You will for sure need an e-grip, a new barrel, and x chamber with co2 then you will be totally set. I was just at the ultimate madness 3 on 3 tournament and I saw the 98 and a5 take out shockers timmies and every other "HIGH END MARKER". Trust me..

You'll want to get an E-Grip and a JCS trigger for it, and a nitro tank if you
want to play tourny with your A-5. Either that or get a new gun.
Alot of ppl will say that the cyclone is a big disadvantage, but if you play
to its strong points, mainly the fact that its 2 inches lower than any other
hopper, and its mounted on the right side of the marker so it can't be
shot if your playing lefty real tight.

so they will keep up with all other guns with the upgrades?

No, but they are able to compete. Your A-5 will never be able to do
30bps with the cyclone attached.
I've taken out plenty of players using shockers and matrix's etc playing
speedball. You need to keep in mind that buying one of these guns is not
going to make up for having years of experience and tons of practice.

Nobody can do 30 BPS anyway even if their gun is capable your fingers will never move that fast....
you can keep up with all of them

pumpgun in the middle of a speedball round, where everyone else had
Dm4's Proto's, Timmies, and all kinds of guns.....

Ramp: Marker fires one ball at a the time of trigger pull unless trigger is pulled rapidly and released more than 4 times in a second then trigger pulls later may results in two shots being fired. Ramping based on time between trigger pulls.
thats like a burst mode or reactive response not true semi

why upgrade an A-5 for speedball buying nitro tanks, etc... that will basically run u in the high $200's when u can get an Ion which is an awesome gun for $300? i say get a new gun

The only reason you would want to upgrade the A-5 for speedball is if
you already own one. If you go and buy an ION or something else your
going to need that nitro tank anyway, so you can't really count that
against the A-5.
Like I said before though, if you have an A-5 and want to play speedball,
all you need is an E-Grip (and I HIGHLY recommend the JCS trigger) and a
nitro tank. Can you compete? Sure. Can you shoot 30bps? No.

I agree, if I had the choice now between getting an A-5 or an ION back
when I first got my A-5 I'd almost definately get the ION.
If you already own an A-5 and can afford a second gun, go for it, why
not? If your short on cash however, you've gotta look at the big picture.
A-5: $229 ION: $299
E-Grip: $110 Halo: $104
Barrel: ~$80 ~$80
HPA: $200        $200
-------------------------
$619     $683
These are rounded off prices I found on 888paintball. Also keep in mind
if you already own an A-5 that's $229 your not spending again, and if you
try and sell your A-5, which can be another headache, you won't get full
value for it.
So weight out your options. Its that simple. I love my A-5, it shoots
damn fast and I can play speed just fine with it. I'm looking into possibly
getting an ION in the future, and I've gotta ask myself these same
questions. I always say you can't have too many markers, its just a shame
to pour another $480 into yet another marker. (That's counting marker,
loader, and aftermarket barrel)

The A5 might be perfect, considering many tournaments, at least when
they are serious, cap the BPS at 15 (the max for the cyclone
feed). You're paying the same for an E-A5 as an Ion.
Discount the price of a hopper, add a double trigger, an HPA tank and a
nice On/Off and you have a nice tourney capable gun.
Actually, since tippmann's next gun isnt coming out till christmas i'm
thinking that mid-summer when i start maknig lots of money the above
mentioned settup is going to be my next move.
