I know this is a stupid question but, could I take a phone like in the link below, which says it's carrier is AT&T wireless and change it to Verizon if I bought it?  (Because me family's plan is Verizon, and I would like a picture phone)

Read below it, It says check to see if your carrier accepts the phone, and leaves a list of numbers.

What I was really asking is if it was a real pain to get it switched, and if there was a fee in doing so.

to simply put this...no you can not...it is only compatible with att...that option to check for providers means if there is att coverage in your area

All phones have the ability to be programmed for the mode required. TDMA, CDMA, GSM, whatever. I am not sure how complicated the procedure is. Bottom line is that if it is not already programmed for your desired service it would probably cost more to change it than to buy the right phone in the first place.

Don't buy a phone unless it is set up for the right service.

I was at the Cingular place today and the guy told me if you find a phone that only a different service has and you like your current one, you can take it to a multi phone shop and they can change the settings of it so it can accept sim cards from all providers. And it's only like 20 bucks..

All you have to do is unlock the phone and then get a sim card from verizon and your good to go.  Dont get an ericsson.  I had a T637 which is better than that one.  It sucked.  But then again the ericsson is real easy to switch service providers since it isn't locked from the factory.  Or at least mine wasn't.  Cingular phones are a pain to unlock.  Any GSM phone will work with any GSM provider.  My old N-Gage was originaly an AT&T phone but since it was unlock and a GSM phone I just slipped my Suncom sim card in there and it worked just fine.  I just can't remember off of the top of my head if verizon uses GSM or not.

it should be able to. just buy it and take it to verizon and have them flash it for you, but most importantly ask them if they could first because this only works with certain phones

Why would you buy a phone off ebay anyways? How much is
at regular cost?

They can't flash it over to you if it doesn't have a sim card in it.  Besides the only thing that can be sent to you is say the Inet settings, Email settings, and simple stuff.  You first figure out what kinda of phones Verizon has i.e. tmda, gsm...  And buy an unlocked version of it off of ebay or wherever, throw in the sim card and BAM a working camera phone that wasn't suppose to to be verizon in the first place.   And if your going to go thru the little hassle be sure to by a high dollar motorola phone.  From my experiance they have real good cameras and play pretty good video too.
