Macintosh. I dont play games much, so i really dont need the 9 million titles. There are enough games out for the mac to satisfy my need for them though, and many are free.

Never had a problem with my powerbook, i love the thing.

You want to own a Linux?

I use macs at school, I just dont like how there is no right mouse button. The OS is funky, I like windows for its straightfowardness.

If you have windows and a nice firewall/virus scanner, then you wont get hit by viruses. So ha.

My family used a power macintosh for 5 years....

...and we hated it. First off, the system would crash on us unexpectedly for no apparent reason. A little bomb symbol came up, beeped, and made us restart. It wouldn't run some programs it was supposed to and since repair places know nothing about macs, we couldn't get help!

Anyway, we've been much happier with Windows.

Actually, good security is inherent in a unix-based system.

Security all depends on the configuration. Mac users don't have problems because almost no one is going to bother writing code to go after a tiny portion of the machines out there. Windows is the most used OS, so it is going to be bothered the most. Macs aren't uber secure, it is just no one cares to bother with them.

If you have windows and a nice firewall/virus scanner, then you wont get hit by viruses. So ha.

Are you kidding me? Your whole argument is that there is no right click button? You know that ANY USB mouse will work on ANY macintosh, right? That means you can use a mouse with a million buttons and set them all to do whatever you want.

What is wrong with wanting to own a Linux box? My friend uses Debian and is really happy with it. Only thing he didnt like was that it took around 5 days to install, haha.

Please explain to me what is not straightforward about the mac? Open a folder with your stuf in it, double click a file, it opens in the correct program. I bet thats all you do on your computer anyway, not like youre hacking programs to make them better or anything.

While it is true that a firewall will block most DoS attacks and the like, it wont stop people from being dumb. Say they get the MyDoom worm in their email, they open the zip file cause they are morons and will open anything and everything that comes through from someone in their contact list, bam, MyDoom is installed. Unless they realize they have a virus early on before it effects the system, that virus scanner wont pick it up, and even if they scan for it, new viruses or worms may not be found by it.

Your argument sucks.

Do you know how hard it is to crack into a unix system set up properly? Your basic cracker will NOT be able to do it, nor will he want to because of the amount of time it would take. I do agree that there are virtually no worms/viruses for the mac, and this is most likely due to the fact that only 10% or so of the computer users use macs, and even less with linux.

Notice where I said "Security all depends on the configuration"?? My point was that if you install Acme OS out of the box, and think it is secure just because it is based on XYZ, then you are looking for trouble.

If both platforms were equally used worldwide, Mac would totally destroy Windows. Computer for computer, Macs are tremendously better (so is Linux, for that matter) than PCs. Microsoft just has an edge on products and such.

My only problem with Macs is that the interface is different from Windows-style, but that may have been just those machines. I don't know what all OSX can do with interfaces, so that may cause me to get a Mac eventually.

And thank you for correctly distinguishing between Apple and Macintosh.

All of them are pretty good, all of them have their ups and downs.  The only problem with macs that I see is the lack of programs such as games for it.
