So I'm turning 17 here soon, and after riding home with a few of my
friends who have, what I guess you would call a decent set up, I have
decided to buy my own. (Both of them have one 12" sub, one an alpine,
the other an audiobahn. I'm not sure of the models....) I
don't know to much about car audio, so thats why I asking you
guys. I realize I could go to a car audio place, but the reviews
would be biased and I actually know who is telling the truth on here....
Heres my setup so far (you can change if you like, to what you think is best):
CD/MP3 Reviever : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=62700&I=500CDE9843 - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.as p?g=62700&I=500CDE9843
Sub/Amp Package : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=208250&I=700ALP301 - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.as p?g=208250&I=700ALP301
Box : http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?s=0&cc=01&i=044H6510DE&o=&a= - http://www.crutchfield.com/S-coop3g0N1x7/cgi-bin/ProdView.as p?s=0&cc=01&i=044H6510DE&o=&a=
So I've got $600, roughly to spend, so I'm asking for you guys help.
BTW- I drive an 1998 GMC Sierra Extd. Cab, So the box size shouldn't be
much of a problem. I would show a pic, but my comp got wiped and
my camera dock is missing a wire to transfer pics to the comp.
Edit- Heres an Audiobahn Package :
http://www.thecarstereo.com/product/product_view.php?product=SASZ02108 - http://www.thecarstereo.com/product/product_view.php?product =SASZ02108
And all I would to get is a decent head unit.

For the head unit, get an alpine or a fostgate(i think thats the name) And for your sub, get something with a good name, and vacume sealed.

With my minimal knowledge of car audio, I think I already know to discard what you just said...

Well, go to best buy, and go to their car section, you will see different head units, a good head unit will affect the way your stock speakers perform, in my old car, i got a dinky soni Xplode. And it delped from my stock system. But dont get anything sony, but go with a good head unit, thats the part you put the CD in and all that. That should fix your stock speakers to where you want them, but i again, i dont know what you want. When you start looking for a sub, get something vacume sealed, something nice. There are some products out there, they will just take your money and screw you over and not give you the performace you want. Ask your friends about their set ups, and ask the people at the stores. But ask different stores. And places like best buy and wal mart and other audio places. They have a monthly goal. They get a bonus at the end of the month if they meet this goal. So, ask different stores wich is bet, and do some research on the interet and all that.

I already have a decent head unit, if you checked the link. An
Alpine, and from what I've been told from some people, you can't go
wrong with Alpine.
They told me to stay away from Xploid's.

No, it's what I plan to buy unless someone here suggest's something different.
My friend has a one 12" Subwoofer, and It sounds really good. So
I'm kinding leaning towards Alpine, but like I said, I'm waiting for
anyone to say anything about wether my package is good or if something
else would be better.

Yeah, sounds good, you will be pretty happy with something like that. But make sure you get a good amplifier, you might need a spare battery in the trunk depending on the set up.

I just checked on the forum members page to see if he was on and he wasn't so I'm going to chat to check for him.
Anyone who has an opinion, please post.
Turns out I'm banned, and for what I have done I do not know, but if
anyone from chat notices this, tell Bunkered to check this out.

Please don't tell me you're going to be one of the idiots cruising down
the street with your windows down, volume on 75 and bass all the way up
so you can't hear the song.

Whatever you do, read up as much as you can before buying.
Go to these sites, and find some more...as many as you can.
On these sites, people will tell you that all these name-brand manufacturer's are not worth what they charge, and they are right!
Trust me, read up and you will be happy.

One thing....make the box yourself, or have one of these dudes on the site do it for you. Once you decide what you want, tell them all your gear and hoe you want it to sound...they will make you a box ported to a frequency that will give you the best sound for your tastes.
If you don't want them to make it, they are really nice and I'm sure they would be glad to draw you up some specs so you can make it yourself.

Alright, if you jus want cheap bass that sounds reasonably well, go for some KIcker L7's...they are dirt cheap for the older ones right now(like $250/shipped for 2), and they bass hard.
But if you really want a high-end system, check out some Adire Brahma's or some Resonant Engineering XXX's....I know a 12" Brahma is almost $400, but I've seen them bust a steel plate on the website! Basically, if you get either of these 2 subs, you won't be missing out on anything, and will basically be hitting harder and cleaner than any of your buddies bumping that advertised junk.
For amps, look into Hifonics or US Acustics....the Hifonics Brutus is a good amp for the Adire Brahma and it costs about $200.
So for less than $600 on your sub and amp you could have some actual high-quality stuff.

And what if I do? Maybe it's something I enjoy doing.
To be honest, I listen to everything. From OAR, to Usher, to Metallica, to Lil Jon.

^ if you listen to some of that stuff, I know some underground stuff you may like.
Also, if you have a good system, the bass doesn't drown out the mids and highs....you're just used to hearing crappy systems.
