How badly does it hurt to get them pulled out? I might have to
get mine soon. I'm just wondering how bad it really is.

I had mine individually pulled, and I only needed Tylenol for one of them. They gave me gas and then novacaine for the extraction. He got out the pliers and yanked them out. No discomfort really, and they healed quickly.

It depends. On mine, they had to break the bottom teeth to get them out. It wasn't that bad. Just make sure and not dislodge the clots and you will be fine. It took me only a few days to get better. They will tell you no using straws, no pop, no suckers, etc. Follow their advice and you'll be fine.

Alright, this is coming from a dude that had his 2 upper wisdom teeth pulled no more than 2 weeks ago!

There's a HUGE difference...are your wisdom teeth already sticking out of your gums, or are they still under the gums?

As I understand it, if they are still under the gums, you are in for some pain! This is the procedure that makes people's faces swell up...not fun.

Personally, my teeth were already all the way out....they were already pushing my other teeth out of alignment. Anyways, I just smoked a bunch of chronic before I went in to calm my nerves(and if I died I didn't want to go out sober).

They took x-rays one day, and the next I came in to get them pulled.

I was also on nitrous oxide, which calms you down as well, so I was feeling pretty good! They just rubbed some cream on the inside of your mouth to numb it for the shots. Then the dentist gives you the shots.

He said I had "slow nerves", so he gave me a couple extra series of shots....I was super numb.

Then he tells you to close your eyes and "go to sleep", and proceeds to stick some wicked-ass pliars in your mouth and yanks out your tooth like it was a bent nail!

My first one went SUPER-SMOOTH. The second one didn't. I felt the dentist pulling and twisting on my tooth like he didn't even care...you can hear the tooth all cracking and stretching and stuff...it sounds disgusting!

The only thing my dentist told me was to replace the cotton in my mouth after an hour, and then after another hour if those cottns were bloody than put some more. He also said to not try and make them heal faster, just let them clot and heal on their own. He said to avoid bruching them, but that was it....I was ripping the bong like a champ within a few hours.

Also, I don't have any sort of insurance, so it cost me $400 to get both of them pulled, total-total.

Good luck.

It's funny because everybody I talked to said it was gonna really hurt because my teeth were already out.

But when I went, I askded this fine dental assistant if it really hurts more.

She told me that it actually hurts a lot less when your teeth are already out.

I make the "find dental assistant" a requirement in my choice of practitioners. It should be listed as an item on the insurance coverage benefits form.

^Seriously, almost every dentist I've gone to has at least one hot assistant.

This time, there were 2 of them, and I was all flustered!

It's hard to spit game when you've got all kinds of stuff in your mouth.

Personally, I think she was still jocking though...she seen by perfect teeth and knew I was a genetically sound stud.

when i had mine out i had anastisia(sp) ive had alot of bad expearances at the dentists so the more out i am the better. ive had...4 baby teeth pulled, 4 wisdom teeth pulled, and 6 adult teeth pulled.

i had novacain for the 4 baby and that went ok, i had to be knocked out cold for the first set of adult teeth (4), IV sadation for the (4) wisdom and nitris for the last 2 adult.

i liked getting knocked out the best. i freaked out when i just had the nitris. if you breath through your mouth the effects wear off fast.

as for pain it dosent hurt all that bad. 1st day sucks pudding and yogert are your friends, 2nd day is ok agen soft foods. by the 3rd day my dintest wanted me eating solid foods chicken, mabe some hot dogs cut it up small and chew in front.

I though that if they were still under your gums then it wasn't as
bad as if they are already coming out.

Thats exactly what my dentist told me accually.

And Zesty, they are under the gums still.

Hey I get mine taken out tomarrow, all 4.

They are going to knock me out for it though.

2 are impacted, 2 are way up there. They said they have to cut them into sections and pull out the peices. I dont really care what they do as long as they do it right, and I cant feel it.

My girlfriend had hers pulled, and her mouth was swollen for a couple of weeks, and she said it hurt so bad she couldn't talk for about 1.5 weeks (I was kinda nervous when I didn't get a phone call in that time period).
She also had an expander put in, so that may have contributed...

I had my bottom 2 out last year. Both were impacted excessivly. The dentist did a horrible job of numbing me, I felt it all. Make sure you get numbed well. Also, I recommend bieng knocked out during this, you dont want to be awake for it. The dentist had to cut each tooth into 6 pieces, and remove each seperatly.  The pain got so bad, that at one point I passed out, only to be woken up again when he started pulling the second tooth.  Bottom line, if their impacted, your in for a treat...

Who knows, maybe my dentist/dental assistant are wrong, maybe yours are.

But from what I've seen, mine were a lot smoother than anyone else's I;d ever seen, and all theirs were under the gums.

Also, I still need to get the bottom 2 pulled. The dentist said that they were impacted, and I would need to see an oral surgeon for them...I didn't even know what impacted meant!

I guess I'm in for some more pain.

^I'm pretty sure most people have to get them pulled, but I'm sure there are occassions where the wisdom teeth have room and there is no discomfort or shifting of teeth and they don't have to be pulled.

So, did it hurt zesty?  From your essay, you didn't say if they hurt or not?  Or maybe I missed something =).

Haha, I got too distracted when I started thinking of that fine breezey!

Anyways, I would say the pain was pretty bad. From the shots in the roof of your mouth, to the actual pulling of the tooth with pliars, it doesn't feel good!

But personally, I have had a major reconstruction of my right ACL along with a repair of a torn meniscus, and if the recovery from that was a 10, I would say this was a 5 at most....really not too bad at all.

It's more the whole anticipation, the shots in the mouth, the pulling with the pliars, and then all the blood in your mouth for the next day or so....I spit up A LOT of it. The cotton feels kinda weird, but that should be out soon enough.

Also, to give you an idea, when the fine chick asked if I wanted any painkillers, I said I was cool.

Really the only other bad deal was the headaches....IMHO, I think I'm still having them from time to time, but I think that was because of the fact that the left one didn't go that smoothly, my roots were so deep, and my teeth were out of alignment so they are shifting back now.

I also smoked weed since my dentist didn't tell me not to, but a few of my friends told me their dentist told them not to.

Maybe my dentist just sucks, but I would say it went pretty smoothly and the place was professional....my gums are almost totally healed now.

The last thing I will say is, after a day or 2, make sure you rinse out your mouth really good. One side didn't heal as fast because there was a piece of food stuck in the gum...once I knocked it loose it healed in 2 days or so.

Point being, make sure the gums don't have anything down there...it's easy to get stuff stuck down those holes.

They had to cut my gums to get mine out, so I think that helped. If they aren't out, it seems the flaps of gums sewn over the sockets helps them heal ALOT smoother. Don't know for sure, but this is a highly personal deal anyways. Every person is different. Just remember in most cases you should be much better in only a few days. Get dry sockets and from what I understand, you are going to be sad.

Yeah, I think that's really the only common factor....the inside of your mouth heals fast!

It makes sense.

Yep, the tongue and inside of your mouth is the fastest healing part of your body. Because its allways flushed with blood and whatnot.

^I was gonna say t's probably a must in order for us to survive....imagine if your mouth took a month to heal?

Posted By: DBibeau855
Date Posted: 24 March 2005 at 11:34am
It has to be that way, because when we lose a tooth, if it didnt heal so fast, we would be bleeding and unable to eat for a while. It would be prone to infenctions and all that good stuff.
