For my starter gun, I am planning on buying a:

  • Black Tippman 98 Custom
  • Blue Extreme Rage 45 omega Timer Grip
  • 16" J&J Cermaic Barrel
  • Red dot sight

Is this a good setup for my starter gun? I will mostly play woodsball, but I don't want a gun that I can never play a good speedball match with either. As also is evident, I don't have that much spare cash to spend. What do you think?

Dont get a 16" barrel, get a 14". Also look at a double trigger

ok, I was either going 14" or 16". As for the Red dot, I figured it would help my accuracy more than a scope. I know paintbals don't go it a straight trajectory, I just figured it would help me ballpark where my shot was going my than eyeballing it.

If you play mostly woodsball maybe look into the camo 98. Its what I have- plus if u get camo now u wont need to paint it urself later(if u wanted it camo) J&J ceramic 16" is good- 14" is better just dont go over 16" the timer grip sounds good. Red dot sight sounds good.

Ok, thanks. The big debate overit right now seems tobe the barrel length. I'm starting to see taht it is only a matter or preferance between the 14" and the 16". I think I'm going to try them both out and see what suits me better before I buy the barrel.

No red dot, get Dye Sticky grips not ER grips the timer doesnt work and they dont feel as good or look as good.

or get a custom pro and all problems are solved because it comes with an awesome barrel along with a drop forward and a double trigger with polished internals. It also comes with a tougher finish, which is great for woodsball. It is also an be bought with the e-grip which works awesome, trust me(VVVsigVVV). After all that and if you are a tough woodsballer which goes through dirt and such, go get a rocket cock II.

Custom Pro $160 at http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=3571 - http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item= 3571

Custom Pro w/ e-grip $240 at http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=3574 - http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item= 3574

rocket cock II $14 at http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=3008 - http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item= 3008

For mostly woodsball I think this will work pretty well. I agree with one of the other recomendations of getting the Sticky grip. It is more comfortable but the draw back is that it has to slid off the frame every time you open the marker. Maybe you will have few problems but I pull mine apart all the time from fixing problems to cleaning broken paint out of the action. You might take a look at the Stone Cold II barrel. No reason for the double trigger  without the E-Bolt or E-Grip.

Oh, the Red Dot sight is a good idea. Best deal I have found is from Cabalas. They have the BSA Red Dot for 22 rifles and pellet guns, for only $19. Been using one on my marker for a year. Good battery life...if you remember to turn it off after a days paintballing.

Ok, the main reason I was gettin the timer grip was b/c it came free with my gun.

About upgrading to the pro, One of my friends recently bought one and even though he likes it very well, from what i hear I think I'm going to just buy the 98c. While it does come with an improved barrel, I think i still would end up buying an aftermarket one, which kinda defeats the purpose. Also, i don't think a drop foward would be neccissary for me, and I'm fine with a  single trigger as well.

I think the only real thing I'm debating on right now is my barrel. I'm looking to spend around $35 on one, and I can't decide weather to get a 14" J&J Cermaic or a 14" Spart Parts Teardrop. I want a cheap one (obviously), but I don't want to sacrifice quality. I want an accurate, quiet barrel that is easy to clean, rarely chops and will work just fine with cheaper paint. Any suggestions?

ehh i dont think you should get a red dot sight, there kind of
useless, or the ex rage timer grip, there a big bulky item that
doesnt fit, and its useless...but j&j ceramics barrel is an
awesome barrl for you!

if u have alot of money to spend try a flatline for woodsball, it will give u the extra distance

but if u get the flatline don't get the red dot it will barely be accurate
