Hmm, I didn't know Golf clubs had "Models" and "Types".

I guess you learn something new everyday.

Heres a little info on clubs.

There are basically 4 types of clubs :  Woods, Irons, Putters and Wedges.  A Wood is basically for driving the ball from the tee (although an iron could be substituted for this on a shorter hole).  An Iron is more for when you are on the fairway (Basically the area between the tee and the hole), a Putter is for putting the ball in hole and a wedge is basically a specialized iron.

The Numbers in a club indicate the angle the ball will follow.  A 3 Iron would send the ball more straight, while a 5 iron would put it more in the air.

For clubs there are hundreads of brands each with many lines of clubs that have many modals.

Nick, got into paintball due to back issues that won't let me play golf but I still got the hook-ups.

Place called King Par in Flint.  If you want a better price than marked you can meet me at the store.  Big place.  World wide distribution.

Glad to hear you're getting into golf, Nickman.
Taylormade is a nice, solid brand to buy. Just make sure you look at the clubs in person and see if they fit your general height and stance.

If you want a good driver at a low price, you should go to a store called GolfSmith by Great Lakes Crossing (at the golf dome right next to the mall).
Unless you're looking to spend the big bucks, I'd look in the pre-owned section. A good driver is the Titleist 975D (that's what I use, and what Tiger used to use). Since you're new, I'd look at regular-flex shafts, and about 10 degrees of loft (no less, more is OK). More loft on drivers typically means more distance, contrary to what some people will tell you.
Another good brand of driver is Cobra. I have Cobra irons and wedges, and I have used their newer-model drivers. Extremely nice drivers, but they'll probably cost a bit more than the Titleist 975D because they're newer.
The Titleist will probably run you around $75 used (I got mine for $90 with an upgraded shaft), and I THINK you can pick up a used Cobra 300-series driver for around $125 (don't quote me on prices, I'm not 100% sure). That may seem expensive, but compared to the $300-500 for a new, top-of-the-line driver, it's not bad at all. You don't want to screw yourself over with a crappy driver.

As far as wedges go, I personally like Cleveland wedges, but they're too expensive for my highschooler's budget.
Just find something that you like the feel of, and make sure the grooves aren't overly worn out.

Golf is largely a game of skill (as I'm sure you know), but there's only so much you can do if your equipment is crappy. You don't have to spend a fortune, but I wouldn't necessarily jump on something just because it's a good price.

How ironic, I go there with my Grandpa all the time, not only to buy Golf gear, but to use their driving range.

Cleveland Launcher worked very well last time I played it. So did the Titleist. However, you might like teeing off  with one of your fairway woods easier. I actually tee off with my 5 wood. ( And still manage to hit it about 250 yards). It's good to see some more golfers around here. Good luck!

Gotta get great head covers, those greatly improve your game. You can show up in style and walk a mile with brand new head covers!

I have a golf tourny tommorow for school. Cool. I can't hit my driver more than 100 yards!
