Okay, this is part of why I have been AWOL for a little while...I present to you the world premier of my new customization (soon to be on sale at a website near you!) Here it is...the ICP-1 Also known as the Bullpup conversion of an A-5! (I may call it the B-5 :)).
This is a Proof of Concept of the final design, the final design is actually two A-5 reciever halves. This conversion will still take every A-5 upgrade and 3rd party part....it just moves it forward into a smaller profile.
I played with this proof of concept at a big game last weekend and people showed a lot of interest...a photographer even took a pic of me while I charged the enemy with it. More info will be available here when it is available (keep checking back to the site for updates). http://www.identitycrisispaintball.com - www.identitycrisispaintball.com
Current config...E-grip, customized electronics, Low pressure kit, blade double trigger, and flatline barrel.
Here is my attack with it!!

Interesting to say the least... I dont really like the stickies on the foregrip. It isnt quite as jawdropping as your other work, but it is pretty unique and probably makes you have a tiny profile. What is the shell made out of?

i like it, but i might try to add some kind of cool body styling or some thing in that big open area.
|
Posted By: Jefangel
Date Posted: 08 May 2005 at 10:35pm
Yeah it does give a really small profile...had to keep it simple for manufacturing...so yes, not as jaw-dropping as the P90 or others (Aug..etc).
The shell is currently made of a poly-composite (very hard moldable plastic) final version will be two aluminum reciever halves (hopefully in august).

Actually, in place of the front sticky grip you can also put in a verticle grip or you can leave the front sticky off...you can also mount a lower weaver rail...there are a dozen options.
Here are a few more pics of the Proof of concept in action.

It's a little rough right now, but it will look 100% better when we start production using metal... much smoother lines and smaller because it will be receiver halves instead of wrap-around pieces(concept only)..
I even had the pleasure of using the ICP-1 at Paintball Sam's big game(APR 30)and I will have to say that it is a very compact design and very maneuverable moving through all types of terrian and structures.
The idea spawned from Jefangel's original A-5 P90 design and his desire to have a "bullpup" paintball marker. Which most of us know is extremely difficult because of all of the necessary parts for a paintball marker.
This is a exciting concept and everybody at Identity Crisis Paintball is backing Jefangel with this design.

I don't really have a price-point yet...I need to work a few things out before I can come up with athat...their will most likely be three price points though...just the reciever halves, reciever halves with electronics installed (so you don't have to do it yourself), and complete A-5 bull-pup.
As for the grips...it will take any 45 grip...as such you can even use real wooden or other 45 grips that you can find (most common form of grip out there is 45)...you are right the little point on the stickies looks funny...maybe I will put a pair of 98c grips on it and take a picture so you can see it without. OH, and the standard verticle grip of the A-5 can also be mounted on the front to give you a "tommy gun" feel if you so desire.

I commend you for the effort that must have gone into it, but your lack of detail to attention really makes it look like trash.
It's filled with scratches, the grips don't fit, etc. I personally would be ashamed to say I made that.
Put some more time into finishing things off and cleaning up the horrible blemishes and it will look awesome.
This is of course no knock on the idea or the performance.

Concept or not, its the fact that a half hour of Bondo work could have resolved all problems with the body imperfections and 5 minutes with a sharp knife could make the grips look correct.
I am a stickler for perfection, and when I see stuff like that I think someone just got lazy. I am not absolved of this myself either.

Snakeeyes! OUCH!
Actually, Quite a bit of work went into what you see...including a trip to the hospital! I started with a really hard steel type resin, this turned out to be not only poisonous, but incredibly caustic (ate right through my floor!), then I moved to Bondo...bondo turned out to be too fragile to make a working marker out of..it would work as a "fake" or a non-working PoC, but not a working model...I felt it was really important to have a working Proof of concept to show that the concept "works" and that it is useful in the field...so I kept working. Finally I found the Poly-carbinate...it is actually close to a fiber-glass...VERY strong, very resilient, NOT very friendly to work with...I spent hours with a sander on that thing! Unfortunately, the "scratches" and "holes" are actually in the layers...so as I would sand one section smooth, another "scratch" would reveal itself...it was very annoying and I was pushed for time in that the "big game" season was upon me...so, I gotta say snakeeyes, I agree with you...it could be a lot "cleaner" but I ran out of time...if I had another A-5 or the time to tear this one apart and start over...I guarentee that it would look better...
But is serves its purpose...the concept works, the "proof" is in the playing. I can stand behind a bunker or tree with the gun already pointing at the enemy. I can slide to the side keeping myself within 6 inches of the bunker and fire...I do not have to swing the marker around the bunker. In most situations I can beat whoever I am up against to the shot and get them as they are swinging their marker from their bunker. It takes both standard "straight" barrels as well as flatlines, so I can use it for both speed and woods ball (although I prefer woodsball)...in all the "proof of concept" does what it is supposed to do....but yes...I wish it were a little "prettier". LOL
However, I was working on the true prototype again on monday night...I am about 3/4 of the way towards an actual aluminum set of reciever halves....THOSE will be clean, those will be perfect and if I did my job right...it will be a working prototype. Basically that is why I call this a Proof of Concept (or Poc) rather than a prototype...I will definitely post pictures of the prototpye once it is complete. I will also be using it in the games I play in.
And yes, I am hoping I am going to be around for a while again.

Oh, and BTW, Bondo doesn't stick to it....tried that :) It just flakes off. If given the chance I will definitely clean it up some more though (have to use the original poly-carbinate stuff...which is nasty...dries in five minutes (so you need to mold it quickly after mixing) and is incredibly hard!! (went through a tone of sanding disks as well as blades cutting the darned stuff!). Problem is, I work my job during the day...work on the prototype every monday night, have volleyball tuesday and thursday, usually work late or go out with the guys on wednesday, spend friday night with the girlfriend (although that sometimes turns into saturday and saturday night also)...which leaves my weekends (usually sunday)....but we have been playing most weekends! besides...I have been putting all my time into the actual prototype.
But no worries...the final is going to be beautiful!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! Sorry to be such a negative nancy there then. I did not realize that Bondo wasn't working.
But I should ask, what kind of Bondo were you using, the typical car body metal adhesion Bondo (normally red hardener with a gray putty) or the fiberglass resin (normally bluer putty with blue hardener)?
The blue stuff should stick as it is designed for anything that is a polymer, like what you used to make the protos.

I should see if I can find the blue stuff...I tried the stuff that is supposed to bond to metal...but it was too brittle. You see the grip holds the entire weight of the marker including the hopper...a stock handle (a-5, 98, etc) is made quite sturdy for this reason...this one carries the weight of a standard marker plus the additional weight of what I added...my first PoC actually broke off at the handle my first time attempting to "use" it. This one has now gone through several days of all day play (running, jumping, pushing through brush, climbing, banging it against trees..etc) it has held up quite well! :)
Can you get the blue stuff at home-depot? Do you know what it is called?

The blue stuff is also made by Bondo, but it is called fiberglass body filler. Should have a boat on the label instead of a car. As for where you can purchase it, I believe I have seen it at Lowe's so I would assume that Home Depot would also carry it. If you cannot find it there, try http://www.polsteins.com/bo4pifirewih.html - here or check out http://www.bondo-online.com/ - Bondo-Online to get a list of all of their fillers that would be applicable to your job. The first one I listed however should be the correct one, but I could be wrong as I have not used it in quite some time, so I am going off of fuzzy memory on what the label looked like.

Oh noes, I haved been putted in my place.
As you must have not read, I said that I was impressed with the idea, but I felt that the lack of attention to detail detracted too much from the gun.
As for challenging me to do what he does in his time frame (of which I do not have much info on) that is comical in itself. I do not, nor do I ever plan to make Mil-Sim designs.
I have scrapped lesser projects for lack of attention to detail.
My main issue here was that he obviously put a lot of time into this, and it appeared that at the end he just got lazy. The problem there is that is the difference between a pro and some backyard squid, detail. The higher the quality of attention paid to detail, the higher the quality of the final product.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Thompsonshooter not Eric Engler, of

effort is worthy of the kind of projects he's tackled, and I don't say
that lightly with the results he's shown.

Okay, Update on the B-5!
Things are going well!! Had a bit of a setback in the fact that I was in a pretty bad car wreck...some idiot believed that I didn't exist in his reality and pulled out right in front of me while I was driving on the highway...he was making a left turn going over my lane so I plowed into him at about 50mph...broke my foot in 2 places, cracked some ribs, strained my left hand, and pulled most of the muscles in my back...but I am alive and kicking...my truck definitely deserved it's 5 star crash rating!
First the bad news....my schedule of an august release date was pushed back by the accident...I then had a tentative release date of Sept 4th...but that fell through also...now I am looking late september...which hopefully will coincide with my recovery date....my foot is already healing quite well (accident was 3 weeks ago), but my back is giving me problems still...ah well.
Now the good news...A friend of a friend is opening a machine shop...and has offered to do a "special release" run of the B-5's...that is right....they will be MACHINED and NOT Molded! That means absolute perfection in every unit produced! I am very excited for this....I still don't know how much the machined pieces are going to cost me but I am hoping to get a good enough deal to offer them at a decent price. I am looking at the possibility in the long run of having both a milled version of the reciever halves as well as a molded (cheaper) version. Good stuff!
Okay, to show I have not been laid up all summer...here are some pics of the B-5 in action at a few games over the last couple months.
They are taken from our website over at www.identitycrisispaintball.com which is currently hosted on a free web-hosting place so if the pics don't work, it is because we went over our bandwidth again...check back later...hopefully soon we will get a more permanent site for our website!! (yet another frustration with trying to get a business off the ground)

You wouldnt by chance have any pictures with the cyclone cap thing on it.
Cause that hopper looks like you wouldnt be able to see the right if you were shooting.

Somehow I missed this thread earlier.
If the price is rational, I will definitely be getting one of these.
Will this design provide access to the RT adjustment screw?

Darn it slasherdan! Been busy...with the whole recovering from a car accident thing!! LOL!
In answer to the other question...nopers, the initial run will not be RT compatible...I originally planned it that way...but soon realized that fields would outlaw it in a second...after-all, with the new electronics...it would be RT+electronic...so theoretically with RT and Ramping...not a good combo to keep the Marker in the market...so I dropped the RT, it really isn't necessary with an electronic marker.

I was in a car accident this past sunday 9/28 as well on the way to play some paintball. Since the car was totaled I hope that with my new budget, I will still be able to afford one of these. Looks like the entertainment budget of mine is going to be greatly decreased.
Still good luck and I still cant wait to get my hands on one.

Yeah, my plan is to add some body styling...Working with my designer to add a little "flash" to it...this is simply a "proof of concept" and as such, it proves that the concept works...that concept being a very short compact marker that DOES rock in speedball (because of it's compact size)...I cannot wait to get the actual prototype DONE!! been working hard towards that end...I want to be able to use it when I am better at some big games and some speedball tourneys this winter...
I am really hoping to have pics of the actual prototype (with some fancy body styling) up within the month!
Hey Hades...sorry to hear about your accident also! Hope you get better soon!

Looks good - another question: Will it require a Flatline, or will the body accomodate other barrels?
|

Body accomodates any barrel you want to put on it. Also still fits all A-5 upgrades except the RT (LP kit, different bolts, etc..)

Ah, one more question - it appears to be wired for remote only. Will there be a way to attach a tank on the gun?

Bump for my long lost lover, Jef.
I will have holiday cash burning holes in my pocket soon.
Hopefully, it would be able to burn a hole in Jef's pocket.

Not to insult you, but that dossnt look very good. It may be
comfortable and work well, but if your going for a more miltary style i
would have made it look less "blocky".
