Ok, i have been playing paintball for a long time now but have yet to buy my own gun. This year i will be buying one tho. At first I was thinking about an Autococker with a nice array of upgrades to go with it. However the whole set will cost me about 2500-3000 for everything i need to play. On the other hand i am thinking about an A5 with some upgrades so that i can do bushball and speedball. I am still torn because the Autococker is a really nice gun....hmmmm....basically i play about 75% bushball and 25% speedball however since il have my own gun i will be able to enter tournaments so that ratio will be leaning a little more heavily on the speedball. Any thoughts as to what i should do?

I have the A-5 and i think it is a really good gun. But on the other hand my friend has an autococker and it shoots really nice. But one downside with the autococker my friend ran out of air pretty fast. I think you should go with the A-5 and upgrade it form there.

Good Luck

If it's a unbladed cocker I would lean toward the A-5.  You could also look used.

Yeah for the Autococker I was planning on Eblade 2, Full Nexus Internals kit, orracle front block, black magic reg, matchstick barrel system, empire reloader b, worrgas 70cu. in. Peanut. Basically it would be sick once its done but i dont know if i will get that serious into paintball right now that i would throw down like 3 grand for the whole setup. Hmm, i dont know, the a5 looks like a really good gun too. I like the customizability. I can go for a woodsball, or speedball theme, yet the autococker would be really sweet and i would use it for a long time probably. God i hate these decisions lol. Any other thoughts?

and im looking at the '04 Prostock autococker to be putting the upgrades on. If i go with teh a5 i would be going with some opsgear upgrades for woodsball, probably an expansion chamber and remote line, a c02 tank with anti-siphon or i would spring for compressed air. Flatline, egrip, a good barel. Ill have to compare prices and see whats best.

I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a paintball marker... it just seems insane to me... plus I would only buy a product made in the USA.  The down payment I put on my house was about $5000.00 back in 1996... I think that puts $3000.00 for a marker into perpective.

The AutoCocker is REALLY not good for a starter gun, it is pretty diffucult to maintain. The A-5 is easier to maintain, but it is a gas hog {mine get's like 300 shots from a 20oz CO2}, and the trigger is not adjustable. I would recommend an upgraded Tippmann 98C, or an upgraded Smart Parts Shocker. Just remember if you are playing in the woods try to stay away from chromed out, brightly colored guns. If you like to shoot fast you should look at a Shocker {it's my personal favorite}. If you are the person who likes to play the snake or the one crawling through bushes or up trees for those wonderful sniping positions, take a look at a 98C.

I have a Spyder TL-X (in addition to an A-5) that I use in the woods.  I cover the bright blue and crome with camo tape.  It works really well and the tape removes without damaging the paint.  It actually protects the gun.  I use it for several months, take it off and put new on.

I say go with tippmann all the way.

Since you [play woodsball it is a good choice for its very durable.

while the autococker breaks easy and is extremely difficult to fix so you will have to send it back to the company for repairs ! and plus tippmann is awesome i performance and price so you can make a A-5 and a 98c full customized for 1/3 of the price of just one plane Auto.

Take form pro's. Just lay down, act dead, before you get shot in the head.

1) Am i the only one who thinks if its his first gun that he probably shouldn't spend 3000 dollars on his first gun.

2) Since if is your first gun, a Tippmann 98C should be plenty, and you'll save a couple hundred(or thousand) dollars so if you don't like it(or just want a better gun) you can get a better gun.

3) Autocockers, if you know how to work them and how they work, are not all that much harder except for the learning all the parts, timing, and quick fixes.

4) I am not trying to discourage you from buying an expensive gun, because i would like to do it too someday, if you really think your ready for a gun like that then be my guest, im just giving you my opinion.

Ok first  $3000 is insane even if you got a shocker its not goning to cost more the $1200 for everything you need. Now be real a A-5 with a e-grip can be used in the woods or the speed ball field and cost $300. Take that xtra money and use it for tornament fees or use it for a paintball camp and get some skills to playthe tornaments. There are a few good camps out there from what Ive read.
