Show them how safe the sport is. Search around for injury statistics, paintball is safer than golf.

In the May 2005 issue of Action Pursuit Games there is an article on How to Get Your Parents to Say "Yes!"

I would post it but dont want to get in trouble for it.

I never had problems with my parents. I was saving up for my 98 Custom and i told my mom that I was going to buy a paintball gun. She didn't care. All she said was be careful.

Get off your lazy butt, do some dishes, mow the lawn, something, anything besides Playstation.

Help your Mom, Help your Dad. Show you appreciate what they do for your welfare.

You will be surprised, after a month or two their attitude will change.

When you have to "think about" mowing the lawn, then your parents have to "think about" getting you a marker.

Do you understand how that works?

I am a parent, ya know that my 5 year old has his own paintball marker. Ya know why, the sport interests me. It stays locked up with my markers and guns, I have tought him the saftey of all guns.  He knows it his and as long as I am with him he can shoot anytime he wants. Be responsible and most of all try to get them involved, get a dvd show them what it's all about. It's a positive way to spend your time and money. It beats hangin out and gettin in trouble with drugs or the law, and it will get you some exercise and get you away from that damn X-Box ( my son and I have one of these too). Don't give up keep trying to show them how much it means to you, they will see it from your eyes. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Well your off to a good start by calling your paintball gun a "marker" Just dont nag them. They will decide when they want to.

Maybee drag your parents down to your local park and have them play a few games. If you have really strict refs then you will have a good chance of playing.

take them paintballing, make them talk to a ref/store owner/field owner.  they will realize how safe it is.

To the guy with the 5 year old son:  that's a great idea to interest them into starting young.  i wish i would have started a little younger.  paintball helped build up my confidence and my teamwork and leadership.

Thats a problem with many parents of people looking to get into the sport. Most parents are either

A) afraid its dangerous
B) afraid your going to grow up being a murderer because you played paintball

If its the safety you're worreid about, show them how safe it is.

If its the whole murderer gun thing, stop calling it a gun and use marker.

I'll be your paintball friend.  Can't give u a ride; wayyyy too far away.  As for parents.  I kinda handled mine differently.  I would constantly drop jokes/mention that I intended to buy one to my mom (who is extremely over-protective).  Because I knew she didn't like the idea of "guns, guns" I would constantly reassure her that I would be responsible about safety such as explain to her about goggles, safety measures concerning the handling of the CO2 tank, and so forth.  Finally I went out and bought it (with the devious help of a cousin) and brought it home.  I broke the news to her VERY carefully.  The only reason she started yelling and got seriously angry and yelled at me was because I spent $300 on a marker (I bought the A-5 a few  months after it came out).

Basically show your parents ur responsible about safety, that'll really really help out.  Plus, if you're decent at math, figure out how much money you'd be saving if you bought yourself a marker instead of rented; and show that you're serious about making this a hobby (if you aren't, parents tend to frown when you spend over $100 on a one-time thing).

Actually, I have this thing going with my parent that if I act like an adult I'm treated like one (not breaking ny laws though) and it's been that way SINCE I got my marker she said if I did anything she isn't paying fines or buying a new marker if I get it taken. First day I shot someones house on accident... but he was cool about it I helped him remove the dent from his raingutter and ipe off the paint and then in turn he didn't tell my mom.

Anyways, tell your mom that you'll take full responsibility and that you will be careful, and will not hurt anyone, get hurt, or damage any property. You must get them to trust you and believe that you know what you're doing.
