Im feed up with them  they make absolutly no sense in having a screw with a star pattern and not just use a regular bolt. or a flat head or phillips head. It just make no sense at all.

Its just driving me nuts that I cant get my seat belts out of my car because I dont have the right size torx bit. I just got a four point harness and some nice seats out of a porche. so now I dont nead the regular shoulder and lap sustraint system anymore.

 well im done ranting

LOL yeah i hate em too. And im a mehcanic and have all the bits

The Dang tenshiners and pullys on the Powerstroke Diesels are held on by em and always seize on there.

One ya strip a torx screw your done.  All ya can do after that is cut it drill it and retread it.

Tomake things worse my dang Volkswagen is Like 90% put togeather with torx Screws ARRGGGG.

the TORX® Screwdriver was developed to meet industry's demand for a more reliable fastening system. The TORX® Screw virtually eliminates slipping and screwhead distortion. Commonly used in automotive and assembly applications.

No there just VERY easy to strip.  And on the Powerstrokes there inset so if you do strip em you cant even get a set of vise grips on em.  Oh and those DANG bits are EXPENSIVE.

Then again i also hate METRIC bolts (And im Canadian LOL) cause well i cant judge the sizes as well as i can with standard bolts.

No.. just.. no..

I have yet to strip a torx bit. Supposedly they're used because it makes manufacturing easy. Funny, I just saw a discussion like this on another of my groups.

Okay, I don't have a clever signature zinger. So sue me.

Torx had bolts, at least the small ones are very difficult to strip, which is why they are used.  I've twisted the bit once, but caused no damage to the bolt itself.  That was on a small one that held the handle of a knife on though.  In larger applications, I don't know how much a difference it would make, as long as you used the proper sized, and decent quality (meaning it's actually teh size it claims, and isn't undersized) tool.

The tool doesn't slip nearly as easily on Torx bolts. I kinda like them, but haven't dealt very much with the large ones yet.

As i was saying once ya get one of the bigger ones seized up youl know what i mean.  As i Said im a mehcanic i do this for a living I HAVE the bits (Both screw drivers and ratchet sockets).  And a well fitted  SIX POINT socket on a BOLT is WAY better than a Well fitten Torx bit.

I use Torx a lot on smaller things. They are prominent in computers and electronics. I sort of like them myself. One thing I run into a lot is Security Torx bits which are like regular torx, only they have a little tab that sticks up in the middle of the star shaped hole, requiring you to get Torx bits with a hole at the tip.

I've used bigger torx bits a little in cars, seat belts, brake calipers, etc, and I have had no problems with them. Although I could see how they could be trouble perhaps in hi-torque fasteners, like diesil motors.
