Hey there everybody, I was wondering if I could save a couple bucks by
buying generic O-rings... You know the kind that don't cost so
much because they are packaged for paintball. If anyone knows a
supplier that has o-rings please let me know. Also, is it ok to use any oil as long as it isn't petroleum based? Thanks |

I doubt it would save you much money. Yes and no, some oils have other compounds in them not fit for the o-rings (like cleaning agents). | They also did their homework and made sure they where odd sizes and diamaters. Tippmann O-ring kits aren't too bad if you shop around. Hoppes #9 oil or marker oil works best. Anything in a spaycan is also a no-no because of the propelant. |

Also, tons of oils have solvents in them to help clean up rust. I'd stick with Hoppe's or a paintball oil. Yes, you can use generic o-rings, but most of them don't last nearly as long. Also, if you can't get the exact size, it might cause problems.

Put some white lithium grease on your old o-rings if they leak, and just always keep some on them. This stuff makes them seal much better, as well as prolongs the life. It also allows you to used lightly scratched up ones. Just stick with Hoppes #9 or other oils made for paintball. -------------

Generic o-rings work fine for rebuilding valves and stuff. Just make sure you get the proper size and durometer.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was just wondering if there was any alternative for buying an o-ring for cheaper. As for the oil, I didn't even realize Hoppes can be bought at a gun store so easily. |
