Recently quit my job at subway and probably one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life. My manager was the worst supervisor ever. I never got a schedual, and I had been working there for two months! I asked him for one almost ever time I would work and he would never give me a straight answer. He would call me in to work anywhere from an hour to 10 minutes in advance, which is completely rediculous, so I told him if he wanted me to keep doing that he would have to give me a raise for being on-call or I would quit. Since I can be easily replaced by some kid who thinks subway is the easiest job in the world, I chose to quit and could never be happier. Sure, I don't get any more money, but it wasn't worth getting 7.00 an hour while being the "on call" guy for 3 subway stores. Just had to say that to someone.

minimum wage is going up soon to 7.00. and i got 7.00 because i was always on time for work and wearing my uniform. if i messed up once i'd get 6.75.

also on an off note, my supervisor lets employees have a 10 minute break every 6 hours of work. I went through all of my reciepts that say the total time i worked. almost all of them came up as follows:

5.5 hours
5.8 hours
5.6 hours
5.9 hours
5.5 hours

he had me working just under 6 hours so technically i couldn't take a break

hes basically the Mr. Krabs of subway

LMAO

Min wage better not go up to $7.00 an hour.  Do you know what that would do the the price of everything else?!?!?!   blah never quite and make a big scene.  your going to have to tell every new job you get about the old job you had.  It will mess things up in the future if you do that.  Just give the nice 2 week notice and keep doing a great job.  Thats the only way to ensure he'll give a good report to your next boss when you try and get hired.

Exactly.  2 Weeks notice is only for if the boss is a friend of the family, or you dont want to burn up any bridges.

I almost quit on the spot last night, I was pretty pissed.
The story goes: payday was today, my check was missing an entire shift, that's 3 unpaid shifts in the last month. (On my check to make up for this, there may be a few hours, to pay for my uh, pain and suffering.)
My spring break vacation request (made 2 weeks in advance, per rules) was cut from the 4 days like I asked, down to 2 days. 2 DAYS.

I GUESS that was understandable, barely.

The rest of the story goes: I have to take a dump, so I turn off my light and let a manager know where I'm going. Mid-dump, I hear "Tyler to Register 2 please." I was like... what the hell. So I finish up, and hurry back to my register, because I figure we have a rush of people.
Everyone ELSE doesn't have a rush of people, but some ass lined people up at my register. These people look angry, mostly because they've been waiting the better part of 5 minutes.

I told my manager: "If you ever do that again, I'm quitting."

Im happy and content at McDonalds.

Oh, and Florida's min. wage goes up in April to $6.15, and becuase I get paid over minimum right now it will go up to, so next month I will be making $6.75 an hour, and if I get a raise I was promiced I will get 7 bucks.

I quit my delivery job at Little Caesar's with no notice. My friend worked there too. I was opening that day, and he was closing, but we wanted to play golf, so we quit that morning, clubs in hand. We were going to quit anyway, but it was more fun to give them the impression that they mattered that little to us.

For the kids who they say they want a job, wait until you're 16ish. No one wants to work with 15 year olds because they have a bunch of labor limitations that are annoying. Plus once you get into the routine of having a part time job the fun is gone.

Blah burning bridges is bad.  But I guess for part time work it doesn't really matter.  I could screw alot of people out of money workin supply on post but what happens that one day I need them for something?  Hopefully you'll never need or see your ex boss ever again if you up and quit dramatically.

Well, I've been making $6.00 an hour since about October... and before that $5.50 since May.
I get no breaks (other than a possible smoke break if the owner isn't there, and I work an 8 hour shift normally).

The only reason I'm still there is because I have seniority over almost everyone (pretty bad since I've only been there about 14 months), and I have pretty flexible hours.
I can't quit because I have insurance/gas to pay for.

I made a schedule request to have Friday and Saturday off.

Now those are the only days they have me working this week.

Guess I'm not going to Cleveland.

Try NOT to get a job on the weekend. I have a stupid paintball job on the weekends. I have no fun on the weekends with my friends anymore. It sucks. Work during the week, you will work more than just 2 days and get payed more money.

Having a crappy job and or working for a pain in the butt boss is better then being broke- many times better in fact. Unfortunately many in the younger generation operate under the mistaken assumption jobs and bosses should fit there ideals, schedules, wants or needs. LOL, my we have alot of growing up to do.

I'm somewhat lucky in that my boss partially understands when I need time off.
When bosses hire teenagers, they have to recognize that teenagers have responsibilities at school, at home, and socially as well as at work.
It's give-and-take. Hire a teenager for $5.50/hour and be somewhat flexible with them, or hire an adult and pay $7+/hour.

Like I said, I'm lucky because if I say, "Dave, I need next week off because I have golf tournaments for school every day," he'll give me the time off.
Bosses that try to make teens have the exact same responsibilities as adults, and still make far less money are the ones that usually end up going through employees like they're water.

Haha. They dont need to schedule around other responsiblities, they just need to find workers that dont have them.

You cant always have your cake and eat it too. You are very lucky to have a boss willing to work around your life. Most dont.

It it the bosses job to keep the business running not to run a daycare with beniefts.

If the boss wants to have decent employees, it's not their responsibility, but it's in their best interest to work with people some.
For example, I get Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights off for church/youth group. I think that's a completely reasonable thing, and my boss agrees.

Sure, they can find someone with no responsibilities... But in my experience, those people are NOT the people you want to have working for/with you. If they don't have any responsibilities, they often don't handle the responsibility of a job very well.
I've seen a LOT of people come and go from the restaurant I work at. The ones who stay have typically been the ones who are at least decent in school, and do some form of extra-curricular activity.

I may ask for time off, but I'm also there if my boss ever needs me to come in and work someone elses shift. While there, I do a good job, do what I'm told, and don't backtalk the managers.
They could fire me and get some other person who DOESN'T ask for time off, but it would most likely hurt them in the long run. Same thing with the other younger people there.

If bosses want to keep employees longer than a couple of weeks, it's in their interest to be respectful of their employees' other responsibilities.
