I just tried out my used tippmann 98 custom and I'm having troubles. It fired full auto and then gets stuck. I took the marker apart to install a hyper star bolt assembled as directed, then I hand tightened my 14 oz. co2 tank on cocked the bolt and fired off about 25-30 balls then the marker would kind of go to full auto for a sec. then i'd have to cock it to fire again It kept firing briefly on full and would get hung up I tried adjusting the pressure, I was using a muzzle mounted cronograph to set the velocity it was only reading about 170 to 130 i adjusted up and did not get much effect from turning up the pressure. I've dissasembled the marker now and see it's kind of dry so i know oil is surely in order I would like to get any other suggestions. thanks |

Hey! First thing, open up that gun, take out the hyperstar and put the stock bolt back in, no bolt is better then the stock bolt. Next, check your co2, sounds like a low tank. Be sure to check your valve bolts, a missing one can do this. Also, gas it up and listen for a hiss, you might have a leak. Check for leaks after the next thing. after the next step. Now, lets take a peek at your internals. Open up the gun and with a damp towel wipe everything off your bolt, linkage arm, and everything those parts touch. Now apply a film of oil all over the rear bolt be extra sure to lube up the o-ring. Also apply a film to the linkage arm and a thin layer on the tracks these parts go in. While you have the gun open, put a little oil on your front bolt o-ring. Put it back together, put about 5-10 drops of oil in your ASA and after you have a full tank, TAKE OFF YOUR BARREL and dry fire about 50-100 times, this gets a little oil in the valve and some of the internals you cant reach and dont want to when you open your gun. Wipe out your breech and repeat with 50-100 shots. Keep doing this till your breech no longer gets oily. Some people say it doesnt help, thats a matter of opinion. If none of this helps, you might need a new drive spring, call tippy and they may send it for free even if your gun isnt under warrenty. Im assuming you have an RT since your fire full auto. In this case the reason it is getting "stuck" is that new heavier sear spring. With that the bolt can somtimes not push the sear down completly. Once it stretches out more it wont happen often. So what you can do is add plenty of oil, or just shoot more. -------------
