I am just starting and was looking at A-5 w/ E grip then I saw a Ion.

  1. is the accuracy better for the ion or A-5?
  2. is distance better for the ion or A-5?
  3. which one is more reliable?
  4. which is an all around better marker

  1. Barrel, or paint to barrel match
  2. Who cares about distance if u really care get a flatline if you get the A-5
  3. Both are very reiable. I have owned an A-5
  4. I would get an ION if you are a speedball player and an A-5 if you were a woodsballer. But all around I say ION

I love my A-5 but I wouldn't argue with this. Well I wouldn't argue very hard.

Everything's been covered. I would have to say the A5 with Egrip.

Well whatever you play the most of make your decision based on the info provided.

Note that most fields only allow semi modes so even if you get an Ion that shoots 17 bps (ONLY ON RAMP MODE) you wont be hitting that with semi.

Id go with the A5

If you must go full auto... then go with the A5 w/ egrip.  I saw a kid buying the smart parts ion at my locxal pro shop... A Tippmann house... it is probably an ok marker, but I don't think it is madew in the USA.  I guess I'd go with the Ion if you like that wussified speedball look.  I'll bet the A5 is easier to maintain, and it looks way cooler.

Heres The catch The A5 is more of a woods gun,but with the Patened cyclone its already at the 15 bps rule, pro.
So the A5 is pretty good 4 some rec and some 3 man tourney but if all u play is tourney.......definitly ion!

I was thinking the same thing. I shot both. The Ion is definitely lighter. a-5 is more upgradable. I went with the a-5 with the new e-grip and JCS trigger and hammerhead barrel and i have had no problem keeping up with the expensive markers. As a matter of fact I am shooting a lot more paint than I was used to!!

I would hands down say ion, you wont be dissapointed.

You listed a CON as having no eyes...correct me if I am wrong...but since it uses the CYCLONE FEED SYSTEM it doesn't need EYES.  Ball chop is vertually eliminated since the marker controls it's own feeding.

You say it is heavy on one side, and heavy all together? I use it all day long for 8 hours of gaming at my local field, being 27 and playing against 15 to 18 year olds you'd think I would be worn out with your logic.

SLOW? The A-5 with an E-grip set to "Auto-Response" or "Full Auto" with the dial turned up on rate of fire is plenty fast for most recreational players.  I'd say you have enough "EFFECTIVE" speed to take on players in the usual settings.

I would keep this marker (A-5) for a long time before I would even think of getting an ION...not impressed anymore with them since I got my flatline and E-Grip.

Quote Lift some weights, then it aint heavy

This kinda struck me funny.  I'll be the first to admit that the A-5 (especially my configuration) weighs a ton when compared to my buddies 68Automag or a Spyder Image.  It wasn't until after firing both of them when I realized that.  But, I benchpress over 300lbs and can preacher-curl 160lbs, so the A-5's weight is moot with me.

yes, the a-5 is heavier than many guns out there.

but if you're not some pansy **edited** it really shouldn't matter all that much. i've played 11-hour days with my a-5 and haven't been tired in the least bit with all it's "heaviness."

Allright all of you who think that because the A-5's haevy means that you get tiered easier or sore, that's not the porblem.

The problem with the weight is that it makes snap shooting harder, as well as switching hands.

As far as the person who said you can't get to 17bps in semi...  You're wrong, yes it may be somewhat challenging on a stock Ion, but not on a gun with a DECENT trigger, or an Ion with an upgraded trigger.

But back to the topic on hand, I personally say the Ion, but that's just my opinion.  And that's really all anybody has said in this thread is their personal opinions so go to a field/store and try out both markers IN PERSON, and make your own decision.

Some would argue that the Ion's closed bolt operation/stock regulator would make it more accurate. It's probably less reliable/durable, though.

One thing that stopped me from getting an Ion were the hidden costs:

-Nitro
-Electrical Hopper

That already raises the price tag to approx. 500, without any other upgrades such as a barrel.

There's been plenty of evidence presented, you decide.

a5 with e-grip and Jcs is better like everyone should say, i just hate smart parts so i would also say a stock a5 is better than an ion and a shocker put together

hoppers and air tanks aren't exactly hidden costs and can be attached to almost all guns
