Field stipping is taking your gun apart before or after a game to clean or repair your gun. During some games you may have time to fix it. In some cases a spring or oring may break and is required to be fixed. It just allows you to preform maitenence.

It makes it easier to clean if your gun has fast field stripping like the A-5.

If the front bolt on your gun chops a few paintballs there will be paintball fill in your gun. Your gun wont shoot accurately until you get it cleaned out. Field stripping means to take you your gun apart to clean it out or repair a part on the field. Some guns it's as simple as pulling the bolt and swabbing it, others you will have to do a total tear down on a table or bench. The A5 is field strippable, the 98C your going to have to find a table after the game.

Field stripping is a name taken from military weapons. You aren't literally taking the gun apart while on the playing field. It means a less than total diasassembly while, "in the field." On field training exercises (on "maneuvers") or in real world mission (hopefully not during a battle though :) ). In garrison, troops can take their weapons apart a little bit more to more thoroughly clean them.
