[Yes i am a spoiled brat]
Anywho, i'm looking into buying my first car. I've always been in love with Eclipses and there is a pretty cheap Spyder Convertable in the area. My only concern is that i'm too add to drive a stick. So, any thoughts or opinions or anything?

We own 4 toyota's, looking at buying another. They are incredible. I left an 82 corolla wagon outside this winter, gas and oil still in it, didnt take the battery out either. Got to -40 this winter, and it still started the first day I tried it. No jump, nothing. I offroad a bit in it too, it's fun.

To each their own, but when it comes down to it, I have the cargo room to carry whatever and as much of it to the field, not to mention 4 other people. The back will hold a SCUBA Tank for compressed air and a 3 drawer organizer for my gear and parts, also the back shelf doubles as a maintenance table, so I can work on my gun.

I wouldn't take a Toyota MR2 Spyder because I think they are about to discontinue it, and second, I would not want to be in a car accident in it.
And to the thread poster, are you looking for advice for what to buy? WHat's your price, etc?

An Eclipse would be a good first car. They're not fast, they're relatively cheap, and they get decent gas mileage.
Oh and by the way, I'm ADD and I drive a stick so that isn't a valid excuse.

People need to learn to drive i HONESTLY belive the driving test have to be HARDER and more strict. I also beleive that a GENREAL idea of the workings of a car should be 100% MANDITORY. I dont see how one can LEGALLY drive a car and NOT know how to park the dang thing. ALSO i belive you should NOT be able to get your lisence in an Automatic car and be licensed for a Stick shift there should be like a note on the lisence itself staiting wether you are certified for auto or stick.
I find stick shift no harder to drive than an auto just have more controle over the vehical. I dont really pay attention to the shifter or clutch i just do it automatically. Hell i dont even use the clutch for the most part its there only for stoping i can shift up and down just be ear. Its really not all that complicated. Stick shift is kinda fun but i LOVE the auto for LONG HUALS with a load on her.
I have had my share of Vehicals and driven MANY more (im a mehcainc so...). If ya all think a stick shift in a car is tricky try driving a Big Rig with a big ol Cat c16 (16L stright 6cyl) with 600hp and 2000lbs/tq hooked to a roadranger 18speed trans. THAT gets me working cause im not use to it (but it becomes second nature for those driving it every day).
P.S. Oh and i think i should be CROWNED the three hundred point turn CHAMPION when i went down a dead end street with a 40ft Transit bus during a service call and was forced to turn it around on the street took me like 6 back and forth manuvers on some guys driveway LOL poor old man cane and all gave me the weirdest look as he stood and watched from his porch.

People should be required to atleast learn how to drive a manual.
There is no excuse for not knowing how, only sheer laziness and
incompetence. It would benefit the average driver for them to use
a stick for a few days, because you are forced to pay more attention to
what is going on around you (you can't pull out infront of people like
you can with an auto, you can't eat while talking on a cell phone,
etc.).

Yes i have driven a few Farm tractors as well as some veriouse Heavy equipment. My favorite tracto was a late 70 early 80 International with a 4cyl diesel and 8 speed trans. Thing could pull ANYTHING we used it at my old work to pull trucks (REAL Trucks 18 wheelers) into the shop. I have driven ALOT of differant vehicals but the MOST difficult to drive i have to say was an EARLY 70s Highway Coach (BUS) with a 8v71 Detroit diesel (rear mounted) with a 7 speed STICK SHIFT transmishion the LINKAGE was almost 40"long. I then leart the MEANING of SHIFT WITH ATHOURITY. Close seconds belong to ANY Cab over trucks cause there shifter linkage is screwed up.
I too had to pay my way. My first car i got for $300 from my gramps when i was 15 (was working since 13 soo i had over $6000 to spend but whanted something CHEAP first). Fixed it and it was ready to drive when i got my lisence at 16. Drove it for a full year befor it died on me (toasted the trans) and replaced it with a NICE 1999 Ford Ranger flare side. Also at the same time my Gramps lost MOST of his Sight and No longer could drive so he GAVE me his 1977 Tradsmann 200. Well due to $$$$ probs and inshurance isshues i was forced to sell both and bought the 1994 F250 i currently ow and have been fixing it up SINCE. Recently i purchased my VW as a small daily driver to save on the commuting costs and inshurance as well as a GOOD winter car (the trucks 2wd and Sucks in the snow the cars AWSOME in the snow).

Just go with what u do the most. I have to haul a trailer every once in awhile so i drive a 94 chevy silverado and i dont know what i would do with out it. No i didnt buy this vehicle it was passed to me when my dad got his new truck. Toyotas are great vehicles and so are most car and trucks. SUVs suck gas up so if u want one make sure u have steady pay. Just make sure u are happy with what u get.

Good point.
Although, most parents would also rather have their kids learning how
to cope in the real world. Hence, most parents would like their kids to
have a job. I live in one of the 5 richest counties in the world. Guess
how many kids have jobs at my school? 70% of my class, as of last year.
It's not all cut and dry.

My deal was i HAD to get 70% or better in EVERY class if i wanted to work. This is the kinda deal i plan to use on my own kids when i have em. I got what i wanted my job and my OWN $$$$. All i had to do was PUSH myself for the grades.
Something i learnt in college. As important as school is NOTHING can substitute real world experiance. The sooner you get this experiance the better off youl be. When you gotta pay the bills and buy food at the end of the month AND still keep you work/schooling (witch ever applies) up to snuff you relize how little of importance your hobbies have.

Hey!
Sticks in my opinion are so much more fun to drive than an automatic.
But then again...I like to race a lot so...that's another big reason I like an MT over an AT.
That way you control the acceleration and shifting instead of a computer which determines the shifts and can go over the the optimal shift point when driven hard.
Which is the reason why my aunt's having to replace the tranny in her Impala after I had borrowed it for a weekend.
It now shifts hard and slips going into fourth.
Now a person experienced with driving a manual could avoid such problems by being able to shift before pushin' the powerband.
But yeah...another 3 weeks and I finally get another car.
It'll be the first car of my OWN since my Reatta that I totalled back in August.
Then there was my grandpa's truck that I was drivin' for a while before my buddy Ryan was screwin' around and popped the clutch of his GMC and backed into it and totalled it.
So I pounded the fender out on it so I could drive it for the rest of the week and I ended up smackin' a deer with it two days later.
Then I started drivin' my grandpa's Mercedes and maybe had that for like 3 or 4 weeks before I hit a dear with it and totalled that as well.
All three of those happened within a 3 month period.
Plus I was in my buddy Ryan's(a diff. one) S10 when he T-boned a chick back in February when we decided to skip school and go "bake some cookies". (there's a very good lesson to be learned from that story...yet I still haven't. I just drove home after "baking cookies" at my girlfriend's house. )
But yeah...an eclipse...I wouldn't mind one between a '96 and '05.
Right now I'm still set on gettin' my 350Z in a few weeks but may go to a new Eclipse or even a '98 or '99 3000GT...who knows.

Some kids can do both. What is wrong with it is that their kids
don't learn the sense of fiscal responsibility they otherwise would have learned. I
have no problem with parents buying it upfront and having their kids
buy it off them (thats what mine are doing with the Z28), but to just
completely give it to them is irresponsible.

First off, I'm going to get my parents SUV because they will still be able to use it, and I don't see the point in them buying me a new car, or me buying my own when there is a perfectly nice suv in the garage. (Sorry for run on.) Also, let's say you get straight A's in AP courses, and get accepted into Harvard Law. Now lets say you get C's and B's and are forced to go to the local community college. Which do you think will pay off more? I say having your parents buy your car while you concentrate in school is a better overall choice. But then again, I guess you don't think so.

How? Most kids that learn stick can make it go, but actualy driving. Dealing with the guy behind you honking his horn, the light being green, he is on a hill(around here we have rediculous hills) If he isnt proficient at working a manual tranny, he is going to get into an accident.

A PT can be cool if styled right....here is a link to my web album for my car...Plus you pay a lesser insurance on it, and it will blow a import rice burner off the line with its 4 on the floor... Getting my windshield replaced though, so I will put up new pics on Thur afternoon after I give her another bath.

The one I have use to belong to my wife till she got a hybrid, so now it is mine to do with what I please...the interior is just a start, it is going to recieve a full makeover and will be a hotrod when I get done with it...I like it because it is easy to handle, lots of cargo room (handy for paintball) and it doesn't sacrafice passenger space. Also like I said before, it will smoke a import rice burner off the line any day.

Well, I have a PT Cruiser and it averages about double that, and my wife's hybrid, gets almost double my milege... Too bad that technology nowadays can't make every car a hybrid, but I here thats going to change in the near future

I'll stick with the polluting gas gusslers, even if I have to drill for my own oil in Alaska.

I bought my car and my ATV. But youy lucky if your parents are buying you your car if you have to pay for gas and insurance id reccomend like a honda or a jetta something like that if they are paying for EVERYTHING then get whatever you like. My car is a 1995 Honda Accord EX v-6 leather, sunroof, Cd player (replaced with sony expod head unit) its a nice car i got a good deal on it. Fair gas mileage quick enough for me, roomy enough for my friends and i, back seats fold down for more trunk room if needed and well other back seat activities. Its a good reliable car i would reccomend one to anyone. By the way i paid $3,000.00 for it. And my ATV is a 2004 kawasaki Prairie 700.. which i paid just about $7,000.00 for with plow.. so yea my toy cost more than my car.?

If you want to make a street racing car, I'd buy the '95-'96 Nissan 240SX, or a Supra TT.

Anyone seen that comercial with those two guys that have carbon fiber hoods and turbo chargers and boost controlers and all that on them? I laughed.. A stock scion engine can handel 5-8 Lbs of boost. And it has a turbo timer. I dont think the turbo will get hot enough to even need a timer. But, maybe its very tricked out, who knows, still looks like trash thogh.

I got my license a few months ago. First thing my uncle did was take me
out and learn to drive shift in his Z28 Camaro (he just installed a new
clutch no wrys) First few tries there was some loud screeching but got
the hang off it by the end of the day and he was teaching me to do burn
outs and all the good stuff lol.
My parents gave me 2 choices bout helpin me wit a car.
1. They would by car and i would pay insurance(yeah right)
2. i buy car and they pay insurnce
Guess wat i picked?
So now i got a used retired cop car wit only 43,000 miles for
$5,500. Its a V6 3.8 2001 Impala white,engin configs wasnt set back to
stock so still as fast as cop cars, the flashing cop lights still in
the front grill but i didnt care to put a fuse in for they would
wrk, still got them big thick heavy duty tires, em and im in the
process of getting a flowmaster exhaust system soon and a lil while
till i get a good sound system
i'll post some picks up of me and my car soon. once i buy batteries for this cheap digital camra i won in a raffle
