hey, learn to spell.... and yes there is sniping in paintball
A shot, especially a gunshot, from a concealed place.
^^^^from dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sniping - http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=sniping
personally i think sniping isnt always long range but more of a precise shot and a good aim there is no long distance in paintball unless u want to arch paint, pretty much

The word "accurate" does not fit in with any description of a shot made in paintball gun.

Get a paintball gun to do that and sure.
The fact remains paintball guns are HORRIBLY unaccurate.

only a idiot will look up a Lethal Action in the dictionary.
Snipers in paintball... i know I wanna say "Yes" but, its the fact that
even with a Flatline a paintball will only travel 250ft, when a "true"
sniper round will travel for miles....
I will belive there are Snipers, when Elfs come poping out of my pants though...

Think about this. A military sniper takes out targets both hard and soft from almost unbelievably long distances. A paintball "sniper" might take out a target at MAYBE 250 feet at a maximum. And that is IF the ball breaks on the target. This length is LAUGHABLE in terms of a person being a sniper. If you are laying in the grass with a ghille suit on and sitting there doing your tom barniger mantra you need to grow up. You arent a sniper, no matter what you think. Here is another example. A good sniper in optimal weather with a large 50 caliber big boy gun, can hit a target with certainty at about 600 meters. An exeptional sniper can hit a target at still greater distances, an elite sniper, is capable of shooting a soft target with a center mass hit at up to a mile and a half. You cant compare you shooting your flatline across a feild from prone position to a sniper.
I know im going to hear "Oh well thats the MILITARY deffinition" I dont care, the two are not able to be compared. Anyone in paintball can shoot that way, for a sniper to be made and cultivated it takes training, training, training. Nothing you would learn going to the feilds every saturday in your guille suit.
No snipers in paintball. Too bad, cry about it.(Kelsey )

What if they were comparing to police snipers? They often make shots less than a few hundred feet..

They go to the same sniping school.(There are two in the US) They can make the same long distance shots. They can draw a circle on a sheet of paper and hit it consistantly at 500 feet. Paintballs dont do this physicaly they will not behave consistantly as they fly through the air.

Most non-speedball players try for accurate shots, from a concealed position. Therefore, everyone not running around in neon pajamas is a sniper.
But the source of the word, originally is someone that can rapidly take aim and fire, eliminating his target in one shot, therefore, every speedball player is, or tries to be a sniper.
Point is, if you look at different definitions, then yes, everyone playing paintball, is a sniper.
Reality, no, there is no sniper in paintball, atleast by movie standards which is most likely the idea you are using.
If you ask someone in the military, no, someone playing paintball is not a sniper.

There are more then two in the US.
My soon to be stepfathers brother trains at the school in the wash/maryland/VA area, and he also flies out to alaska to train people there on occasion.

I was refering to the two army and marine corps sniping schools. But kids say this like they are the only ones that do this. Its like OS said. "So everyone else runs around with a full brass band" something to that effect. They arent snipers, just campers.

According to Action Persuit Gamers magazine, there are snipers in paintball.
I'll pop by the second hand shop and buy one if it's still there and show the article.
I agree with people that there aren't any military grade snipers in paintball.
I also hold that none of the weapons in Paintball are of military grade, so you need to scale things down a bit.
If you shoot from concealment, not cover, and you can make relatively long ranged shots with accuracy, then why not let people call themselves snipers?
It is a word found in common English that can be looked up in a dicitonary. The police and the military have not trade marked nor copy righted it, so anyone can use it for any use that is fitting with the dictionary definition.
Personally I think that if people want to use a military term they should use marksman, but to each their own.
