ok, I used to own an a5 sniper and i loved it. but the 98 custom
sniper looks just as good but for less money. BUT i have 2
friends that bought the flatline barrel for the 98 and have had
only problems with it. The only way they were able to shoot
straight was by turning there velocity down to almost nothing.
So I am not sure what to buy because I know the the a5 is a
great choice but i need to know if the 98 is just as good. plz tell
me what you think aboout the two.
                thanks.

I own both an A-5 Flatline and a 98 Flatline. It has been my experience,
that while the 98 Flatline is harder to install, the accuracy and distance of
the 98 Flatline is noticably greater than that of the A-5 Flatline.

Your velocity on a 98 Flatline should be about 270fps.

I agree, go with the A-5, can't be beat with the cyclone; but order all the parts seperately and you will get it cheaper that way.

the only problems that i have with flatlines is when a ball breaks, it kills ur chances of shooting the person at any distance, and that sometimes when it floats, it loses alot of speed and bounces, but its dead accurate

^^Seriously, there is no need to bump 6 month old threads. It just clogs up the forum. I've noticed a lot of this happening in the past few days, so if you read this please do the right thing from now on.

if u break paint with the 98c flatline, its a lot harder to clean and take off than the A-5 flatline, and the cyclone on the A-5 cuts those chances to pieces.

ok. here's the lowdown. by sniping, i assume you mean scout or point. just use those terms because "sniper" gets serious flaming.

for a point player, get a ceramic or a stiffi. ceramics are cheaper than stiffis but louder and heaver. stiffis are light, quiet, accurate and cool-looking. flatlines are bad for point because scouts require straight shots. the flatline curves everywhich way. a flatline is more for backplayer or the like, where you need to laydown the fire from far away. get a regular barrell around 12-16" because they have better precision. longer barrels just waste gas and make your gun stick out. a point player needs to have his gun set up for one thing: performance, durability, and weight (or lack there of). this is where i recommend the 98c. you can beat them against a rock and they will still work (not literally, so dont go doin that...) avoid getting visual upgrades, for they will only weight down your gun, which is bad. light is good. remember this. another plus is if your pinned, the 98c shoots fast enough to get you out of a tight spot. also, get to know your gun. be sure you  know how to clean and maintain it in the field of battle, should an emergency occur. the most basic thing is camo. none of that stupid ghillie crap. that just makes you look silly and is not practical. you burn up and it restricts your movement, a lot. get regular hunter's camo or military bdu. woodland works best.

if your talking about the actual sniper set up as distributed by tippmann, ignore everything i just said, but feel free to pass on the info

The flatline dosent do anything for accuracy. It is purely for distance.  Only a longer barrel like 14" or so will do that, so dont even bring accuracy into the equation.

Barrel length has little to nothing to do with accuracy.............

yes im sry but it does. Yes ik barrel ration, bore size blah blah blah but yes contrary to what you think length does play a role.

Lets use real rifles for an example: correct me if i'm wrong, but does a longer barrel not only burn the propulsives, but also includes far more rifling, which would give the bullet a better spin, and thus, more accuracy. Same for paintballs.

Thats where you make your mistake, comparing the ballistics of firearms with the ballitics of paintball markers. They are very very different. Longer barrels DO NOT add to the accuracy of a paintball marker. Most paintball barrels do not have rifling nor do they impart a spin that stabilizes the paintball in flight.

Co2 has a certain amount of energy. When Co2 goes from a confined space pressure (tank) to atmospheric pressure it expands. This expansion (energy) propels the paintball. Beyond 10"-14" of barrel your wasting energy (using more CO2) to propel the paintball and overcome the friction of the barrel. To short of a barrel and you are not giving the Co2 enough confined space to expand and use all of its energy. Either way you waste CO2 (loose effiency).

All that to say you are mistaken in using the anology of a rifled firearm and a paintball marker.

Not to mention rifling does absolutely nothing for a paintball. Even if it did the ball would curve like a baseball pitch.

I am just going to have to differ with you over this. I own a Hammerhead Pro Rifled barrel. The spin imparted to the round ball in a Kentucky long rifle improves accuracy over the same ball fired in a smooth bore. I find the same to be true with my Hammerhead barrel.

It has been said that one cannot spin a paintball and have it stabilize because it is liquid filled and the shell tends to spin while leaving to core behind. If you have had any experience with the Flatline you know that spin is imparted to a paintball.

Whether you believe rifling improves accuracy of paintballs or not, I can attest to the fact that the imparted spin is certainly not detrimental to accuracy...I have reported on it elsewhere in the forums.

I like this guy- nice command on the language, and he doesn't act like an idiot. Refreshing.

Have you got any actual numbers to back up the accuracy of the hammerhead? I'd like to see a comparison of shot groupings at various fixed ranges to I could be sure that it's really that effective.
