Someone told me this:
E-bolt: 13 bps
E-grip: 15bps
WTF is this true? If so, why would anyone buy an e-bolt?
And what is your opinion? should my friend get that new custom pro that
comes with an e-grip, and then swap out the e-grip for the e-bolt, or
should he get the custom pro and just keep it as is? Thanks.

Because the E-Bolt is for the 98C and makes your gun electro-pneumatic.
The E-Grip is for the A-5 and is just a sear tripper.

People buy e-bolts because they have 98c's and e-grips only work for the A-5. If you get a Custom Pro just leave it how it is.

I dont know where you got this. E-Bolts (for 98 only) are capped at 15bps which is means it meets tournament limits.
The E-Grip (A-5 only, Custom Pro has one that wont fit a 98 or A-5) is capped at 15bps and has the exact same functions. The E-Bolt is an electro-pneumatic firing system, and an E-Grip is a cheap sear tripper.

They dont make an E-Grip for the 98 Custom, its only made for the A-5. Theres a huge differance between the E-Bolt and E-Grip.
The E-Bolt is a whole new electro-pneumatic firing system which is more complicated and better which is why its more. While the E-Grip is just a cheap sear tripping kit.

"...is more complicated and better"
It, based on what ive read on this forum, shoots the same or around the
same speed as the e-grip. And its tons more money. Someone actually
tell me why its Better.

well when i emailed tippmann they told me that they were going to make the Pro e's egrip be able to go into the regular 98c and that it should come out in about 1 to 2 months ...I copyed this right from the email they sent me...
WE ARE WORKING ON AN UPGRADE KIT FOR CUSTOM OWNERS THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO USE THE PRO-E'S ELECTRONIC TRIGGER. IT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN A MONTH OR TWO

egrip= sear tripper. sear trippers just move the sear, generally found in e spyders
ebolt= ram. yeah. A FIGGEN RAM! air goes through it which moves the ram which hits the valve which shoots the ball which lands a splat on my oppenent's google
its just better quality.

The Ebolt has the following modes: Response: fires on the pull and the release of the trigger Full Auto: 4 to 13 shots per second Turbo: Semi Auto, goes to response mode if trigger speed is more than 5 times per sec. Burst Mode 1: 3 shot bursts. Burst Mode 2: 6 shot bursts.

Hehe, my Virtue DM5 has uncapped full auto, I can set it from anywhere from 10.5 bps up to max hopper speed.
But like someone pointed out, the E-Bolt is capped at 13. The E-Bolt is
awesome because it totally changes how the gun feels and shoots,
whereas the E-Grip is still just a blow-back sear tripper.

The eBolt gives you a pneumatic ram, solenoid, low pressure reg - TRUE electro-pneumatic operation that is much smoother and has the ability to operate faster because it doesn't require a mechanical bolt to first be released by the sear, then have to recock and catch on the sear again before it can fire again. It was more expensive because it's a much more complete conversion to a "high end" status.
The eGrip simply uses an electronic switch to trip the sear (as if you pulled the trigger very fast). No solenoid, no pneumatic ram, no low pressure reg.
The eGrip is quite a bit cheaper so it's more popular among the masses. The end result is both are fast, the eGrip isn't as smooth but most people don't care as much about that, which is why the eGrip sold very well and the eBolt did not. It seems most people weren't willing to spend $225 to upgrade a $130 marker.

Tippmann did sell an e-trigger for 98c, virtually identical to the
custom pro and A5. BSI e-bolts are next to impossible to find,
GTA e bolts are still around,, once that stock is gone, it may be hard
to find parts for these kits so keep that in mind. I have a 98c
with ebolt and the a5 with egrip, they both shoot so close the same rof
that I can't really pick one above the other. imho, bearing in
mind that e-bolts are almost extinct (unless ncc goes ahead with his
kits), I would get the custom pro e, or upgrade your 98c if and when
they make the e-trigger available for the 98c.

My friend got his new custom pro E (Or whatever its called) today. We
shot it and it was quite fast, thats for sure. If we swapped the egrip
for the ebolt, all that we would have different is quieter operation,
less recoil, and the ability to say that his gun is fully electronic?

I actualy have a question about this. Does the E-Bolt shoot more accurately than the E-Grip? What exactly makes it so much better than the E-Grip besides some recoil and the chance to say "My gun is electro-pnuematic!". That is really all I have seen on this topic, and some recoil and bragging rights aren't the only things that separate Spyders from BKO's.

Yeah well the recoil of a paintball gun isnt exactly hard to handle.

Once again you are missing the point.
Think about what happens when you pull the trigger on a fully mechanical gun, and a sear tripper for that matter. Before your gun even shoots, the gun is being pushed forward by the bolt moving forward. This is exagerated even more when the bolt strikes the valve. All of this occurs before the shot. Then the ball is fired, but your gun isn't pointed where you gun was originally pointed, it is slightly down.
Then the valve is fully depressed, and the air forces the bolt backwards. This makes the gun pitch up.
Since almost all pro's use electropneumatic guns, they have superior accuracy because of lower recoil. That is why when they hit people, they hit them 3 times in the same spot...
You guys are thinking of recoil in the wrong way.
If you still don't get it, it means you have never shot a high end gun.
BTW, I believe bragging rights are the only thing that separates spyders and timmy's...but I could be wrong on that.

Ok well if they shoot the same speed, why should someone pay so much more for an e-bolt? |
When you fire the standard 98C the gun shakes all over the place from the mass of the hammer (rear bolt) slamming back and forth. The E-bolt replaces that heavy hammer with an electronically controlled penumatic hammer that has only about 1/4 of the moving mass of the stock hammer (plus, as with any electronic, the trigger pull is light as a feather. You can play the trigger like an Angel.
The bad part, besides the cost, is that Tippmann tells me that the E-Bolt is discontinued so the only thing available is the E-Grip, which is now available only on the A-5 and the Custom Pro. They also told me that they will have an e-grip for the 98C eventually. I think it a mistake to discontinue the E-Bolt and have said so to Tippmann. If you want the E-Bolt, I have been able to find them, nib, on the web and even on Ebay for about $200 to $225 (one sold on Ebay for $110). I find it easier to shoot to the same point of aim with the reduced movement of the gun when using the E-bolt.
Again, even though it has cost near $300, I think it a mistake to discontinue the the E-Bolt conversion.
