I have a Custom 98 that I have the toughest time getting chrono'd when
I play. One of the places I play have a max of 275. With a
CO2 tank directly in the marker my first shot is low below the
275. The second shot jumps to over 300. This pattern
repeats with one low, two high, three low, four high, etc. I make
adjustments to try and get it stable but the best I do is lower the
first shot down but the pattern still repeats. The only advice given by the local pro shop is that it is standard with Tippmann's and CO2 tanks. The only way I can get my gun chrono approved to play is use my airline/coil system. For whatever reason I can then get the marker to shot a consistent range to get approved for play. I am guessing that maybe because the CO2 has to travel through the coil, the pressure is lower so I get more stable shots. The bad news is that although I can get chrono'd to play, while in play using the coil, I constantly get gun jams where the gun stops shooting like there is no pressure. I have to turn the air valve off and on and tinker with it to get it back and running. This happens 3-4 times while playing a field/map. Since I got chrono'd already, I switch back to putting the tank directly into the marker. This can't be right. I was thinking of going to a compressed air tank to maybe remedy the problem. Anybody think this would fix it? Any ideas on what my problems are? Any help would be appreciated. |

Co2 naturaly isnt consistant. Especialy after you point you gun down and liquid gets sucked up. An expansion chamber, Palmers Stabalizer, anti-siphon, or remote will help. If your remote has a slide-check on it, it may be getting pushed down and shutting it off. And make sure that knob is screwed down pretty far.
But switching to HPA will totaly solve it. -------------

But not too far. The on/off should be turned on until the line is charged, then 1/2 turn to 1 turn more. Any more than this and you could cause an air constriction. -------------

you can:
Get an anti-siphon tuber you will egt abouit +-10 depending where you play coiled remote Expansion chamber Nitro these will fix your problem ------------- Sig is WAY too big. |

Hey All, Thanks for all the input and advice. I think I have narrowed down my options to three, so tell me what you think. 1) Get a regulator like the Palmers. The average price seems to be around $70. Hopefully this cures the spikes. 2) Get a nitro tank. I have been looking at a 92ci 4500psi tank. The average price is around $210. I have heard that I can put the nitro tank straight in without any other upgrades. 3) If I go nitro, get the comp air/low pressure system for roughly $120. I have heard mixed comments on this as half have said you need it for nitro and half say you don't. We would be in about $330 now. If I don't need to do any other upgrades, I would prefer to go with option #2. What do you guys think? Thanks |

| If you cannot afford an N2 tank just get an anti-siphon in the C02 tank. It should cost you around $10-20 at most pro shops. Directions to install your own can be found here: http://www.sundragonpps.com/paintball_antisiphon_inst.html The only thing an expansion chamber is good for is using C02 in cold weather otherwise they're usless and restrictive IMHO. The Palmer's will help with consistancy and help keep some of the liquid from your marker but could actually use the anti-siphon as well for maximum results. N2 tank? A 92ci 4500psi tank is waaaaayyy to big, go for a Crossfire 68/4500 or 70/4500 stubby. The stubby is great!!! - |

Dragon, Thanks for input and help. If I go nitro tank and don't have to add anything else, I think it's worth it to spend the $150 for the tank. Do you use nitro tank straight into marker? |

No prob..........an N2 tank should stabilize the pressure pretty good and well worth the money if you can actually afford one. I still use C02 with some of my markers because it's an inexpensive propellant and I fill my own C02 tanks from a 20lb. I use my N2 tank with my Impulse and one of my Spyders..........yes you just thread it into the BL ASA same as your C02 tank.......if you added a Palmer's to your 98, you would need an adapter to do so so that would be another added expense as well - |

| Lot of workable solutions posted here, just requiring some time and a little money. In the short term I find that if I keep my marker pointed up from the time I screw on the fresh CO2 bottle until I hit the chronograph I get very consistent results. Pointing my marker down gets liquid into the system causing wildly ranging velocity for as many as 10 shots. I have also tried installing a partially used cylinder for chrono...pressure is still the same, but the likelihood of getting liquid in the marker is much lower. Still, I keep the marker pointed up at all times. |

Yes it is true that c02 isnt consistant but guns velocity dosnt spike that high and low. If you get the LPK you will still need the Palmer Stabilizer. |
