Woodsball, takes skill to play speed ball..But it takes alot more to be in the woods and hunt others down.

Im a sniper, so I single out people and laugh when they say "What, were did that bloody come from"

Depends on what type of speedball and woodsball.

Speedball in general is a blast, with adrenaline pumping and paint flying. Its all about communication, shutting down lanes, and laying down some paint.

Woodsball in general is slower moving and requires being stealthy and maintaining communications over vast amounts of land. With a good radio system up and running your team does great.

Some people consider Scenerio's part of woodsball but I put it in a class of its own. Most of the time theres an exponential amount of people in a scenerio compared to woods/speed. There are objectives to complete and roles to play.

All in all I play woods the most, but each is important to the growth of this sport.

Yea I like woods, because its all about stealth and trying to sneak around your opponents in speedball and hit them from behind is, well, very difficult in a closed area

i like both, but i like woodsball more.  speedball would be fun if i had enough money to buy more than 1 case of paint each time i go.  sure i can get by shooting 1 shot at a time, but its not fair when im getting hammered at 12bps.  woodsball, i feel, is based more on skill and teamwork.  it is a slower game, but it heats up and its more fun for me.  i do also think speedball is based a lot on teamwork though, just not as much skill.

that of course is my opinion after playing with 11 year olds with thousand dollar guns their parents bought them and unlimited paint that cant aim for crap and rely on their ROF to make a hit.

Tactics, my friend. You have a big open field. You have trees to hide behind. A vietnam/WW2 experience.  Speedball is horrible to compare on the basis that you have to hide behind giant marsh mellows, and you cant hide with camo. Woodsball Rocks!

The combat is always people caught off gaurd or shooting at each other from behind cover/manuvering. Put me on speed/woods/scenario I will have a good time with all.

I like woodsball more.  I agree with the people before me, i like it more because you have to use more tactics and you have to use your head. In speedball you dont have time to think, just to SHOOT!

Posted By: Nickodemus
Date Posted: 16 May 2005 at 11:43am

You don't believe you have time to think in speedball? You must do poorly.

I find in both, once you are within 300 feet of each other the tactics are very similar. Now for strategy there are some differences.

i like speedball beter but i do play woods also for fun... speedball is fun because ur always in action and it takes extreme teamwork to play good. u have to be fast in ur mind and ur body and the games are shorter so u can play more and not be stuck out for 20 minutes.... the downs about it are shooting a case it 2 minutes because ur gun is fast and u get trigger happy otherwise speedball is more fun time for me

I beg to differ. I once charged a bunker with 4 guys in it attempting to bunker them. Didn't exactly work out like planned. Morale of the story: Superheros dont exist.

Woodsball is better. You'll use less paint and have more fun. It requires strategy and tactics. That was a good post, but more woodsballers use tippmanns.

Woodsball is what it's all about. More realistic and you need a few more skilsl that you lack in speedball. Stealth, silence, patience and to be reliable.

Put it this way..

Speedball is fast, and all you do is shoot were ever you see a mask pop up. Woodsball, you hunt a single person or a group. Sneaking up fast while keeping yourself unseen or heard. You have to wait for a perfect time to attack.

You get radio commands to flank at a specific area..Well, that's about 200 yards away, and there's people after you. You sneak there, and flank.

Just..Too much to say. I'ts a very tactical game. You need smarts to know were your team is, and the enemy. It's not like a game of dodgeball were each person has a side..woodsball is a beehive of people in an area near a half mile or more wide / long.

you have to think in speedball, b.c if you dont your gonna get rolled everytime. speedball is a very intricate game with many subtle neuonces (sp?) that are difficult to pick up on unless you are looking for them. i hate when woodsball guys say that speedball is just a waste of paint blah blah blah, there is alot more to speedball then shooting fast. the team work and communication is much more intense and important in speedball then woods IMO, u can get by in woods w/out much communication, where as in speedball u simply cant.
there is actually a lot to learn in order to become a good speedball player, serioulsy, anyone can lay out in the woods in bdus and shoot someone.

The Rec field... I enjoy it but hate it when the game starts and after the first minute I run 1/2 down the field I notice I am all alone, without my team of 75 people... they all play rear, even in the last five minutes. A bunch of kids and newbs afraid of paint I guess, on both sides. There are always few exceptions, but mostly high dollar markers spewing paint from behind cover all game. I can get my girlfriend and brother to run a blitz with me, but usually we don't all make it there.

Overall woodsball is the only for me to play paintball. After all when you get over forty it is kind of hard to be doing all of that running. Plus the tactics, stealth and accuracy with your marker.

You can still use the Spec ops brigade page for speedball. Just substitute names like heavy gunner for back and light rifleman for front. The stat page can still be used like normal, and I believe there is a spot for speedball on the game locater.
