| some one in the model98.net forums posted about if you could do a top cocking mod. i was bored the other night and took my gun apart and checked out if this mod might work. what i came up with should work. first, mill out the top of the gun where the bolt handle will be. next, drill the hole for the linkage arm(make shure it is the right distance from the front of the bolt and that it is level!) i would(at this point) check my work to make shure everything is like you want it. finally, using a grinder (or preferrably a dremel,) cut the slot for the sear to catch on. now you are left with the orignal slot for the cocking handle; try to get the side plate form a rear cocking kit (from tippmann.) remember, all this is a theory, so it might or migh not work. give me feed back on what yall think! |

Consider yourself beat to it. 
I did that last summer. It can be done. It is easy to do. And I like it much better than the side cocking. Oh yeah, ignore the flame drop. Don't be afraid of the mod. It is quite simple and easily accomplished with a good drill, sharp drill bits, a table top vise and a Dremel with grinding and sandind bits.
Just make sure you mark out the slot for the top cocking knob to be lined up with the side cocking slot, otherwise you could run the problem of the cocking knob hitting the body before fully opening the valve or fully catching the sear. ------------- Which falls faster, a lead ball or your IQ after reading some of these posts? http://www.pennstatepaintball.com" rel="nofollow - PSU Paintball |

Other than personal prefrence, have you seen any real objective advantages to the top cocking?

No cocking knob flying back and forth infront of your eyes if you happen to hold the gun too close to your head while playing.
Easily cockable from either the left or right hand. Makes your gun distinguished so if it ever walks away you can easily identify it and beat the living piss out of the theif.
