Try some penetrating oil first. Put it on a bunch of times from all angles and let sit for a day, then try it. Two strap wrenches will help if you need to really rank on it. If you have to use excessive force there is a good chance you already have or will ruin the threads so take it slow and easy.

get 2 stap wrenches and use mussle. make sure your twisting it the right way

and you dont need to buy a new kit. if its realy stuck you can get a new tip and back

Do you know somthing I'm not aware of? He will probably need something to lessen the friction between the two pieces and help loosen them. Even if an o-ring is involved He will want to soften it ,especially if its shredded and in the threads. Penitrating oil will not harm the barrel in any way.

how much are strap wrenches?  I've seen them advertised, but that was a long time ago.  How much would a new front and back go for?  I also have a back that has messed up threads, but it wouldn't be a problem to fix.  Thanx for the feedback.
