even an entire case for that matter) in a 7-8 hour day at the field in years. I only use about 1.5-2 cases at a scenario. You must be an animal out there .

Yeah, 1 case is enough. I bought 2 for the 2003 D-Day (I had just gotten my e-grip and wanted to MG) but I didn't use it all.

I'll probably be there. Haven't missed one yet.

Mod98: I'm probably gonna be goin' on this one without a group. If there is a group it'll be my soon to be gf's friends from BU. You can hang with us if you want. Havin' no one there to see you kick ass sucks. Much more fun with friends/ witnesses. I think I'm goin' Americans this year.

Date Posted: 12 May 2005 at 3:45pm
SchoolU101, I'd be glad to meet you out there and join your group. I'm most likely going to be American again. I'd like to be on the german side but the beach is too tempting for me, I have to storm it . I'm sure the germans go through more ammo anyway since we keep reinserting right in front of them. How many do you think you'll have in your group? I want to form a group of about 10-20 people and just keep running missions if it's possible. If we stick together and work closely we'll be unstoppable. Every time I do something like this or see it done the effects are devastating for the enemy. When I find out if I'm definitely going I'll post something and we'll figure out how to meet up.

Mod98commando,

Last D-Day I brought 16 people with me. I've run a few groups to other games since then, but I can't take that anymore. I really don't know what's gonna happen in terms of numbers, but unlike most, I am willing to work. Everytime I try to rally people on a mission the responses are always the same "Nah...I'm just gonna hold down the fort here" or "I'm not carrying any ammo crates" or "yeah, just a sec..........." Know what I mean?

I'm not gonna have a group this time, but no matter what happens I'm game for team work. An organized group really does devistate everything. I'm sure we'll be able to find a few good guys in the field if our group isn't big enough.

Like your's, my plans aren't clear. I'm gonna be going to Frontier Wars at EMR just 2 weeks before D-Day. That should be good. Once things get more solid, we'll get in touch.

hellz yea im going with like 8 other people, and theyre actually expectin bout 3000+ people this year. the only thing that sucks is the paint prices. its pretty stupid...no byop.    and does anyone know the ways of elimination, like how many times can you be shot before youre out

-------------

Posted By: mod98commando
Date Posted: 22 May 2005 at 1:19pm
You are out after being hit once but can be healed up to 3 times by a ref/medic unless it's a head shot. Gun shots don't count. If you're hit, you have to walk back to the reinsertion point which has always been by the beach for Allies and I think the Germans are inserted fairly close to there too. You can find out more at http://www.skirmish.com - www.skirmish.com .

My last couple friends that intended to go with me bailed on me now so at the moment I'm not going anymore . However, these 2 kids I know from school said they'll be going so I might be able to join them. Seems like this always ends up happening to me before a scenario.

Nope, you can't be knocked out of the whole game. Once you start playing, you can be healed 3 times before you have to leave the field. At that point you wait at the reinsertion point until the ref lets you back in. I think insertions are every 30 minutes. When you are reinserted you start over again and can be healed up to 3 times unless you get a headshot. That cycle repeats until the game ends. The longest you can be out of the game for is 30 minutes.

i am also definitely going, the beach is freaking awsome. last year it took a couple of hours to take. i was in the higgins boat, first row, first wave, there were about thirty people in the boat, i got to a bunker and there were less than a dozen of us left, it was so intense. so if you see a guy with a little tag on his visor that says ZombieAtak, say hi, it will be just me and my little brother in our group so it would be cool to hook up with some people who want to run missions.

Yep, and that's quite an achievement. I think the reason we lost was because we weren't as organized as the germans. They always seemed to be in large groups and aware of their mission while our team was more scattered and kind of drifting around the field in small or medium sized groups. For that reason, they killed us in quite a few battles but we did have our moments where we had them running. The final battle was beyond epic though. I was on the allied front lines for that and all I have to say is HOLY CRAP. The only battle bigger than that was the beach itself and I don't think even that was as intense. I was up front doin some damage but I ran out of ammo so I went to the rest area (little cube of netting in the middle of the field) so I could watch the battle until the game ended and it was amazing. I couldn't believe they were able to advance so far since they were all bunched up and out in the open. All our side had to do was fire blindly into the crowd and they'd hit a dozen people easily yet they ran like a bunch of little girls. I was among the few who stayed until we were taken out by the germans or a lack of ammo and if everybody played like that, we wouldn't have had a problem holding the line. It was still a great firefight though, I wish I had a camera for that. Hopefully I'll be able to return next year to do it all again .

hahahaha man were u with those dudes who linked up with the 101st and attacked the hood at that massive battle, i was defending it lol

we were chased through the woods with about 50 guys and we charged the city right after u took it, haha we are sneaky bastards.

And then we owned all the alies and captured the beach sunday, i led the final charge that failed during the last 2 minutes of the game i got shot about 92 times....

oh and i got shot with a FLAME THROWER... i mean wtf? i lobed a grenade at him and then got shot up, their was a battel as large as the one on the beach going on in the woods with a similar line. I was on the front of the middle flank supportine the german movements both to the left and right of us, it was fricken crazy. I loved every time the allies brought a tank out we destroyed it the minute it got their. Germans owned that beach, twice!

were their any germans defending the pentagon or in the woods when they came across about 7 unarmed allies?

well i was one of them and let me tell you that was the most fun of the whole Dday and it was so funny to watch the german reaction. It all started when our friend who made his first trip to skirmish that day didnt come back to the tent for some 2 hours. we set off on a mission called Saving private Trevor. this mission consisted of us running through the woods with no guns looking for trevor who turned out to be at our other friends camp site some where else. Either way, i had both an american and german ID tag so i was able to lead my group of unarmed americans right into german base defence. we told them we were allied and they had no idea what we were doing.......who would run around the woods with no guns when 3 thosand others with guns hunting people down? We walked up to the pentagon and got fired at and just ran around laughing. We met up with a German inseretion and conviced them we were germans and led an assination on tyrell and his forces. The assination attempt was a success and it was all done with allied forces without guns. Id have to say that saving private trevor mission was the most fun because everybody was so confused at what we were doing and it was so much fun just running around showing the german ID to the germans and then Allied ID to the allies when we came across them. No one knew who we were or what the hell we were doing. Id love to hear a germans response to us if they encountered us so post back if you are one.

Lol, that's crazy. Did you happen to catch Saving Private Trevor on tape? That would definitely be an interesting addition to the DVD . I was walking off the field when that whole beach madness was going on. I went on the Allied mission to take the hood and when our force fizzled out, the group I was with ended up stranded and surrounded by Germans. Oddly enough, I was out of ammo anyway so I headed out. When I saw that monstrous battle going on I was like "Oh crap, I have to join that." I saw nearly all of both teams goin at it across the beach and a ran back to the car to get ammo because I knew our base was gonna be german soon if they didn't get every available player.

When I got there, we were kind of stuck at the middle of the beach and I made it up to the front lines (under ungodly amounts of fire) and then eventually ran out of ammo again. I tried to create a diversion as I ran out so people could shoot the germans as they tried to hit me but that didn't do much. When I got back, the germans pretty much had the beach and were almost on our insertion point. All that was left was the woods and that was slowly falling too. I jumped back in as quick as I could and got right back up front and in the action but nobody would stay up there with me. Either I'm crazy or everybody else has a severe lack of balls because my teammates were running away when I was thinking of moving up a little. I think with some more daring players we could have held our ground much better and maybe even turned the battle around. There wasn't really much strategy behind the attack, it was just a massive wave of people thrown at us so all we had to do was dig in and mow people down which is what I did until I ran out of ammo. I would have loved to stay in until the whistle blew but I was out of ammo and the germans were only about 20 feet away at that point so I was doomed anyway. The 5 minutes or so that I watched was incredible though, that was an awesome battle.

I'm anxious to see the DVD though. I think I heard that it was about 1.5 hours long so that should be interesting. I'd like to see what the beach invasion looked like from their point of view too. I wonder what they filled all that extra time with since the invasion only lasted 20 somethin minutes.

Yo I was with them!!! You guys beat the crap out of us when u first stormed the hood then we met up with some germans who survived the beach assault, and attacked the hood surrounded on 3 sides, then we gained reinforcements at an insertion and scattered the allies behind un in the woods, that was so great when it started to downpour while we were being hunted down in the damned jungle, oh so great.

And they were showing a video of the beach assault saturday night, hahaha remember when that fire broke out and everyone either thought it was a prop or just ignored it, lol that happened twice on the beach.

Lmao, there's always at least one fire at d-day, I've learned that in the past few years. That little downpour while we were playing sucked so bad cause I got water inside my mask and it got on my lens which completely crapped on my visibility. I pretty much had to play with the paintball version of beer goggles on and, needless to say, that was not easy at all. On top of that, I was the pointman/navigator of my group which dwindled down to the 2 kids I came with eventually. We intercepted a german squad on a mission but were severely outgunned and a wandering group of germans ended up right on our escape route so we got destroyed, lol. We were gonna let the group pass but one guy saw us and told the others. If the other kids that were with us listened to me and followed us through the woods then we could've done some serious damage and possibly made you guys fail that mission.

yeah this year was fun, only americans were mostly made up of 7 yearolds...that a pretty ferocious army right? A lot of people just hid behind bunkers on the beach while the germans were contsantly chargeing. I made my own fun, saving private trevor, going in the game as a German (american spy), schooling tyrell, and just being with your friends.
