I am not biased at all. Keep that in mind.

I think that you should go with the 98 Pro. Mainly because it is much more realible then the Ion. The Ion is made of cheap parts and the solenoid is crap. The Custom Pro is much more reliable and less easier to break.

Also, the Pro w/ E-Grip should be a little cheaper. It already comes with a decent barell and drop forward. The Ion is $300 and has a bit more than the Pro but you lose out on quality.

The Ions are extremely sparse. You will be lucky to find a new one until the end of April.

The only things that I think the Ion beats the Pro on is that the Ion has a built in regulator. The Pro doesn't. That and it is a little bit faster. But even with the 15bps cap, it doesn't matter.

The only problem I see with the Pro is that it has the same body style as the Custom. The body style is to big for speedball. It needs to be more compact and I would like to see them come up with a better more speedball-look for it.

That's just my 2 cent.

No one said the Pro E is faster then the Ion, and if thats all you have for a reason to pick the Ion, sorry but you shouldn't be playing paintball

If your shooting 15 bps max on the Pro, you dont even need eyes at that speed as long as you have an electronic hopper.  Personaly, anything over 10 bps is a waste of paint ....

Comparing ION to 98C pro is like comparing Angel to SL-68

ION- Lighter more compact (I can find cheaper then 220...)

But it's all opinion

ION 90 day warranty

Tippmann 1 year ( more like lifetime   )

I wont buy any marker that only comes with a 90 day warranty. I have played with the ion. Doesnt handle CO2 as described, froze up.... The noid/board configuration is also suspect.  That was with a properly installed anti syphon tube. If it can be sold for $220 that is at dealer cost. Not a price that is for the general public. For the investment I feel that the 98 will be a better overall purchase due to a proven track record of the core marker/parts thats without playing with one yet.

Well if a Tippmann is more reliable and the Pro shoots 10 to 15 balls per sec then why can't it be used for speed ball and woods ball. Other then it looks like a woods ball gun . If people are going by looks then I can think of a lot of ugly speed ball guns. I think it comes down to personal preference. I used to own a Shocker and hated it. I just did not like how it felt in my hands.

I just played in a tourny with my A5 and I did better than many people with very expensive big name electros, the gun means very little. If you have any idea what you're doing out there then you can take whatever gun you like and do some damage with it. I like my A5 a lot so I use it in tournies and I do fine with it. My team wants me to upgrade to something that shoots faster so I can cover lanes better at the break so I am most likely getting a custom pro for that reason but otherwise, the A5 is fine for me. I have to agree with what a few others have said, choose the gun that's more reliable. I have 4 tippmann guns and they always work for me so I trust tippmann to put out a good electro. What makes it even easier for me to trust them here is the fact that they have used most of the parts in the custom pro on other guns. The electronics are very similar to the Egrip from what I hear and the internals are most likely similar if not identical to the ones in the 98 custom. For that reason I feel very strongly that the custom pro will be a solid product worth the $239 you spend on it.

The ion isn't looking that bad but I hear it has a poor quality solenoid which will crap out on you. I have seen tons of electros that come from all these major companies have serious issues due simply to poor manufacturing. My friend has 2 timmies and an angel that he takes good care of yet they still manage to break down on him nearly every time he uses them. When they work, they're great. The problem is that they don't work often enough to be worth so much money. As I said to my friend the other day, winning the lottery is great but how often does that happen? That's why I don't waste my money on those super guns. Not that there aren't any good ones out but so many of them seem to be poorly made and cost you almost as much in repairs after a few years as you paid to get the gun originally. The only electro I plan on ever buying at this point in time is the custom pro unless I hear something very bad about it. So far I've only seen one review out and it was a very good one.
