First off, the calipers you're using may not be accurate enough for mesuring calibers.  You need to be able to measure up to .001 inches.  It may also be that you did indeed get a bad batch of paint, even the best manufacturers will have bad or defective paint for some reason or another, it happens.  For your flatline, it is a good idea to use a better quality small bore paint like RPS Marbalizers or RPS premium, both retail for around $50 for a case of 2000.  I have had excellent results with both of these paints in my own and my teams flatlines, both M98 and A5's.  There is also a lot of great information to help you in the flatline stickies, so check that out too.  Much of what happens in painball is learned by doing it, and of course getting it wrong most of the time.  You'll get good advice from this site, so stick with it and you'll get better and maybe avoid some costly mistakes down the road.  Good luck.

Oh yeah, soap and water is the best way to clean every part of your marker, including the flatline barrel.  Just remember that if you wash the internals of your marker, remember to make sure it's dry and to oil all moving parts and you'll be fine.

Ok, 5.5 and 7.5 what?  The numbers are meaningless without some sort of qualifier, are they representing inches, centimeters, miles, or light years?

Now by 'dibits' do you mean that the shell of the paintball looks like a golfball?  If this is the case, then that is the problem with your paint.  Both the shell and the gel fill of a paintball react to different conditions.  On average if the temperature drops too low(below freezing) the gel will contract, creating a vacuum inside the paintball and suck in the shell causing dimples to form in the shell like a golfball.  If the humidity is too high, the shell will expand and soften, making the balls too big for most barrels and not feed properly.  And of course, since the manufactuing of paintball is not an exact science, bad batches will get out.

There is already a sticky for flatline paint, but I'll go through a couple of simple things you'll need to know here.  The flatline performs best with smallbore paint, usually .685 inches or less.  The seams where the two halves of the shell come together should be as smooth as posible without looking like a valley.  The reson for this is that the flatline imparts a spin to the ball, and any deformity in the paintball will cause it to fly erratically.  And last roll a couple balls across a table.  If they don't roll straight, they won't fly straight.  Hope this helps.

First, forget your high tech measuring of the paint. Get a good quality ball sizer. The only way a ball is going to be .71" is if it has been stored in open bags in a shower stall or steam room. A ball with a diameter of .71" won't even feet through most hopper necks. I have never measured Werks paint but if it exceeds .693" then it is likely defective.
