Yesterday I got my HPA tank filled agian. And once again it was a hot fill. A hot fill is when they fill it too fast, extreme pressure causes friction, the tank get very warm and says what it should on the gauge (3000psi), then when it cools down the air contracts any you loose up to 1000psi. So anyway they hot filled it and it dropped down to 2200psi and I was pissed. So my idea is, if you were to match the internal tank temperature to that of the hot fill temp, there would be the right amount of pressure in there that the gauge read when it was warm. We could accoplish this using the infamous hand warmers under the tank cover. So today I tested this. I ran the tank under warm water, and enevitably the gauge went back up to 3000psi! This proves thermal expansion can be applied to gaining more pressure that was originaly lost. But I though of only one possible flaw. If the air cools down in your lines or valve, you would probaly loose some pressure after periods of non-shooting where it cools. But wouldnt the pressure thats lost by cooling be instantaniously replaced by the tank supply? This idea is something to ponder. Any objections, flaws, questions, ect.? -------------

| I agree with the math and the fix but I can see blown burst disks in the future from summer hotfills. Also people are too lazy to keep their tank heated unless they have to. I wouldn't heat my tank during the summer, It's hot enough already. I still think it's easier not to get the hot fill in the first place. Overheating during repeated hotfills is proven to cook the fiber wrap and damage the tank. As for your last flaw, Air pressure loss from use or cooling would have to be made up by appling more heat to maintain the same press. |

This probaly is pointless in the warm weather, since the outside temp is around the hot fill temp, and it doesnt drop much. But right now its cold out (around 40*) and my gauge is only going to drop more once I get out there in the cold. So it seems like I will possibly be able to get more shots from more pressure I made up when I play today. Hot fills, and HPA suck in the winter. Even if your tank says 3000psi inside when not hot, it will still drop a significant amount. But this idea help that. I dont know if I would want to heat a fiber wrapped tank, but steel is fine. -------------
